Recycling Horses .... One Horse at a Time

                    THE TRAVELERS

These are the horses that have come for a time and gone on with their lives elswhere.  Below are pictures of them before or when they arrived and later or after they left.

                               HARRY

Harry is a white percheron.  He was a carriage horse in New York City, he's the horse with the pink nose on the drivers left in the picture below.  He was not happy driving through the city and he came to live with me.  Harry now lives on Cape Cod and gives tourists and locals carriage, hay and sleigh rides.  Sometimes a horse that's worked is more content to continue working.  Harry has a fine life without having to work every day.

                            BLACK BEAUTY

Beauty was part of a multiple horse rescue from a direct to kill buyer.  She is an older Morgan type mare.   I purchased her and with the help of others involved in the rescue, had her shipped here from Pennsylvania.  Before she I could see her I was told that the horses were all in pretty bad shape.  When we opened the trailer she was very happy to get off and her whole demeanor changed.  Head up, walking nicely, I led her to her stall.  As you can see from the picture below her eye's were encrusted.  I irrigated her eyes and cleaned her up.  A week later you can see that she was happy and enjoying her new environment.  Big thanks to KIM for trailering her to Hunter Hollow.  Beauty is now the first horse for a young family with children.  She is safe and pretty much bomb proof for a young beginner to learn riding.

                                     ROSIE

Rosie was also a carriage horse in New York City.  She was very headshy and scared of people handling her.  Like Harry, Rosie would thrive in a light working environment.  Rosie went to live with a woman who worked the Mounted Patrol at the University of Massachusetts/Amhert.   What a great job for her in a beautiful setting.

Rosie is the first horse in this picture of the Unit:

Rosie passed away February 2009.  The pictures below were taken just a short time before she passed ...... peacefully.  Thank you Sue for giving her the best years of her life:

                                      OBIE

Obie was and still is, my dream horse.  He is a stunning grulla appy with a full peacock blanket and three dimensional spots.  Obie liked to jump.  My jumping days were long over.  I knew he would always want to jump.  He'd jump every chance he had .... rose bushes, streams, branches on the ground.  While he was here we rode him all over the trials, power lines, roads.  By the time he moved on, he had alot of endurance experience. Obie became one of the top 10 Novice eventing horses in the country.  Thank you Roberta for the patience you have had with this guy .... we love him.
