Hare & Hound Glory Days Run - Friday, May 23, 2008 - Get ready for another of Sarah and Rosemary's infamous scavenger hunt runs!
The Hare & Hound Run started in the summer of 2006, when Sarah and Rosemary got the bright idea to lead the Scramblers on a goose chase through the city of Holton. Equipped with a variety of pastel sidewalk chalk, Sarah and Rosemary (aka "The Hares") began their odyssey at 5:30 p.m. from the Holton LifeCare Fitness Center (at its old location west of Holton). From there they ran through the Wal-Mart parking lot across Hwy 75 and through the Sheriffs Office lot. They continued to mark their trail with chalk arrows and clever instructions. Meanwhile, a group of Scramblers (aka "The Hounds") left the Fitness Center at 6 p.m. hot on the trail of the "Hares." Sarah and Rosemary completed their trail after a little over three miles ending at the home of Kelli (she doesn't run, but she makes a mean beergarita). Close on their tail and leading the pack were Les and Mike M. However, after nearly half an hour of no-shows...The run became a search and rescue as Rosemary and Sarah went looking for lost Hares. Apparently, the remaining Hares got tired of following chalk marks and decided they could guess where the post-party was being held. The group ran for 6 miles before giving up. When Rosemary and Sarah found them back at the starting line, Ron spanked the Hares for making the course so hard!
In the summer of 2007, Sarah and Rosemary decided to revive the Hare & Hound Run with different course markings (plastic lawn flamingoes). Private homeowners were asked to post the lawn ornaments and runners would run from one address to the next until they reached the secret party location, which was hosted by Dru (He owns a lot of flamingoes!) The run went smoothly and Hounds enjoyed a Mexican themed party before a thunder storm hit...
May 2005--The Scramblers Breakfast Runs were born with the Circleville Challenge. Eight runners and a lone biker rode from Holton to Circleville with the thoughts of breakfast at the Homeplace Cafe getting them over the huge hills on the 11 mile course.
July 2005--The Hower Hotter than Hell Haul to Whiting. We sweat and struggled our way from Hower's ranch to Whiting, on the hottest weekend of the year. Our ranks grew as 12 runners and 6 bikers started north on that muggy, hot and still day. The Whiting Cafe was filled to capacity with athletes and our glorious Sag drivers, Mary, Kelli and Jason. They were our heroes with cold drinks that day.
