updates on the simsville racing and the block

Track Profiles

This page is all about the three tracks that our club race on.  These are simple tracks made by a group of individuals.  The following tracks are not official, and they wont be ever.

Simmsville

The Simmsville raceway is the longest raceway of the three tracks we race on.  The track is about 125 metres long and is located in a paddock in Sprent.  The track was converted from a motorbik course to one which takes 1/8th scale off road buggies.  Battery powered vehicles can alos be driven around.  The track is mostly dirt, with a few patches of grass.  This can lead to puddles in the wet, but is otherwise a very good surface.

Layout

The track has a few turns, a few straights and two or three jumps.  Here's the layout in more detail.

The first turn is a berm.  The berm is about one metre high and goes for about twenty metres.  After the berm, there is a tabletop.  The jump can be landed square if careful aplication of the throttle is used.  Now the rest of the track i am not sure about because it has been changed since I used it last, but there was a big, constant radius corner.  This was surrounded by 44 galon drums.  Afterwards there was a smaller jump.  The next corner was scattered with grass, and gave good grip.  It is a 180-degree turn directly after the jump.  (For a proper description of the track go to www.svrcs.i8.com).  Next was another 180-degrees tur the other way.  This was followed by the longest straight on the track, then a slight left-hand turn, then back into the berm.  The straight is very bumpy and tends to unsettle the car as you are going down at top speed.  Pictures are below.

The above pictures are courtesy of www.svrcs.i8.com.  The birds-eye view is of the new track, and is not the layout I described.

The Block

The block is situated on a block of land (hence the name).  The area of the land is very small, so the layout is therefore very small and tight.  This track has been described as a setup and a drivers track, not a power track.  this can come in handy when racing against people who have lots of money to spend on RC cars, as they usually have bigger, more powerfull engines.

The block gets very muddy when the weather gets bad.  A drain from a next-door neighbours house drains excess water into the racetrack, making it very muddy on the way out of turn 4.  By the way, the track is in Ridgley.  Details as follows:

Turn 1:  This turn is the trickiest turn on the whole course (I believe).  The corner is directly after a long straight, and requires heavy aplication of the brakes, or taking off the throtle.  The track is surrounded by black pipe with tyres around the edges so the cars can't get air and go onto the road.

Turn 2:  The next turn is after a jump that I am yet to make.  This turn is a small right handed, right angled turn.  Pretty simple, no too tough

Turn 3:  Another tricky turn, turn three is partly flooded because of the drain.  This turn is 180 degrees and is very hard to get round fast.  This corner could be one of the most essential corners to get right, as barely anyone else can.

Turn 4:  Flooded is the only word to describe this corner.  The same as turn 2, but turning left, this corner is all mud.  The Hypers look pretty specy going out through the mud.  Pretty simple, not too tough.

Turn 5 & 6:  Turn five is a 90 degree left hand corner.  This is followed by the most important corner on the track.  180 degrees is the turn radius, and this corner is also partly flooded.  This is the widest part of the track which is a good thing for the run onto the straight.

Turn 7:  A slight right-hander onto the straight, this corner can be taken flat out IF you get the line right.

At the moment there are no pictures of the track, but I might be able to get some soon.  Stay tuned.

Marcus's Track (Paddock Boy)

This track is currently unavailable to race on, seeing as it is buggered.  This was the original track of the three, and was used many times.  We hope to fix this track and bring a new profile.  Paddock Boy is situated in a small fenced off area of a paddock.  The paddock has sheep in it sometimes.  This layout is also in Sprent.

Profile:

From what I remember, this track goes something like this:

Turn 1:  This turn was directly after a biggish jump.  You could go round the jump, and this was quicker and less dangerous.  This turn is 90 degrees and is one of the only mud turns on the course.

Turn 2:  Turn 2 is very hard as the track space available was very small.  The turn had a small pole on the apex.  This turn was preceded by a small jump that could also be bypassed if you went to either side.

Turn 3:  This turn is fairly simple, slow and 90 degrees.  This can be taken flat, but you have to get a really good line.

Turn 4:  Turn 4 was recently bermed (had a berm put in).  This turn is 90 degrees to the left, and is slightly bumpy which can unsettle the car.

Turn 5:  After a small straight (grass), there is a 180 degree turn.  This turn is all grass and can cause the more powerful cars to traction roll.  This is followed by a small straight (the longest one on the track), then back into Turn 1.

As with the block, no pictures are yet available.  This track is small and tight and is surrounded by a hedge of blackberries, which stop the cars as soon as they get into it.

These three tracks are pretty good to race on.  There are barely any surface changes.  Simmsville has the potential to change heaps, and to become a great track.  The other two need some work, but they'll be right.  I'll update when I get more news.
