Our troupe was formed in April 2006 and since then we have gone from strength to strength.
was formed from the original Honiton Young Britons in 1977, shortly after this they were sponsored by Express Creameries and this is why Honiton Majorettes were always in blue and white. June Pottinger trained the troupe and Ken Pottinger trained the band with the help of the committee including, Rose and Keith Joslin, Chris and Dil Larcombe, Sheila Billett, Maureen White to name but a few. The troupe was disbanded about 1991, but it was not to end here!!!
Dawn Enticott was missing the good old days and when she saw in the paper that the Majorettes were to reform got on the phone quick. Then decided that Lindi had to come too!!!
After being helped out by Lyme Regis Majorettes with some old uniforms and pompoms the Honiton Twirlstars were born.
We train our girls (no boys have applied) routines for various events during the year so there is always something new to learn. We also have a very strong family ethos where manners and respect are expected from all members.
We are run by a volunteer committee of 5 ladies, mostly mum's who work extremely hard to keep the troupe happy and healthy.
Majorettes increases skill and activity but also teaches young people about respect for yourself and others, it teaches them teamwork and looking out for one and other, it teaches pride in the skill they have learned and how to hold yourself high.
All of the above are put together to form a team to entertain the general public at functions such as Fetes, Carnivals and Competitions.
We currently have 37 girls ranging from 4 years to 16 years.
We train on a Thursday evening
5.30~6.30pm Tiny Tots (7~9 years)
6~7.30pm Juniors (9~12 years)
7~9pm Seniors (12~19 years)
We charge £15.00 per year Membership fee, due in April each year and £3.00 per week subs, all equipment and uniforms are provided.
