Robert Hoar Sr. married three times. He had one son, Robert Hoar- Horr
II with Sarah Willis. With Judah- Judith Tinkham he had three children;
Peter, Sarah and Judith. His third wife Rachel had been previously
married to Haskins or Hathaway and had two children with Robert Sr.;
John and Rachel.JVS
"Robert Hoar [senior] was a miller and operated a grist mill, which was
operating yet in 1792 when it was sold by his son, John. He [Robert
Sr.] divided his father's property with only surviving brother, William
[the Deacon] in 1765. Robert was a prosperous and active citizen."
Norton T. Hoar [Robert Sr.’s father died 13 Feb 1746/1747 and his
mother died 12 Jul 1765.]
Two of his children married descendants of George5 Pierce. (GEORGE5, ISAAC4, ISAAC3, ISAAC2, ABRAHAM1)
Jonathan Hoar married Abigail Pierce, and Rachel Hoar married Harmon
Pierce-Peirce. Robert’s son Peter Hoar married Mercy-Marcy6 Pierce.
(Job5, Ebenezer4, Isaac3, Isaac2, Abraham1 PIERCE) I am still searching
for the parents of Olive (Polly?) Pierce born 1771.
Can not find him as head of household in 1790 census.

Robert,
and his family, lived in Dartmouth, Freetown & Middleboro, of
Bristol Co MA. He bought land in Dartmouth, there in 1768. In 1773 “of
Dartmouth” when be bought land at Freetown. Sold part of his holdings
in 1785. The rest in 1791 after moving to New Salem, before 1790. While
living in Freetown, in 1778, he was a sergeant under Capt. Henry Pierce
of 4th Co. Middleboro, he served as commissary collecting forage. Note
there are five Pierce marriages in this couples descendants.

Robert. Sergeant, Capt. Henry Peirce's co., Col. Ebenezer White's
regt.; marched Aug. 1, 1780; discharged Aug. 9, 1780; service, 9 days,
at Rhode Island on an alarm. Roll sworn to at Middleborough.

Sarah
was married near her 18th birthday. Sarah and Robert were married over
50 years. They had 12 children in 24 years. Sarah was about 45 years
old at the birth of her last child, Judith. Judith was born near
Sarah’s birthday and two days before her 25th wedding anniversary. This
couple buried one child, Peter in 1786. I have not been able to locate
descendants of son Willis or daughter Sarah. JVS

Census: 1790 Middlesex Co. MA, New Salem twp. part of Hampshire Co. pg. 118 Hoar, Robert; 3 males -over 16 yr, 4 males- under 16, 3 females, no others or slaves. This works out to be; 3 males over 16; head Robert, sons Jacob, Israel, 4 males under 16; Willis, Robert III, Elijah, Issac 3 females; wife Sarah, dau Sarah, & Mercy. Judith was not yet born. Peter had died. Note this number does not include son Warren married abt 1790, or dau Elizabeth married abt 1788. Shadrach Hoar 1790 census has an extra female and male. Half brother Peter Hoar in Plymouth Co has an extra male over 16.
1800 Census: New Salem, Hampshire Co, Massachusetts Hoar, Robert 1 male under 10 yrs. 1 male 10 to 16 yrs. 2 males 16 to 26 yrs. 2 females under 10 yrs. 1 male over 45 yrs. 1 female over 45 yrs. Also in New Salem was Shadrach Hoar.
1810 census: Denmark, Lewis Co, New York Robber Hor I believe that sons Willis & Elijah and daughter Mercy as well as son Jacob’s family were living with him. 3 males under 10 [Jacob's sons Elijah, Josiah, Walter] 2 males 10 to 16 yrs [Jacob's sons Obed, Pierce] 0 males 16 to 26 yrs 3 males 26 to 45 yrs [Willis, Elijah, and Jacob now married] 1 male over 45 yrs [Robert] 1 female under 10 yrs [Sarah, Jacob’s dau] 0 females 10 to 16 yrs 1 female 16 to 26 yrs [Mercy] 1 female 26 to 45 yrs [Hannah, Jacob’s wife] 1 female over 45 yrs [Sarah]
Children used the name Horr. A few later generations used Hoar, Hor, Harr, Hoard, Hord, Horrworth, and Orr. Robert
had 37 grandsons. Three were named William, three named Charles, and
three named Warren. None were named Robert. (24 granddaughters)
1st
child Warren returned to Massachusetts, four children stayed in New
York; 2nd child Elizabeth, 4th Israel, 8th Elijah, and 11th child
Mercy. The 3rd child Jacob went to Ohio, 7th Robert went to Illinois,
and 12th Judith went to Michigan. The 10th, Isaac went to Ohio but
returned to New York. JVS

of the same pedigree as the distinguished family of that name in
Massachusetts, and was changed to Horr by an act of the legislature.”

Robert’s half brother,
Peter, lived in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. Little is known of him.
He married Mercy/Marcy PIERCE and by census appears to have had two
sons and three daughters with unknown names. When he died he had no surviving children.
Robert’s half
brother, John, lived in Pelham, Hampshire Co MA. He married Abigail
PEIRCE b: 24 Nov 1785 in Pelham, Hampshire, MA. Her parents were George
Peirce & Sarah Pierce. Note spelling of surnames. John and Abigail had 15 children.
Robert's half sister, Judah-Judith, also lived in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. She married Barnabas, Lieutenant CLARK and had six children.
Robert's half sister, Rachel, also lived in
Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. She married Hermon PEIRCE whose sister
Abigail married Rachel & Robert's brother John. Rachel had eight
children.
