Hard Starting-- 1955 Hudson Hornet V-8

The following excerpt appeared in the June 1955 Hudson "Service Merchandiser" Vol. 1 No, 3:

"Effective with Engine No, P10050 a new dust cover (Carter Part No, 118-1120) incorporating an atmo-
spheric vent valve was placed in production.

"On all Hudson Hornet V-8's that come into the shop below the above serial number, install the new
Dust Cover Unitized Package. Part No. 3119115, furnished by your Zone or Distributor.

"The installation of this unit will be a great aid in eliminating hard starting with the engine hot,

"Upon closing the throttle, the valve is automatically opened venting atmospheric pressure “in” to the
float chamber and internal pressure “out”, This permits greater differential pressure between the fuel in
the float chamber and idle discharge ports, increasing fuel flow out of idle discharge ports at time of
cranking engine, Upon throttle opening, the atmospheric vent valve closes, permitting the balance vent
tube to control fuel metering,

"The carburetor float level has also been revised from 3/16” to 1/4”.  At time of float adjustment, it is
important to inspect for float interference which may exist between the side of float and float bowl
chamber. In this instance, a slight pressure may be applied to the float to-provide clearance. Interference
may also exist between the pin end of the float lever and the side of the Pin mounting boss. This would
result in the float binding, Float interference will result in either a flooding or a starving condition and
must be corrected.

1956 Hudson Series 80 Distributor Assembly

The following information appeared in the March and April edition of the Hudson "Service Merchandiser":

"The dual contact distributors Part Number 6471072, Auto-lite IBK-4001-B. 6-volt type and Part Number 6480362, Auto-lite IBJ-4001-D,
12-volt type are so similar in centrifugal and vacuum ignition advance curves that they could be interchanged without a noticeable effect on vehicle performance.

"For this reason, a number of 1956 Series were built with the IBK-4001-B distributors before the later IBJ-4001-D distributors were incorporated at Engine Serial P-25306.

"For service testing specifications, consult the 1956 Technical Service Supplement when working with distributor IBJ-4001-D and the 1955 Technical Service Manual when servicing the IBK-4001-B distributor."
