War Child Canada is dedicated to helping the children of war.

Why War Child Canada?

War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected children around the world. Working closely with the music industry, War Child Canada helps generate awareness, support and advocacy for children's rights everywhere. It is our hope that as ambassadors of the BMIFC and of Barry himself, that we will spread the hope that all nations live together peaceably for our world and for the children.

Who is War Child Canada?

Founded in 1999, War Child Canada is an independent charitable organisation working across North America and around the world to assist children affected by war and to raise awareness for children's rights everywhere. War Child Canada is working to help thousands whose lives have been torn apart by war.

How are musicians affiliated with War Child Canada?

One of War Child Canada's earliest successes was the War Child Canada Benefit Concert in Winnipeg in 2000. This concert, featuring the Tragically Hip and Chantal Kreviazuk, was the biggest benefit concert in Winnipeg's history, attracting crowds of over 80,000 on the margins of the Canadian-government sponsored Conference on War-Affected Children.

How will War Child Canada use our donations?

War Child Canada projects are chosen and designed based on current humanitarian needs of children affected by war and by War Child Canada's capacity to address those needs. The charity places emphasis on intimate consultation and collaboration with local partners in the regions we work in so as to identify the most urgent needs and effective methods of delivering assistance. The charity focuses on the domains of relief supply and delivery, health care, education, rehabilitation and psychosocial support.

The six year old child threw himself down and huddled with his hands covering his head, sobbing inconsolably, completely terror stricken, the bombs were overhead and the guns were firing without ceasing.  His 18 year old cousin gathered him in her arms, trying to comfort and mend his damaged soul.

He was no longer in his war torn country. He was in Canada, we were having our Canada Day fireworks. We all left feeling as though we had been there with him, we will never forget the sight of another casualty of war!  Only 6 years old a child who witnessed 10 family members including his father a Doctor, being shot and killed, then thrown into mass graves!

I would like to dedicate the charity we have chosen to the Popaj family that changed my life by allowing me to be a part of theirs! They opened new doors for me, with their kindness, love and friendship! My life has never been the same!  Thankyou for teaching me about a love that goes way beyond understanding!  I learned through you that there are commonalities that go way beyond language!  You taught me the language of the heart! Sharing your lives with me has been a gift I never knew existed.   Thankyou my friends for all you have given, for sharing all that you have lost, for teaching me I can no longer sit back! You are all the ultimate in the word survivor.
