Sectionals at Rushville

It was not to bad of a day to run, the course was a little muddy in spots.  Overall the girls had a pretty good race.  5 of the 7 girls had pr's in the race.  We needed every bit of their best to get through.  Havana was right with us almost all the way.  In the end we only got by them by 5 points.  Emily Martin headed up the team with a 10th place finish, Selena Bradshaw twisted her ankle and got 16th, Julie Laugel 29, Alix Rawlins 30, Mary Leamon 34,  Sabrina Kelsey 35 and Shyan Kreoger 39.

The boys ended their season with a 4th place team finish.  Jesse Thompson advanced to the state meet as an individual with a 12th place finish.  Austyn Jacobs followed in 25, Colin Caggiano 34, Cody Green 36, Jacob McKinley 38, Cole Allen 46 and Willie Green 47.

Delavan Invite

It was a good cross country running day.  Cool but not freezing.  Cold for the fans.  Both teams were in the upper half of the teams race.  The boys were 8th out of 25 and the girls were 10th out of 25.  The best improvement goes to Jesse Thompson who finished 8th overall.  He caught a lot of the runners that beat him at the previous invites.  Austyn Jacobs followed in 44, Colin Caggiano 69, Jacob McKinley 71, Cody Green 82, Cole Allen 90 and Dalton Griffin 123 out of 170 runners.

The girls raceHad our girls running better.  Selena finished in 20th, Emily Martin 28, Alix Rawlins 62, Sabrina Kelsey 85, Julie Laugel 86, Mary Leamon 94 and Shyan Kreoger 130 out of 166 runners.

The open boys race had Willie Green receiving a medal in 18th place.  Cody Thompason had his best run of the year in 29th, William Hamby also had a best time in 58, Steve Hilgers 118, Rylie Entwistle 147 out of 157 runners.

The girls open race had Grace Murnan throwing a shoe and still finishing the race in 59th, Couri Jacobs 62, Emily Entwistle 68, Lorena Leinweber 102, Dakota Schmeiderer 110, Madison Damm 149, Ayden Thomas 152, Mariah Hill 174 and Brinna Ebkin 180 out of 187 runners.

Its been a fine year for the runners that ended their year today.  A lot of them are going on into the Jr. Olympics cross country season starting Monday.  They have really worked hard to learn how to run long distance races.

I am so happy with the way the season ended up.  I was really becoming stressed with the start.  The main factor was the move to Mason City and having to fight for space to practice.  Finally got the space than the small amount of athletes that showed up, especially the younger classes.  Lots of able bodied athletes that are already starting to specialize in one or two sports.  Can't be good at a young age.  I like to see all around athletes,  that way their whole bodies get worked on instead of just a few muscle groups.  The best one is the brain for self confidence and being an individual.  Nothing is greater than knowing that it is you against yourself with no help from anyone else and you are able to win and be better than you were yesterday.  That is a challenge that alot of parents don't like to see their kids in because there is no one to blame for the loss other than their own child.  I hear the excuses from the parents of lots of kids on my teams, I just wish they would just except them for their talents today and be happy that they are trying to get better.  I have very few instant athletes, the ones I end up with, hard work has always passed them in the long run.  Most of the athletles that you have just read about are not all hard workers.  A part are just talented enough to get by.  Some of the others that are here are sometimes hard workers and want something for their efforts and have come up short.  They decided to late to really give it that all out hard work.  Now on the other hand,  I am sure you can tell the ones that decided at the start of the season that there was something that they wanted and acheived it. Some just didn't have what it took on that day and other athletes were just plain better on that day.  I as a coach will take each and everyone of them as they are because without them I wouldn't have a team. It takes all kinds to make the world go around and everyone isn't the same.It would be boring to only coach the good ones!!!!!!!!!
