We are on the road in the desert coming back from Vegas. There's nothing like Vegas and there's nothing like Vegas on Halloween. To add another dimension to that thought there's nothing like taking your kids to Vegas on Halloween.
We took the girls to las Vegas to see Americas got talent live. It was very inspiring. We saw landau Eugene Murphy jr, anna graceman, silhouettes, pop lyfe, Landon swank (Matthew said I have to mention Landon swank's fiancé harmony). Veronica and Paige were perfectly blown away. We are going to have to reboot their brains before school starts on Monday. They finally went to their first concert.
We left Thursday night after Veronica finished basketball training. We said good ye to Vader and we were on the road at around 10:00 pm.the girls fell asleep and I talked (mostly about nonsense) to keep Matthew awake. We drove over the new dam road. They made it so you can't see anything. Maybe they could have put a strip of glass so we could see how cool it is. 10 years ago we could have said it would weaken the structure, but now they have people standing on glass over the grand canyon.
We got into our hotel room around 4:00 am. It was beautiful. It had a sitting area w a pull out bed, an office area and a king size bed. It was a sweet little suite. We put out the do not disturb sign, closed the dark curtains (only Vegas has those curtains that block light like winter in AK) and slept until Paige woke us up to tell us it was tomorrow. She woke up first and stared out the window at the city she had never seen before until she couldn't stand it any more. We left to look for the mcdonalds we saw in the hotel window, but we must have gone the wrong way. Somehow we found the only road in America that didn't have a mcdonalds on it. We drove around until finally we parked at ceasars palace and ate at the cheesecake factory (you can eat cheesecake but you can't eat cake cheese). By the way, the cheesecake factory has the most fabulous cheesecake. Who would have thought. Then we watched the statues fight with fire and water and looked at the fish and stingrays in the tank. There is a h&m store where the fao Schwartz store used to be. That was a huge disappointment except there was a real live dj there. We watched him mix for awhile. He was super cool. I would still take fao schwartz over h&m. I went into the coach store to price my perfume and I found a purse. Again, who would have thought. We left, however five hours later we left that same store with the purse and no perfume. we took the girls outside to walk on the strip. We got to the Bellagio fountain just as it was starting. It was beautiful and overwhelming and larger than life. I felt like the oceans eleven crew. We walked past the Eiffel tower and got Eiffel tower margaritas. I thought I was set for the day with my happy-making margarita but four hours later the bouncers at the concert made me throw it away. We chased a real life hello kitty who was walking around. We wanted to take a picture with her but she disappeared. We took the escalator up so we could cross las Vegas blvd and took the escalator down. We landed in front of a restaurant called serendipity 3. They had hello kitty toys at the hostess area and $88 sundaes. We opted for pizza and a sundae better priced for our family. I told the waiter you just can't not finish $88 ice cream. We ended up back inside ceasars palace standing in the coach store, buying the purse. The whole time we paid for the most beautiful purse in the world, my mind was on the man and his dog sitting outside, wondering if they were going to sleep there right where I saw them.
Then we went to the concert hall where they gave us ear plugs and booster seats for Veronica and Paige. AGT was inspiring and beautiful and hopeful. I cried through a lot of the parts. Jerry springer was more funny than I expected. For the past 20 years watching his show, I never imagined I would be a part of an audience screaming "Jerry Jerry". He surprised me with his range of emotion. He cried after the silhouettes danced to "America the beautiful". Everyone did.
We walked out of the concert hall into ceasars palace at 10:30 pm, right smack into las Vegas on a Friday night on Halloween weekend. Everybody was dressed in costumes. The whole strip was the biggest costume party I've ever seen. One group had probably 15 banana costumes walking w one monkey costume. We picked up our car at the valet and drove past probably 3 mcdonalds on the short way back to our hotel. We changed out of our very smoky clothes and went to sleep.
