Our Family

A History of Us

We met in junior high school, in the ninth grade, among friends. We were on and off as a couple through our senior year. Then we even had a college class together (I only went for a few weeks). We went our separate ways, married other people, then divorced. We became reacquainted and got married in 1997. I brought two children into the marriage, then in 2004 and 2006 the two newest were born.

This year we will have been married for ten years! When we started out, he was driving a truck, and I was managing a video store. He then went from driving to dispatching, and a couple of years later, I went to work there in another part of the office. This freed up our weekends, and we started going to church. We both had attended church as youngsters, but in our teen years we really didn't go anymore. We found a church that we liked, and got baptized together along with our oldest child.

We began homeschooling in 2002. Originally, I had simply wanted to be a stay at home mom, as it seemed that the kids were growing up without parents. They were at school and daycare for about 10 hours a day, spent about 2 hours with us in the evening before going to bed, and probably half an hour in the mornings. Five years of this going on - it was getting to me. We finally decided that we would try to live on one income. But first, hubby started his own business.

We really jumped off a cliff, so to speak. He quit his job, started a lawn maintenance business, and a couple of months later, I quit my job. It was the beginning of summer break from school. As it got closer to the beginning of the new school year, I started thinking that God wanted me to homeschool the kids. I didn't do anything about it, but as the time drew nearer, I started feeling an urgency about it - two weeks away from the first day of school. So, here we are. Maybe that's what you call a leap of faith!
