Maria Cristina Falls as a Tourist Spot
Of approximately 23 waterfalls found in Iligan City, Maria Cristina Falls is considered as the most admired because of its alluring twin cascades. It is the most famous waterfall in the entire Mindanao and it is the second highest falls found in the Philippines. It plunges down to 320 feet into a pool where rocks surround. These rocks were said to be the horrible magical war boat of Prince Bantogen, hero of the Maranao-Maguindanao epic “Darangen" .
Despite the fact that about 90% of its water is utilized for the hydropower plant, its cascades are still glorious and splendid which captivates both local and foreign tourists. It is also tagged as a now-you-see-now-you-don’t falls because of the manmade controls performed by the National Power Corporation which is essential for producing electricity. However, its presence indicates a healthy environment throughout the city. The music of the flowing water is healing to the tourists. Blocked or plunging voluminously or controlled vertically into the pool, Maria Cristina Falls retains as mesmerizing as it is which is worth for the tourists travel.
Maria Cristina Falls is equally fascinating as the immaculate features of the natural world wonders like Venezuela’s Angel Falls, the world’s highest at 3,230 feet; the Victoria Falls, the world’s largest, found on the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe; and the Niagara Falls, the most voluminous in North America.
