» Fire Call-Out Siren: In many New Zealand towns the volunteer fire brigade is alerted to a call-out by means of an air raid style siren mounted at height, often at the top of the hose drying tower. The siren is triggered remotely at the same time as pagers are set off by an operator at one of the call centres from either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. Fire fighters carry personal pagers but they are not always 100% reliable and can be out of signal coverage, you might not always hear a pager but you won't miss the sound of a siren! (829Kb .wav)

» Fire Pager: This is the sound of the pager that fire fighters carry at all times to alert them to a call-out, it not only makes a beeping noise but has a small screen to display basic details of the call such as whether it's a structure fire, motor vehicle crash or fire alarm etc., and location. (164Kb .wav)

» Siren & Pager: A sound to get the adrenalin pumping for many "firies"! (829Kb .wav)

» Tsunami Warning Siren: Some - but not all - coastal areas of NZ have air raid style sirens to warn of a tsunami threat. Unlike the fire siren which normally has a rising/falling tone, the tsunami siren is a continuous wail which lasts at least ten minutes. *NOT GUARANTEED AS SIGNAL FOR YOUR AREA - DIFFERS FROM REGION TO REGION* (720Kb .wav)

» Civil Defence Stinger: This alert is blasted through your TV or radio (if they're turned on of course) to let you know an important Civil Defence message is about to be broadcast. (80Kb .wav)
