In 1985 an advertisement appeared in our local newspaper asking for girls who would be interested in starting a Majorettes Troupe in Accrington. this advert was placed in by a Mrs Foster of Blackburn.
Mr and Mrs Jagger and their daughter Pauline saw the ad and went to the first meeting. they were the only people that attended the meeting. after a discussion with Mrs Foster it was agreed that the Jagger's Telephone number could be used as a local contact and another ad was to be placed in the paper.
as the weeks went by, more and more girls joined and mrs Foster named the troupe The Crystalettes. by this time there were now 20 girls.
A committee was formed but some members did not approve of this. with some members living in Blackburn they wanted all their expenses paid for out of the funds. the other members did not agree to this, as on joining, they were told, everything for the troupe was done on a voluntary basis.
In september 1985 things came to head and the troupe split, half going with Mrs Foster and the other Half with Mr and Mrs Jagger.
Mr and Mrs jagger (Ken and Marie) could not use the name Crystalettes so a new name had to be found. As Accrington along with all the other surroundings areas became one name "Hyndburn" and it was the time of the Halley's Comet to appear in the night skies, HYNDBURN COMETS MAJORETTE TROUPE was born.
