updates on the simsville racing and the block

Setup Guides

This section is obviously about the setup for Hyper 7's.  This isn't a setup guide for any track, though there is some setup for the two tracks, Simmsville and the Block.  There is also what you can adjust on the Hypers to make them have better setup.

WHAT CAN I ADJUST?

There are a lot of things that can be adjusted on the Hyper 7.

  • All the tops of the suspension can be adjusted to get different ride heights and steering settings.
  • The rear wing can be adjusted to give the car more or less stability while travelling fast or when in the air.
  • The front tie rods (rods that look like long screws) can be adjusted to give on or two wheels a straighter alignment to the rear wheels.  This can have the adverse affect of too little steering or too much, though can be handy if the remote is screwed the whole way round one way.
  • The suspension can have spacers put in or taken out to stiffen or loosen the suspension.
  • The front can have a torsion bar put in to help the handling and steering.
  • The brakes can be adjusted to give the car more stopping power.

All these adjustments can be benificial to your cars handling.  However, this can have an adverse affect.  If the adjustment is taken too far, the car can handle worse.  All of the above metioned adjustments should be performed when you have a free day at wherever you race.  Otherwise, you can get it worng, and be slower.

The Hyper 7 is a great car to drive, but can be made better with upgrades.  Bigger engines, Tuned Pipes, lighter wheels and carbon fibre undertrays can all be purchased from most good RC or hobby shops.

SETUP FOR THE TRACKS WE RACE AT

The tracks we race at require a completely different setup to each other.  Simmsville is a wide, flowing tack, whereas the Block is tight and twisty.  We have yet to try different setups for the Block, though Waylon has been testing on Simmsville, so I'll have to get hold of him and see what works best.

THE BLOCK

At the moment, the only setup I have tried is moving the two front suspension to the bottom holes.  The wing has stayed flat as there are no real jumps, though I have run the same settings at Simmsville and they seeem to work okay.  I have stock standard wheels and treads, and an aliminium steering servo.  We plan to get a good setup guide when we all come down and get a timing system set up.

SIMMSVILLE

As I have previously mentioned, only Waylon has any real setup (I think) for this track.  The above mentioned settings (suspension in the bottommost hole and a stock setup wing) seem to work okay.  However, as I have tried nothing else, this is probably hopeless.  I'll keep you updated on any new setups when I get hold of them.

Setup, my first try

Check this out, just a simple setup sheet I did on word.  I'd only recommend this for a beginer, it's pretty basic.  This took an unbelievable amount of effort to put this here, so appreciate it.  (This looks heaps better in word, it didnt work out too well here.
