How We Got Started
In
August of 2006, we acquired a broken otter standard Rex and a broken
chestnut Mini Lop. We purchased them, both bucks, as pets and future
4-H projects. In August of 2007 our daughter showed her Rex, Thumper, for 4-H. She loved it so
much that we decided to look into purchasing a show quality pair of
Standard Rexes. Our online search led us to the Montana Rex Ranch and
to make a long story short, we became the proud owners of 9 more
beautiful, velvety Rexes, Several of which are Grand Champions! Thank you, Steve, Kristi and James!!
We're new to showing although we've had various rabbits over the
years. We attended our first ARBA show in
September 2007. We had made arrangements to pick up a couple of Black
Otters from The Montana Rex Ranch
and wanted to get a feel for what showing was like. We were privileged
enough to see our son's new black otter doe, MT Mercedes, win BOB. It
was her 3rd leg making her a Grand Champion. It was very exciting! By
the end of the day we had not only taken possession of the two black
otter Rexes but we had each acquired a Netherland Dwarf, even my
husband.I've
been busy reading everything I can get my hands on so that we can learn
as much as possible and make informed decisions about what's best for
our rabbits. We've started our breeding program in the hopes that when
spring rolls around we will have some very nice animals to show. We are
very pleased to announce that MT Mercedes gave us our first
home bred litter in October. Since then we've had litters born to Vegas and Grace. Our lionhead doe Lacey has raised 2 litters and Dr. Pepper, one of our ND does has a litter of 5 currently. We have two does due in mid April and we're looking forward to the beginning of the show season.
