Alicia has admitted that music saved her from a troubled youth,
revealing her mother sent her to music lessons to keep her off the
streets of NY's Hell's Kitchen. She said: "It was the best thing she
ever did for me.
I'd go and hang out with my friends, but would only do it for 45
minutes as I had to get to my next class. My extracurricular lessons
gave me a real sense of focus and drive and they helped to keep me out

The Toronto International Film Festival announced more feature-film
premieres yesterday, and the big names attached to the projects
provide an early indication of the star power that could be coming to
town this September.
Among the celebrities starring in the two gala and seven special
presentations are Alicia Keys, Keira Knightley, Gerard Butler, Dakota
Fanning, Queen Latifah, Paul Bettany, Jennifer Hudson, Ricky Gervais,
Greg Kinnear, Ralph Fiennes and Jeremy Piven.
