We have run the second proper race day at Simsville, and it wasn't a brilliant day (especially me, read below). It was bloody windy, but other than that it was nice and warm and the Sims's did a great job of keeping the dust down really well, they watered the track down heaps. Alright, lets get into the racing.
We expected a big field, but we still got some. There were about 10 people down at Simsville on a very windy Saturday afternoon in Sprent. We had about 7 buggies, about 5 of which where Hyper 7's and the other two were Kyoshos. There was 1 more buggy there, a REX PRO, but that had problems very early in the day and was forced to sit out all the races. 2 monster trucks also putted down to sprent, along with a Losi electic thing (Harley) and Jobes Stadium Truck, tried to make the day interesting.
The first race was the buggies and what a race this was not. There were problems with the starts (me included) and the racing was okish, but it wasn't brilliant. We were supposed to have 3 races, but because the day was so in-organised, we were forced to only have 2. The second race saw all the buggies putting round for about 5 minutes before we were all lined up and ready to go. I got the jump off the line and led for about 3 laps, as the others behind me kept tripping over each other, and even themselves. Then, my race was cut short as I ran out of fuel leading the race. had we started a minute earlier, I could have won, but shit happens.
The electrics, well I didn't watch the electrics. Harley won, even though he had blown his brushless up, and had to use a v brush. Harley was impressed though, as this v brush had heaps of power, almost as much as his brushless. Jahoba had his brushless, in his stadium truck, which ment Jobe kept doing donuts, because he can. That's basically it.
The monster trucks didn't reallly race. One stopped completely before it had started and the othere putted aroun a bit putting on a crowd-pleasing act. It was good to see this big thing land, it did it so well.
So that was basically the story for the day. We all had to pay $5 entry fee, which the first and second place drivers took a share of the total prize money for the class. Simon won $20 for his efforts in the Nitro buggy class, and I think Harley might have got $10 for his in electric. Third place in each class got a dvd of some rc cars, which goes for about three hours. Walon won one of those, Jobe pinched one and gave it to me because he can.
Now, we move on to my shitty weekend. I basically was tricked at every turn, by my own Hyper. I started off the day brilliantly, the engine kept cool, nothing broke, and I thought I was pretty quick. Then, the first race came round, and I was looking foward to it. Go GO GO. I stall. So does Adrian, so I run to get mine, then restart it. GO GO GO again. Again I stall, but the race has started this time. That's the first race gone. The next race rolls around and it won't start. It got a gutfull of dirt, the airfilter came off in a roll and I thought that might be the problem. But wait, it magically fixes itself and I am able to start the 2nd and final race. GO GO GO. Haha, I've tricked the god-damned thing and leaned the low speed needle off. I get a flyer and lead for a few laps, then you hear that bloody sound. Air getting in with the fuel. That's my day done.
Other people had problems too. We had tried to work out the frewuencies before hand, on this site: http://nwrcc.3.forumer.com . However, Phillip Clarke turned up with the same frequency as Pink Panter (sorry I don't know your real name) and that was that. Phil's fell apart, so Pink Panther was able to get a few laps in. Marcus's car's clutch locked up at the start of the final, forcing him out. Waylon has never glued his tyres on, so guess what happened?? There was others, which included the bullet proof Simon's Inferno, which had tunig problems. OOOOOOHHHHH, not so bullet proof now are ya??
So, better luck next time. Without the wind, it would have been a great day, but we can't change the past. Bye for now.
It has finally happened. Waylon has finally got round to fixing up simmsville and we held our first race meeting. Actually, it wasn't really proper, just a few people (about eight racers and a few spectators turned up) but i think we all had fun.
The day was plagued by bad luck and mechanical problems for most of the drivers involved. The last race of the day, which was the petrol final, was delayed by about and hour as Marcus and Waylon both had mechanical problems to fix. I think then that they both didn't get to race in the end!!
The electric class was dominated by Harley Aitken and his Losi (I think it is). He beat Jason White and Jahoba Sims by considerable margins in all of the three races.
The petrol class (or open, meaning anything could go in it) was the class to watch all day except when the electrics were on. As I have mentioned before, Marcus and Waylon's meetings started to go bad after the first heat.
In the first heat, well, it was a bit of a mess. We all got of the line at different times and there was a few rollovers. Coming down the main straight for the first time, Simon and I (Byron) had contact and I was launched under the things we were standing on. I managed to rejoin and I won the first race from Waylon who's car hadn't buggered up yet. I think Simon followed and then Matcus but I can't be sure.
The second race was very different to the first. We all got off the line at about the same time, although there was a bit of a crash into the first corner. That took out Waylon and Marcus and allowed Byron and Simon to have a bit of an advantage going into the next lap. That was pretty much the order we finished in. Simon had a great race and managed to stay on his four wheels for majoritory of the race. I however couldn't stay upright for more than a lap, which caused me to come in second. Waylon and Marcus dnfed and they didn't race in the final.
Well, it's time for the final. Harley and Jobe both lined up for the final because we didn't stop them. Simsy had 20 dollars on the winner, which enticed both the electric drivers to race as well. Harley's car got off to a good start as it had a brushless and was so light. Simon and I got out of the lap in front of Harley and built a bit of a gap. This was when it all went pear shaped for me. I did an exact replica of what I had done in the second heat, and started racing around the track with my wheels up in the air. Simon took a comfortable win, followed by me then Harley. Then Jobe.
There was a bit of an incident in the final of the electrics however. Waylon was turn marshalling the top corner. As the cars approached for the first time, Jobe flipped over and had to get Waylon to put him upright. However, Waylon being Waylon held onto Jobes car and waited for the cars to go past for their next lap. His reasoning behind this was so that Jobe didn't get to far behind. However again, Jobe didn't take this very well and he ended up storming off. Waylon got in trouble and felt bad and Jobe got last in Electric.
I think the source3 of Waylons problems were his steering servos. Waylon broke 5 steering servos on the race day. This is why he didn't race very much. His car was running pretty fine when he had it going, but the servo problem got in the way.
So that's basically it. Waylon, Marcus, Simsy, Jobe and I had to fix up the track before we raced and we did a great job (I reckon). A big thanks goes out to Simon who tuned nearly every petrol car to make them raceworthy and to get them going.
Maybe next time Waylon'll have a bit more luck. Same with Marcus. I reckon we'll also have more racers and a few more spectators. The track also needs watering down and a sprinkler system and a place were you can stand and all the sawdust taking off it and a bit more maintenance, but Walyon'll do that.
See ya next time.
