Hyndburn Comets

Since the Committee was formed in 1985/86, the troupe has gone from strength to strength. The committee consists of ten members, four officers and six committee members who have been elected by persons who attend the Annual General Meeting. the four officers are the Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, secretary and Treasurer.

Our four officers are:-

Our Committee Members are :-

Maria Ormerod, Margaret Pounder, Irene Stewart, Alexis Cregg, Melissa Hale, Joe Walker and Linda Snape.

We hold atleast ten committee meetings each year as we as the yearly A.G.M Meeting. all the members are volunteers and do their best to keep The club running smoothly.

The committee are responsible for fund-raising, they organise the following, Raffles, Car boots, Jumble sales, Sponsored swims, Sponsored walks, and with the permit from the council and for over 18 years Fancy dress pub crawls and other ideas that may spring to mind.

We hold a Christmas party for the girls so they can invite Friends, parents and other relatives to join in the fun. there are games, disco, karaoke, presents, jumbo raffle, supper plus we present our own Annual Awards.

The committee are also in charge of running the tuck shop where the girls can purchase tea, coffee, pop, crisp, sweets, biscuits, toast, cakes etc, while on a break at training sessions or when we go out on a venue.

Once a year if funds permit, the committee like to thanks the girls for their hard work and dedication by giving them a day out at a theme park on all the white knuckle rides and if possible a little spending money

All in all they are there to look after the children and members, in which they do a fantastic job in making sure everything is done for them.

There are many other jobs that the commit do that the girls or parents do not see, the Secretaries paperwork, bookings and telephones calls. The treasure making sure that we have enough funds for all the equipment we need, booking transport and a thousand and one other jobs. 

The girls uniform are provided by the club, and are the property of the club. We do have a wonderful wardrobe mistress who washes and irons all the uniforms every weeks from April until the end of October, then in the winter months she re-measures every girls and refits the uniforms. This is the one and only Marie Jagger!

A committee member is responsible for buying and cleaning the pumps; they also have to be scrubbed then whitened each week.

We also have trainers to teach the girls the routines for competitions and displays, also the carnival dances.

The trainers are as follows:-

Tinies and juniors – Barbara Hale, Marie Jagger and Melissa Hale and Linda Snape.

Seniors – Marie Jagger, Linda Snape and Alexis Turner.

We are members of the P.D.A – Premier Dance Association and Y.C.A – Yorkshire Carnival Association. We attend their meetings whenever possible. In additions to these and in conjunction with the P.D.A as judges, we have held our own Competitions.
