The organizaiton is made up of a network of volunteers who come together to work for social change. Founded in January 2004 by a small group of young adults from Callao, a city on the outskirts of Lima, IdukayPeru now has an extended volunteer base which includes many of its programs' beneficiaries as well as several international volunteers who have visited the organization. Much of its work is completed in conjunction with community leaders and school officials from the areas in which it works. IdukayPEru works chiefly in the newly formed squatter settlements ("pueblos jóvenes") along the outskirts of Lima, teaching classes, organizing recreational activities and trips for the children, and distributing food, clothing and other necessities periodically to those most in need. The group also aims to provide a support network and a safe space for those who need it, and particularly for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

These children are enjoying books donated by an international volunteer. The recently constructed school in their community currently has no library and so books for these children are a rare luxury for these children. |
