Dr. Alexx Woods

Alexx Woods is one of Miami-Dade's best Medical Examiners, and regularly works with Caine's team of CSIs on their investigations.
Woods studied for an MD, but whilst on residency she read a patient's chart and noticed a doctor's mistake, having been reprimanded before about correcting her superiors she kept quiet, assuring herself that the doctor knew what he was doing. Instead, the patient died and the doctor made sure that Alexx took the blame. She still managed to pass her degree, but doubt is a powerful thing, and Woods found her confidence ebbing away. After graduation a newly married Woods took a part-time job with the New York Coroner's Office, and found that the job suited her perfectly. She could bring a sense of dignity back to the victims that ended up on her table and become their final voice.
Soon afterwards Miami-Dade made her the offer of becoming the Head of their new, state-of-the-art facility, and with some trepidation Woods took the job. Her personal manner in dealing with the dead unnerved some of the technicians at first, but as Horatio said she could talk to the dead all she liked, as long as they didn't answer back.
Initially throughout the first season Alexx was more of a medical point of reference but has become rather more of a mother figure for the team. And has become somewhat of a confidente for the very reserved Horatio. She was particularly close to Tim Speedle, and his death greatly affected her. She found it difficult at first to accept Ryan, Speedle's replacement, but his thorough methods soon won her over.
She is fiercly protective of her family, and became a suspect in the attack on a paedophile who lived in her neighbourhood. And what with being kidnapped, nearly blown up and trapped in out-of-control fires in the Everglades on more than one occasion, the life of a coroner in Miami-Dade is certainly never dull!
