Our local mission is to...

• Support women who want to have VBACs, or are grieving a traumatic birth or cesarean.
• Educate the public about the safety of VBACs and natural birth.

Did you know that Vaginal Birth After Cesarean is becoming very hard for women to achieve in Northern Michigan? There are "VBAC bans" at several hospitals in Northern Michigan. VBAC risks are comparable to the risks of Elective Repeat Cesarean delivery, and ICAN believes that it should be up to the mother to decide how she wants to birth. The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc., (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).
