Red House Farm

Location: Red House Farm, Grid Reference NZ334725, Parking in nearby housing estate, Turn off the A1148 into Red House Farm (roundabout just behind sainsbury's) Turn down First Left ( North Ridge) keep driving until you see the pond on your left. There is a cut along the right hand side of the pond which will take you to the footpath which goes round the woods.

   Red House Farm is my earliest patch, it has a wide range of habitats, grassland, mix woodland, marshland, reedbeds, and a small but great pond. This site is un- birded i don't see many people with binocs or telescopes! I have seen a few rairarities on this site including: Red Crested Pochard, Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Kingfishers. Please visit and have a look.

Snow melt has filled the pond right up above the small wall surrounding it, drainage seems slow I may need to unclog drain at other end. No sign of Kingfisher, from previous years once water begins to flow into pond rapidly, making it cloudy, the kingfisher tends to move off, but hopefully this isn't the case. Willow Tit was present in hedge along side pond.

 Kingfisher seen today, again very vocal, just bought a bag hide from wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk good bit of kit, Pair of Moorhen, 6 Mallards, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Blackbird, Wren, Dunncock, Robin, Chaffinch, Greenfinc, Small flock of Fieldfare overhead, Mistle Thrush, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Jackdaw, Rook, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Herring Gull, Black Headed Gull, and the usual large number or Rabbits.

Trying to get a decent shot of the Kingfisher, came witihn a metre but willows blocked it from a good shot, will try again, also a skein of Greylag overhead, Robin flitting about next to me, Long-tailed Tit flock over the top in willows, a few Mallards and a Moorhen.

First try, it was not to bothered by me, although I was camoed up, happily fishing just behind branches only a metre away.

Site has been quiet lately, allow there is large numbers of Chiff Chaff and Willow Warbler around ( one visiting my garden), not much sparrowhawk actively, assuming the female is building nest etc, also lots of other birds actively building, and displaying, including woodpigeon, chaffinch, blackbird, wrne, blue tit (dissapointinly nesting in the second box in my garden, the one without the nest cam) , great tit. I also have Starlings busy building in our nest box, in the winter  think i'll move the eco-watch camera into the starlings box, hopefully produce results to put on the site.

Chiff Chaff heard, first for me on this site

Just a quick look today 5 + Mallard, Moorhen, 30 + Magpie, Wren, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Black Headed Gull , no kingfisher saw but it was hard to see its normal haunts because of the sun.

Quick flash of blue showed that the kingfisher was still present, also male sparowhawk seen hunting again, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Mallard, Moorhen, Woodpigeon, Carion Crow, Jckdaw, Blackbird and plenty of rabbits also present, 4 Curlew flew over towards the sea.

1st proper visit this year, produce 1 Female Kingfisher presumed same was as last year, it normally sits on the left hand side of pond in willows. Also male sparrowhawk partrolling area, Songthrush, Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Blackbird, Mallard, Moorhen, Woodpigeon Jackdaw, Black Headed Gull, Carrion crow, Wren.
