History of aromatherapy
Even though modern Aromatherapy has only been around for the last hundred years, it's origins can be traced back alot further. Egyptians used them to embalm their mummies with, they used Myrrh, frankincese, henna, juniper, cedarwood & many more, also it is said that the Egyptians portrayed their love for flowers on the walls as painting.
The ancient greeks would give their soldiers Myrrh to help heal war wounds
In the 1920's Rene Gattefosse a french chemist, did experiments with essential oils & it is said that one time he had burnt his hand & put it into Lavender essential oil, which he had found that this healed his hand and soothed it & left no scars, which then led him to find out about other essential oils, he came up with the word Aromathapie in 1937, This man went on to publish a book titled Aromatherapy.
In the second world war aromatherapy almost came to a standstill until doctor Jean Valnet was influenced by the work of Rene Gattefosse and started to use Antiseptic essential oils on the soldiers.
As we all know that plants,berries,roots & flowers were used for many a thing, Pilots were said to eat bilberries to help with their vision at night.
