OBJECTIVE

For students to design and test a container for shipping a single Pringles™ potato chip, via the US Postal Service.  The participating homeschools will be matched up via this web page.  Students will exchange packages with homeschools somewhere in the United States.  Upon arrival the packages will be evaluated and scored using the format in the scoring section.

GOAL

To engineer the package to have the smallest volume and smallest mass that will protect the chip so that it arrives at its destination undamaged.

This challenge is being presented by a homeschool Mom.  We don't use a particular curriculum...but rather a mish-mash from different places.  I use a lot of internet resources--and my FAVORITE book is "Home Learning Year By Year:  How to Design A Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School.

This challenge has been done with public school students, at colleges of engineering, and many other science/engineering classes.  So, I thought WHY NOT with homeschool students.  This is the first year but I hope we can do it every year!  This is a GREAT way to get the kids thinking!!

There are no sponsors or affliations with any group or company.  This activity is not associated with Proctor and Gamble, the makers of Pringles.  For more information, or any questions you might have, please e-mail me at PringlesChallenge@hotmail.com
