On Sunday 22nd November the band got up and on the coach by 6am to travel down to Leamington Spa for the West Midlands contest. This was the first time the band had entered the own choice test piece contest.
The band had choosen to play The Dark Side of the Moon again which had got them a 2nd place at the Buxton contest in May. With 8 bands in the section the band were drawn to play number 4 and produced a solid perfromance that the band can be happy about.
When the results were given out the band had came 2nd which is a fantastic result again for the band and its hard work it has done this year.
Commenting on the result Ian K said "this is another fantastic result for the band, we have now done 6 contests this year and have had four 2nd places, one 4th place and one 5th place. Also the band have worked really hard in the last 14 months to achieve these results and also have produced 3 cds in this time which is very hard to do as well. We now have christmas and will be working hard on Roman Triptych the test piece for Butlins contest in January where the band have come away with a 3rd and a 2nd in the last 2 years. The Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band on Sunday 27th September made the short journey to the centre of the Peak District to perform in
Playing a mixture of traditional brass band tunes and modern entertainment numbers, the band received numerous positive comments from members of the public who stopped to listen to the bands performance.
Band Chairman Graham Weighill commented events like this can only help to promote the image of brass bands, the quality of entertainment they provide and hopefully encourage more people to become involved in the brass band movement.
As well as a busy concert and contest schedule over the coming weeks, the band are preparing to host and perform in a charity concert titled ‘Brass N Sax with a Little Voice’. This is the second year the band has held this event and it is hoping to beat the £3000 raised last year for the nominated charities.
This year’s event will be held at the Speedwell Rooms Staveley on Saturday 17th October, and will also feature entertainment from Southside Jazz and The Chesterfield Male Voice Choir. All monies raised at the concert will be shared between, The Anthony Nolan Trust, Leukaemia Research and the Ashgate Hospice.
For more details on the event please visit the bands website, www.freewebs.com/iccbb, or contact the Band Chairman on 0784 695 8778.
On the 11th July Kat Pannett (Shaw) gave birth to a baby girl called Amy Pannett. Both Mum and daughter are doing well and from all the band we hope to see them both in the band room soon.
Well the summer season is now over for the band. And the band now is taking a well deserved summer break.
In the last 2 months the band has recorded 2 CDs, one with Chesterfield Male Voice choir and a Christmas CD which was just the band. Both CD’s will be on sale from the 6th September at Queens Park but if you would like to order your CD now then please contact us on the contacts page.
We also have performed at the St Antonio parade in Nottingham and The Winterton Show near Scunthorpe. Where at both events we had mixed weather with heavy rain in Nottingham and Bright Sunshine in Winterton. And we also held a band raffle where we raised nearly £400 pounds for band funds.
We have also purchased a new Baritone for one of our longest serving members Bev Smith this is by selling some of our older instruments, which have gone to good homes and will be used rather than collecting dust in our back room. And we also have a number of other instruments that we are looking to sell to purchase new instruments if you would like to find out what we have then please contact us.
Over the last 2 months the training band has started to join the main band for practises on a Friday night to help development them and we are always looking for new players for the training band. So if you are interested in learning a brass instrument then please contact us. We have a full set of instruments for the training band which we would like to be used and not collecting dust in the back room.
After the summer break the band has a busy September with concerts in Queens Park, Matlock Bath and Bakewell. We also have a contest in October and a contest in November to be preparing for. And our Charity concert Brass n Sax and a little voice on the 17th October in the Speedwell rooms Staveley which features the band, South Side Jazz and Chesterfield Male Voice Choir. If you would like tickets for this great concert then please contact us.
And Finally on Saturday 11th July Richard (Majestic) Keighley got married to Ann-Marie Crookes in Leeds. We would like to wish Richard and Ann-Marie all the best for the future.
Sadly due to 2 bands withdrawing from the contest we have had to cancel the Battle of the Bands contest. We hope to be holding this next year.
After 4 months of working hard on 3 test pieces the band now are focusing on their next project which is the CD recording with the Chesterfield Male Voice Choir. This will be taking place on the 13th June in Mansfield the day before the band holds its Battle of the bands contest on Staveley. The CD will be on sale soon after the recording so if you would like to preorder a copy then please contact us.
As well as the CD recording the band are preparing to hold its Battle of the band contest in Staveley on Sunday 14th June in the Speedwell rooms the contest will be starting at around 11am but times yet to be confirmed if you would like to know more please contact the band.
So it is going to be a busy but productive Summer with also another possible CD recording late in July
If you would like to come and see the band then look at our future jobs pages
After just missing out of a top 3 finish at the Area the band entered the Buxton contest. The band gave a fantastic performance of The Dark Side of the Moon which saw the band gain its third 2nd prize of the year out of four contests.

It was also noted that us and Bildworth were the only 2 local bands in our section out of 9 which was a shame. And finally the band performed at the Hasland Gala to a very large audience and a very enjoyable afternoon.
As with many bands at this time of year, we had to ask some deps to step in to cover players who have had other commitments on . So we would like to thank the deps for helping us out.
Back the Campaign!
ICCB’s Solo Trombone player Carrie Sudbury’s Brother Adrian Sudbury, 26, is dying from Leukaemia. But he has one last little mission before he shuffles off.
He wants the Government to change the Curriculum so that every 17 to 18 years old is educated about Blood, Bone marrow and Organ donation.
If you think this is a good idea, please sign the online Downing Street Petition.

On a snowy Sunday morning the band traveled up the M1 to Cleakheaton and the Whitcliffe Mount School for the Pogson Bray Contest. Once again it was another enjoyable day.
The band performed Lydian Pictures for the test piece section and St Francis for the Hymn tune. In a section where it was 3rd and 4th Section bands against each other the band came 2nd in the Hymn tune and 5th in the test piece. But they did pick up the prize for the highest placed fourth section band not in the prizes (There was a bit of confusion at the results as this award went to Lithwaite but later it has been confirmed that Ireland are the true winners of this award). We would like to thank the committee of the contest for their warm welcome and how helpful they have been. Also to Emley Brass Band for the loan of the timps for the contest as it saved us transporting them up the M1.
Well done to the band as we have now been awarded £700 pounds worth of prize money so far this year and it has been a real team effort and yesterday we had no need to use any borrowed players as many other bands had in the section.

Here are the results

Jenny has been with the band for a year after playing with Old Silkstone for a few years. She feels it is best to move on due to work commitments which have been affecting her commitment to the band over the last months. We would like to thank Jenny for her hard work and helping the band move forward. Also being part of the bands great result at the Butlins contest in January.

James Lapworth has decided he needs time away from the band as work and other social events have effected his commitment to the band. And he feels he would be letting the band down if he could not give 100% to the team.

Also to play some good music but with a few players short on the basses and Trombones we knew that we were not going to win any prizes.
But where in the country can young players in the 4th Section say that they have been on to a contest stage behind the likes of Black Dyke, Brighouse and Fodens.... No where apart from the Whit Marches.
We had a great night and with the great map reading of Ian (not Mel) we managed a total of 7 march contests at Friezland, Uppermill, Dobcross, Delph, Denshaw, Scoutshead and Lydgate.
The results are coming in as we speak and will be posted soon. But if we came first or last it doesn't matter as we went to be part of it.
