Howard Farms, home of AQHA Champion Eternal Sun, is an outstanding breeding operation. Located near Remus, the farm has long been known for its strawberries and Quarter Horses. Every mid-June to mid-July the Strawberries are in season and can buyers can pick themselves or buy pre-picked berries. As for the horses, there are always horses for sale at the farm.
In 1966, Harold Howard and a neighbor went to the B. F. Phillips sale in Texas in search of a good stud and a few good mares to breed him to. He returned with Eternal Sun and four mares. In just three years the Howard herd exapnded to 55 head. Today the farm has about 60 head.
Eternal Sun was a well-known horse when he moved to Michigan. In addition to be an AQHA Champion he was rated AAA on the track, the highest possible rating. In 1968 he was the fourth leaing producer of Halter Champions in the nation. Before Eternal Sun's death he produced 33 AQHA Champions. Almost of all the horses on the Howard Farm still carry the Eternal Sun bloodlines which is why all the colts have such outstanding characteristics and disposition. The Howard Farm has always been a family affair when it comes to both the Strawberries and horses. Harold and Darlene, his wife of 57 years have six children. Dar, Julie, Terry, Ricky, Mary Kay, and Joanie. Growing up all of the girls were very active in showing horse. Most all the girls married into a farm background, and his son Dar owns Dar's Barn, also located on M-20.
