Hoya Dance Team, the most visible dance group at Georgetown University, performs jazz, hip hop, kick, and pom routines at Georgetown University home football games, men's home basketball games, Midnight Madness, Georgetown Day, Hoya-thon, and various events in Washington D.C.
Auditions for Hoya Dance Team are held early in the fall semester. They consist of a warm-up, across the floor combinations, a jazz/kick dance combination, and short hip hop and pom routines. Evaluations are based on technique, showmanship, precision, energy, flexibility, and potential. No formal dance experience necessary to audition.
Hoya Dance Team was originally founded as Georgetown University Kickline in September of 2000. Melisa Hoffman (MSB '03) and Linda Pratka (MSB '03)worked hard to create a team that would entertain thousands of fans at basketball half-time shows. The MCI center welcomed the first Kickline performance in January of 2001. Since its inception, the team has grown to perform various styles of dance such as jazz, hip hop, and pom, while maintaining the tradition of the crowd-pleasing high kicks.
