IRS or Individual Reasearch Study is a research module that is conducted by the student over the course of 6 months as a course to learn independent study skills while he is assisted by an IRS Mentor (a teacher experienced in the field of his study). The reasearch is centered around a reasearch question that was previously formated by the student. I am a student in the VSGEP (Victoria School Gifted Education Programme), Koganti Viswa Tej, and my IRS Mentor is Ms. Toh, a teacher of geography to all levels and the IRS coordinator for the VSGEP. Below is my proposal form details.

This Study aims at studying the popular subject of paleoantropology and providing a detailed summary of the hominids and their characteristics. The field of science which studies the human fossil record is known as paleoanthropology. It is the merging of the disciplines of paleontology (the study of ancient life forms) and anthropology (the study of humans).
I wish to understand the history of humans. I have for long hoped to examine the beginnings of human life. I hope that this study can satisfy my curiosity. I wish to uncover the characteristics of earlier Homo sapiens as they evolved and contrast them with us.

Introduction to Human Ancestory
|
The word "hominid" refers to members of the family of humans, Hominidae, which consists of all species on our side of the last common ancestor of humans and living apes. Hominids are included in the superfamily of all apes, the Hominoidea, the members of which are called hominoids. The hominid fossil record is not complete and the evidence is often fragmentary but there is enough to give a good outline of the evolutionary history of humans. The field of science which studies the human fossil record is known as paleoanthropology. It is the merging of the disciplines of Paleontology (the study of ancient life forms) and anthropolody (the study of humans).
