�Horr: Harry Horr founded the town in October of 1887 to service the nearby coal mines. The first carload of coal was shipped to Livingston that same month. The post office opened in June of 1889. Prior to that time residents had to travel to the Gardiner post office. The town was renamed Electric on January 30, 1904 to commemorate the huge new electric plant built nearby to supply the mines. However, it has been said (tongue-in-cheek) that the town was renamed because the women were tired of living in �Horr� houses. Due to labor problems and financial difficulties due to low coal prices, the mines and coke ovens of the Montana Coal & Coke Co. ceased operations in 1910, devastating the town�s economy. The population dwindled and the post office closed in 1915.
Horr, Harry : By 1870 he was employed at Fort Ellis as a civilian employee of the post trader�s store. When Truman Everts was lost in the fall of 1870, Horr and two soldiers accompanied George Pritchett back to Yellowstone to help transport Everts to Bozeman. The next year Horr became co-owner of McCartney�s hotel at Mammoth when they filed claims on July 5 [1871] at the Gallatin County Courthouse. They also filed claims a month later in Evanston, Uinta County, Wyoming Territory. The claims were later ruled invalid as the territory had never been officially opened to homesteading. He sold or gave up the business to McCartney in 1873. He claimed �I gave the Springs [Mammoth Hot Springs] the name they now bear.� Horr later went on to start the Horr Coal Co. with his brother Joseph and uncle, Dr. Asa Horr, in 1883 at an area north of Gardiner. They were unable to actually develop the mines and Harry sold out his interest in 1889. The town of town of Horr, which later became known as Electric, was named after him.�
