- THE TURN AND RIVER
- The players who will want to pay to see the turn
have either already got their combination or they are paying a lot
to get to see just one more card which might complete a very good
combination for them.
- The players who also pay for the river will be even
more willing to pay for their hand.
- If an opponent starts betting and raising wildly
after the turn then you will know he has got the card he
wanted.
- If he starts betting after the river then the cards
on the table will have to tell you whether he is in a position to
beat your combination or not.
- If you are holding a good combination it can hurt a
lot to fold when somebody else is starting to raise on you, but
there is no doubt that to call the last raises now and lose will
cost you a lot more money than you will be able to win back later.
The reason for this is that the more somebody raises on you then the
more likely it is that they do have the winning cards. All the
losses you make by not folding at this point will, in the long run,
be tremendous. Also remember, it is very nice to get to see the
cards of your opponent and to stay in with the hope of winning this
great pot of money, but you are taking a high risk. Not only will
this way of playing become your worst enemy in the long term, but it
may also be your opponents best friend by putting your money right
into their pockets due to your lack of discipline.
- There is also another calculation to keep in the
very back of the mind though;
- IF the pot is at a very, very high level and the
final call to view your opponents cards is very small compared to
the money already in the pot, then you should call rather than
fold.
