I do other things other than keep a salt tank. In fact, the marine tank is my newest interest. I also keep birds- wich at first was something of a hobby, but now it is a part of daily life. It dosen't quite seem like the diversion hobbies are usually supposed to be. I have 3 canaries, all males and they sing almost non stop. One is a Roller canary- known for singing with a closed beak and the other two are American Singers i believe. They are not show quality birds, but they sing well enough for me. The Roller is my first and he is a typical brilliant yellow bird and i call him Citrus. Since he sings with his beak closed, his melody is slightly muted and has an almost haunting tone to it. He rarely hits a note so high it becomes piercing. The two American Singers have a higher volume sound and the range of high to low is greater, they trill, they twitter they warble. Tundra is my second canary, he is one of the AS, his color is slate gray and he has a funny habbit of breaking into song around 2:00 in the morning, while asleep with his head still tucked under his wing. Barron is the other AS. He is a brilliant red-orange (at least when i remember to consistently feed him his color enhancing vitamins), a red factor. This guy sings all the time. His cage has to be covered with a blanket to let him know its time to take a breather and even then it only works for so long. He will also eat everything. In a way he is my training bird. If there is some veggie i am trying to treat my birds with and they don't dare try it yet, i just give some to Barron and set his cage beside the one who dosen't want any so it can watch Barron chow on it, and pretty soon they are both eating their treat.
I'd have pics up but they are going through their molt and really don't look their best...like they've been through a windstorm.LOL
I also own (am owned by) a female Green Cheeked Conure that i named Nomar. She's a little terror- gentle but definately bossy! She's quite attached to my 4-year-old daughter.
I also have a pair of cockatiels and a land hermit crab i've had for 3 years now.
My new house has just enough space for me to start digging into gardening. I've been in an apartment for the last 6 years and have been trying to get my planting desires exorcised by growing houseplants, but now i can get outside. I just got some pics for the Misc.Photos section.
