COMMONLY USED WORDS IN POKER:
- AGGRESSIVE: To
repeatedly place bets and/or raise.
- BET: To put money into
the pot (on the table) according to the value of the cards you have
got.
- BLINDS: The amount of
money every player will have to put in the pot to join in on the
game. Normal is one half and one full blind at each round (e.g.
$0,25 and $0,50) plus a full blind when you join the table.
- CALL: To match a
previous bet from a player in an earlier position to stay in the
game.
- CHECK: To see the next
card or at the end your opponents' cards without placing a further
bet in the round. Do NEVER FOLD IF YOU CAN CHECK unless you have
been raising bets on cards of no value and don't want the other
players to see this.
- DEALER: The one sharing
out all cards to the individual players.
- DEALER BUTTON: A button or mark (in online poker often marked with the letter D) to show who is dealer during the current
game. The player to the dealers left gets the first card. The
dealer will also be the last one to give bets during the
round.
- DEUCES: Cards with the
value 2
- FOLD: To stop playing
your hand and not to be a part of the betting round any more.
- FLOP: The first 3 cards
shown on table (before the turn of 1 card next and river of 1 card
last)
- HAND: You are given two
starting cards to play with. The table will show first 3 cards (the
Flop), then 1 more (the Turn) and finally 1 more (the River). Any
best combination of 5 cards (e.g. 7 7 7 2 2 will be a full house of
sevens filled with deuces) will be looked at as your hand.
- LIMP IN: Not to raise
the blinds even though your hand is made out of two very good cards,
like a top pair.
- LOOSE: To play small
card combinations and/or cards of a too low a value to see the flop
too often.
- MUCK: Not to allow other
players to see your two cards on hand after you have lost a full
betting round. Cards cannot be mucked if another player has paid to
see your cards (called) or if everybody has checked.
- POSITION: Where you are
sitting compared to the dealers button at each and every individual
round.
- POT: The combined amount
of money being bet by all players.
- RAISE: To bet more than
the player before you has already bet during the current betting
round.
- RIVER: The last card
shown on table (after the flop of 3 cards first and turn of 1
card)
- STARTING HAND: The value
of the two cards you have got which will determine whether it's
worth a bet or not.
- STACK: The amount of
chips somebody has got.
- SUIT: The actual kind of
card, Club, Diamond, Heart or Spade.
- TIGHT: A player who is
not taking part in the round unless he or she has an outstanding
chances of winning.
- TURN: The 4th card shown
on table (after the flop of 3 cards and before the river of 1
card)
- VALUE: The value of your
cards compared to your statistical winning chance during the actual
betting round, compared to the money already in the pot. This
again can be compared to how many times you will win or lose
spending the actual amount of money you will be betting compared to
the actual amount of money you might win. The calculation of all
this will state whether your hand is of a higher or lower
value.

-
- 1.
CONCENTRATION, CONCENTRATION, CONCENTRATION
- Always make sure that you are feeling good and awake
before sitting down to play poker.
- Also make sure that you don't have too much
disturbing noise surrounding you. You will be in the fire, and will
have no time to deal with other things while playing this
game.
- Any loss of concentration without doubt will make
you sometimes press the wrong button at the wrong time, and you will
suddenly find yourself playing against people who bet hard making
you aware that your own cards are far weaker. This will force
you to fold and lose the money you have been putting in on this
hand.
- To be feeling the right way is simply a must for you
to make the right decisions.
-
-
-

- 2.
PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE
- To manage to make your money grow you will have to
be extremely selective of what you play and when. You will have to
play only the very right hand in the absolutely correct
position.
- On top of this, when you have got your hand and
decide to play it, you are dependent on the flop to give you some
good enough cards to give you a high chance of winning.
- Never play cards if you may risk being forced into a
betting round with not much to go with!
- Either you've got'em or you fold'em!
- The normal good and tight game would make you call
during the blinds round to see the flop at a rate of 1 to 5 times an
hour. There may be some very good periods at times, and there might
be some very long bad periods at times, but on average I think that
this will not be far from the truth.
- If you are on the low blinds and do not have the cards which you would have paid a full blind to be playing along with then there's no doubt - FOLD! Do
not think about the money already placed in a half blind!
- My most important hold'em poker tip is that you
always must make sure to fold your cards in time!
-
-
-

- 3.
POSITION, POSITION, POSITION
- The absolutely most important thing to look at
before placing a bet on your cards is where you are sitting compared
to the dealers button.
- Simply, if you are one of the first people to place
bets don't ever play any cards apart from the highest kind of pairs
with which you would no doubt raise the bet on, no matter
what.
- If your position in the betting rounds is early or
middle and if you are playing against people who are playing very
tight you could also take the risk to call or play the blinds for
cards like A Q or pairs of two nines or higher, but this is risky
since these cards will not be worth paying any more than the big
blind to play.
- If you are in a late/end position, with at the most
one person after you, you will first have to consider whether this
person would normally raise the blinds or not, and next whether your
own cards have a value high enough to take the risk to play them. I
would suggest any combination of pairs of 9 or higher cards if this
player is very tight and at least a pair of Jacks if this person is
playing loose.
- If you are on the dealer button you will be in a
very good position since you will be placing your bets as the last
one in a few rounds to come, but you are also at a risk since you've
got the two persons to your left (small and big blinds) to place the
blind bets after you. This situation makes it a great plus IF you
have got cards which are good enough to play and the small and big
blind players are playing their blinds tight enough to avoid the
great risk of the blinds to be raised.
- Poker is actually not at all about placing bets, but
mostly about making sure you save your money. Playing and betting on
cards which will not end up winning, or facing other players raising
the amount of bets into a value far above the value of your hand, is
the number one cause of all losses.
- Make sure you have an awfully good starting hand to
see the flop and only join in if you are very sure that the blinds
will not be raised unless you hold a pair of Aces or Kings where you
will raise the bet yourself from any position, or an Ace and a King
where you will call any bets being raised.
- No matter what position you are in, if you don't
hold the pair of Kings or a higher combination of cards, if the
blinds are raised by a player who normally would not raise the
blinds, then fold and forget your cards.
- There is no reason to pay to get into a game where
you know there is already at least one strong hand, so better to
wait for your next chance to make them bleed their money into your
own pocket.
-
-
-

-
- 4.
THE BETTING STYLE OF OTHER PLAYERS
- The only time you can go along with a raise of
blinds instead of folding is when your starting hand is at least a
pair of 10's or any higher combination and the players who are
betting higher blinds are playing very wild and loose with nothing
at all on hand.
- This is the kind of table at which your tight way of
playing will pay off at its very best!
- Make sure to always be paying close attention to who
is betting, calling and raising and with what cards. If the betting
goes wild and somebody wins with only a low pair then you will know
that this is a table with lots of loose players. Your patience and
correct decisions will make you a favourite to win the most money of
anyone at this kind of a table.
- If other payers are playing really tight, betting
very little and only winning with good combinations, you could maybe
take the risk of playing a little more cards from the blinds in the
latest position, but it is very hard to make a good win at such a
table. Playing poker takes hours of patience and more so, and if the
cards just aren't going your way for a couple of hours then find
yourself another table!
- The biggest mistake you can make if you are in a
betting round is to go along with another player, who is not a
totally wild and crazy loose player, who is raising on
you. Fold unless you are very very sure about having the very
best hand.
- If you feel that you are unsure, or even worse - if you are thinking that you want to see what his hand is - Then FOLD!!! This will make you avoid the
biggest mistakes and the highest loss of money in this game. The
last betting rounds cost a LOT more than the high blind to get to
see the flop, and to pay that much money on a losing hand is the
worse mistake you can do.
- If you fold every time this situation comes up it
will save you a lot more money in the long run than the money you
can win.
- If you are raised by a totally loose player, or the
same player several times, and you feel that you now have a strong
hand, then just check or call him out to the end. Never re-raise
after being raised on unless you are 99% sure you have got the
better hand.
-
-
-

-
- 5.
THE PLAYING STYLE OF OTHER PLAYERS
- To know what cards other players are paying to play,
what starting hand they will raise with or not, what combination
they will check or raise with and finally how often they will fold
their hand in a battle or not, is information of a very high
value.
- Do remember though that a person who is starting to
play in a poker room while having a drink today can be sober and a
lot more experienced player a few weeks later, so don't take a
pattern for granted in the longer run. Keep a very close eye on what
is happening at the table at this moment.
- If somebody is often joining in on the betting
rounds and even raising with cards of a rather low value you should
not be too scared about calling them out through the round if your
own cards are very good, but if a tight player suddenly start
raising a pot then be very careful about whether it will be smart to
stay in or not.
-
-
-

-
- 6.
THE AMOUNT OF MONEY IN THE POT
- Your starting hand and how much you will have to pay
to see the flop as well as your chances for hitting the correct kind
of cards should all be compared to the expected amount of money in
the pot.
- Playing in a late position not only affects your
ability to lower the risk of the blinds being raised, but it also
will make you able to control how much money there will be in the
pot. In the last position you can of course see how many players
have already placed their bets before you decide whether to join in
or not.
- If you sit with a couple of cards which will need
great support from several other cards from the flop to make a good
combination its hardly smart to join in on a flop with only one more
player in.
- I suggest you only play in a full 9 or 10 player room.
With 9 or 10 players around the table you will always know that there's a
chance that somebody will have very good cards on hand, which reduces your
chances of winning, but it will also make sure that the hands that
you do decide to play will often start with a good amount of money
in the pot due to the fact that all the bets of the players in
earlier positions will already have been made. Therefore: Play
awfully tight to make some really good wins and to reduce your
losses!
-
-
-

-
- 7.
YOUR OWN STARTING HAND
- Your starting hand will determine a lot about how
your money will last or not. You must fold almost everything unless
you are in a very good position, the money in the pot is a good size
and/or your own cards give you a very good chance of winning.
- From any position you could raise the blinds with a pair of Aces or Kings, and call any raises of the blinds with an Ace and a King.
- From a middle position you may play higher cards which are same suited and adjacent to each other.
- Good starting hands in a normal game and from a late position would normally be a pair of nines (or above) or any combination of two cards of 10 and a higher card, e.g. 10 and King.
- If you are at the very last position and there is enough money in the pot (at least 5 players already in) you should also go in with combinations like smaller pairs, (fold after the flop if you do not get the third one with smaller pairs) Ace and any same suited card and two same suited cards which are adjacent to
each other (e.g. 4 of hearts and 5 of hearts).
- These are cards which will seldom result in a win,
and if they do not give you a great start after the flop then you
should always fold unless you can check. The reason for this is that
most times you will not hit a third card of the pairs or a full
flush or straight option, and every time this happens you will have
paid to see the flop.
- When the pot has got a good amount of money in it,
compared to the number of times you will have to fold with nothing
at the flop, playing hands like this should give you just a slight
profit in the long run.
- As you probably will understand, the more you pay to
see the Turn and the River cards after the flop the more money you
will lose in the longer run, so remember: If the flop does not give
you a set of winning cards and somebody has raised, fold and get out
of this round!
-
-
-

-
- 8.
THE FLOP
- When the flop is on the table you will have made 71%
of your hand. To see the next 29% will cost you a lot more than the
price of just seeing the flop, and the chance of hitting your
required cards will be many, many times lower, so save your money
here and now - If you have not got them then fold them!
- With the flop a lot of things may happen. The first
and most important thing to figure out is what kind of cards the
other players might be sitting with. The secret to see this is in
the combination of their possible hands and their betting
style.
- If somebody hardly ever places a bet at all and
suddenly starts raising like a mad man he must have got some very
good combination already. The 3 cards on the table will no doubt
tell a lot about what he might have.
-
-
The main warning signs are:
- Two or three cards of same suit: Somebody will probably win with a flush. Their highest
card will decide.
- One pair: A dangerous
flop which opens up the chances of somebody having two pairs, three
of a kind, a full house and even 4 equal cards.
- Three cards of 7 or higher: Now there is a great risk of a high straight being the winner
hand.
- Never ever overlook the importance of evaluating your opponents possible combination and pay full attention to their betting manner!
-
- The one thing to remember is that the highest combination of hand will always be the winner. There might be a draw, but this is not a good
solution to bet for since the amount in the pot is very low compared
to what a full battle would be costing you.
- If two hands are both made up of the same two pairs,
then the last card will decide which one of the hands is going be
the winner. If both last cards are of equal strength there will be a
draw and a shared pot.
- Even though your flop might look good, never forget
the fact that another player could have a better combination than
you, or that they may manage to get it later on in the betting
rounds.
- You really should think of not raising like mad on
two pairs, even if one of them is made out of the highest card on
the table. It may well happen that another player has already got,
or will later get, his 3 of a kind or even a full house and you will
be badly beaten at the end of the story.
- If you have got a straight with one high card in, is
it possible for another player to have gained an even higher
straight with two high cards?
- If you have got a flush is it possible that another
player also has got the same flush with a higher card on top?
- When you find yourself in a situation where somebody
is raising like mad and some of these cards are in the flop then you
should fold at once unless your combination has a great chance of
being better.
- Do not join in on a betting round after the flop
without a completed good combination unless you have an Ace high and
another same suited card on your hand and with only one card short
of a full flush, but this option is only a good one as long as there
is no pair on the table, which could mean that full house or 4 of a
kind is out, which are better combinations than a flush, while a
straight or 3 of a kind will lose to the flush if it is
completed.
- Be very careful about how much you will pay in this
option though, and never raise unless you are the last one to act,
that you have pretty good cards and that nobody else has raised
before you.
- If other players are raising and you do not have a good and/or high enough combination - FOLD!!!!
- On the other hand in any situation, when you raise
you will certainly tell the other players that you have got
something good, and this should most probably make a few of them go
fold.
- This is the correct thing to do in almost all cases
since the best chance you will have to win at the final showdown is
by making sure that there are as few players as possible in the last
part of this game.
- But then again, if you are VERY, VERY SURE that your
hand will be the winning hand in the end, and that it is not at all
likely for anyone to beat you, THEN you maybe should think very
differently.
- Lets say that you have got a A 10 on hand and the
flop is A 10 A
- You are sitting on a full house of Aces filled with
tens.
- The only combinations that could beat you would be a
totally unbelievable Straight Flush or a Royal Flush. No matter
what, with such a hand you absolutely would want to make the other
players pump the pot with as much money as possible.
- You could do two things in this situation;
- 1. Wait for several
seconds as though you are really very, very afraid of somebody
having a better hand than yours before you place your bet. This will
quite often make other players feel a lot more strong handed and
they will call your bet.
- 2. Just check or call
and play along nicely and let the other players gain some better
combinations before you raise and collect your money at the very end
of the round.
- Some times a player will choose to check/raise the
rest of the players. This move is not something you should do
without a very certain opinion on why you are doing it. First of
all, if you just check with cards great enough to win you risk
loosing a full betting round. This could cost you!
- To first check and then to raise a bet made against
you will make the other players very aware that you have a solid
combination on hand. If this is correct then you really would not
like to scare them away too soon.
- If your cards are not so good this could be a very
scary move and may make people fold, but using a check/raise method
too late in the game, or against opponents who also hold a good
combination on hand, will do nothing but harm against your own
amount of money.
- The plain and easy ways are the very best ones - Bet
if you have got cards good enough for a win, call if you believe
that there is a good chance of winning this round and fold when you
feel that you hold a hand that might not make it.
- Basically though - What the other players may have
got on their hand should be foremost in your mind, ahead of whatever
combinations you might get yourself.
- Either you feel strong or you feel weak compared to
the cards on the table and the betting patterns around.
- If you feel strong then play very carefully but if
you are feeling just a bit weak then fold in good time before any
more of your precious money is wasted into an opponents'
pocket!
- Throughout all this, the most successful way of
playing is to make sure that you really have got the winning
combination as you go on, and then you can play hard.
- It is commonly known that the best way to win is by
playing very tight in combination with a very aggressive way of
betting. Being able to do just that you must make sure to fold
everything you will not win with and to endlessly raise while
holding a proper winning hand. This is the method of playing which
will totally separate the winners from the losers.
-
-
-

- 9.
THE TURN AND RIVER
- The players who will want to pay to see the turn
have either already got their combination or they are paying a lot
to get to see just one more card which might complete a very good
combination for them.
- The players who also pay for the river will be even
more willing to pay for their hand.
- If an opponent starts betting and raising wildly
after the turn then you will know he has got the card he
wanted.
- If he starts betting after the river then the cards
on the table will have to tell you whether he is in a position to
beat your combination or not.
- If you are holding a good combination it can hurt a
lot to fold when somebody else is starting to raise on you, but
there is no doubt that to call the last raises now and lose will
cost you a lot more money than you will be able to win back later.
The reason for this is that the more somebody raises on you then the
more likely it is that they do have the winning cards. All the
losses you make by not folding at this point will, in the long run,
be tremendous. Also remember, it is very nice to get to see the
cards of your opponent and to stay in with the hope of winning this
great pot of money, but you are taking a high risk. Not only will
this way of playing become your worst enemy in the long term, but it
may also be your opponents best friend by putting your money right
into their pockets due to your lack of discipline.
- There is also another calculation to keep in the
very back of the mind though;
- IF the pot is at a very, very high level and the
final call to view your opponents cards is very small compared to
the money already in the pot, then you should call rather than
fold.
- 10.
When to CHECK, CALL, BET, RAISE or FOLD
- The most difficult thing to know as a beginner
starting to play poker is when to check, raise or fold the cards.
Placing the bets is a language on its own, a two-way
communication;
- To check is to say that you don't have anything and
need more cards to fulfil your wanted combination.
- To call is telling that you are really hoping for
one more last card to fulfil your wanted combination.
- This is a player who is very weak but may get a lot stronger next if the wanted combination comes true.
- To be the first to bet means that you believe you
stand a very good chance of winning this hand.
- To raise means that you have got your wanted
combination and that you believe that you will win this hand.
- This is a player who sees him or herself in a very good position.
- As in the real life it is fully possible to lie in
Poker as by words;
- If you have got 2 kings on your hand and you decide
to limp in to see the flop, not to reveal the true strength of your
hand, and the flop comes up with 2 kings too, you will know for sure
that you will win no matter what. You will also know that if you
raise you may make many of the other players go fold. So you decide
just to check and call until the last card is on the table. At this
moment someone else might have got a pair or so, and you may find
that this player starts placing bets against you. The last bets are
worth a lot more than during the first two rounds, so in this case
you surely will gain more money than to raise from the beginning and
see everyone else go fold.
- On the other hand, if you have got nothing at all
you may raise to pretend that you have the greatest kind of a hand.
This will only work out when it is done at the very correct moment,
and that there is no other players sitting with some quite good
cards on hand. The very best effect of this kind of an action is
when the pot is very small and when you have created a very obvious
image of a very tight player.
- The normal and correct way of playing is to be
extremely tight and aggressive. What this means is that you will
have to sit and wait and wait to get the right kind of cards while
you are at the very right position.
- At this moment you act like a sledgehammer and raise
until it is very obvious, either from the flop itself or from being
raised or called by another tight player, or a combination of the
two, that your cards probably will not win. At this moment,
depending on the situation, you either fold or only check or
call.
- If another player is re-raising upon you I'd suggest
you fold unless you are absolutely sure that your own cards probably
will be better than the opponents'.
- When I see a flop I first of all look for a good
straight option, mostly because that's the hardest one to see. If
there's a pair on the table I do know that there might be two pairs,
3 of a kind or a full house coming up. The 4 of a kind option does
happen at times, but this is so seldom that I don't see it as a
reason to consider it. The times I'll lose to 4 of a kind after a
betting round is very few compared to all the good pots won that
same way.
- If I'm not sitting with two pairs with a top pair on
hand, or a full house with the three cards as the highest pair on
the table, then I'll be extremely careful about the way I play my
hand.
- If there's 2 suited cards on the table I will always
know that another suited card quite often will end up in a flush for
another player. In this case I will never place an ordinary raise, and in this
situation, if another player suddenly starts raising, I will no
doubt fold at once unless I am very sure that this person is on a
flush draw and I have already made a hand! After the flop there
is about 1 third to fulfil a flush with two cards on hand and
two on the table, and about 1 to 7 only after the turn! In this
case, when I already have made a hand but suspect that my opponent might be on a flush draw,
I very well might go all in to protect my hand and/or win at
more than half the times this happens, including the risk of
your opponent to have hit trips instead of a flush draw. If you
have got the trips you should go all in, since even a flush
would be beaten by a full house or by 4 of a kind
- Playing very tight unless you really got a hand is the very
safe thing to do, but at the same time, as soon as the other players
figure this out they might start raising against you like mad no
matter what just to make you fold, right?
- Yes, and here is where the real difference in
between the good and bad players comes in, because the good players
know when people start thinking and acting against them, and then
they start changing their playing style to adjust to this
situation.
- When sitting as the last one to place the blinds,
start raising some bets with nothing on hand and make the rest
believe that you now have picked up a good hand again. Before the
others manage to discovered your new move, a few more betting rounds
will have gone past.
- At a later moment you might have got a winning hand
again, and then such a few previous raises could pay you off even
better than if not!
- The time to adjust your way of playing is something
you will have to think of continuously during a game of poker.
- The first thing you will have to know is whom you
are up against. If you have got players placed after you who have
not yet placed their blinds, and often will raise, you are in a very
bad situation. To be placed right after such kind of a player is 10
times better than to be sitting right before them! If you have such
loose players after you, you will have to play as tight as possible
to know that you can match both their raises and their cards at the
moment you join in. When you go in though, you will know that your
cards have an outstanding good chance of beating this player, and it
may be a better payout than normal in this kind of a situation. This payout will
help you paying a lot more blinds while patiently waiting for your
next good chance. You will never know though, when you start joining
in with your hand up against a lose player, whether your own hand is
the better one or not. This is because these guys most often will
raise like mad no matter what they've got themselves.
- When you are on a table with very many tight players
you will have to do just the opposite thing.
- If you are on a table where players fold more often
than they play, you should play just a little bit more loose (to
play slightly more cards in an earlier position than you normally
would do) and be very aggressive (to place your bets and to raise)
when you first go in. But be very careful about what the cards on
the table are like - If such a tight player doesn't fold, but maybe
just call, it could be very, very risky to keep on betting. I would
just check, or give up and fold if raised, or rarely with good cards
call all the way out in such a situation.
- When sitting down at a table, always start playing
very carefully, save your money, and wait until you have got some
very good cards on hand. After a while you will probably have seen
who is betting what way compared to the kind of cards which are the
winning hands, and you will have a fairly good idea about who is
raising with a very good starting hand or not.
- What you always have to be very careful about is to
raise with a full straight. First of all; is there a flush option on
the table? Is there a pair which could be the base of a full house?
And finally, but not least - If you have not got the possible one or
two top cards of the straight, how can you know there is not
somebody else who has? Do remember this; In a straight option where
three cards of the 9 to A are on the table, almost always someone
will have one or two of the top cards on hand. Maybe the best you
can hope for is a shared pot? This will not be a loss, but it is
also not a very good pay-out compared to the bets you so far have
been placing. Be very careful playing this hand if you do not have
the only two possible top cards yourself!
- The way I see it, the best chance to know that you
have the winning cards is when you've got a combination of the
highest possible cards. A flush with an Ace on top is a very good
example of this, and be very careful raising with a flush without
the highest possible card on top! Many players are playing any flush
option, even though this way of doing it normally will not pay out
in the long run due to the costs of the times you don't manage to
win compared to the income in the times you will win with such a
hand. Another example of different kinds of hands can be seen on the
image below.
- Let's say that you are holding 9 9 on your hand.
This would have been a full house made out of the 3 highest possible
cards. As long as other people are willing to place their bets
you'll raise like a mad man!
- Another player who has got a hand of 9 5 would also
have a full house, but in this situation it surely would be the
losers hand. He would probably bet like a mad man too though.
- A third player could hold a K 7 on hand, there would
be a full straight. He would bet like a mad man!
- The next player hold a 10 7 on hand. He would also
have a straight, a higher one than the player above.
- But besides all this you have a full house at the
top position, and are sure to win as long as nobody is sitting with
a pair of 5's on hand! This option is too rare to even consider in
such a situation.

The most important thing is
to be very selective about what table to enter. The table you
would want to be at is a table with a few quite loose players
and a lot of quite tight players. It is here you will have the
greatest chance of picking your correct target and avoid silly
losses at a highest rate of your playing hands.
There are a lot of different
places where it can be nice to play, so you sure have got a
lot of options out there.
The different places have a
lot of offers of statistics and there is also software out
there with odds calculators to use directly on the table while
you are playing.
An odds calculator is quite
a nice tool if you are the only one who has it, but that's
unlikely to be the case.
I suggest you go into a
place where these kind of options are more limited.
One place I would like
to suggest to you is
Pokerchamps.com
They have got a pretty good bonus system
too.
Their quite new software is
constantly being improved, the rooms are not so filled up
which makes it very easy to find a free table to sit in on,
and I have not seen any obvious sign of people cheating by
chatting while playing and going for a collective raise of the
pots. Not least, up to now I don't know about any odds
calculators which will work with the Pokerchamps tables.
This place also has the
unique option of being able to play at up to 6 tables
simultaneously in a single window screen.
They have got rooms which
you should start at where you don't need to pay money to join
in and you don't even need to give any credit cards details
away to enter their fun rooms where you can practise on your
play by using fun money.

Be sure to join in on a limit game, and stay far away from the no limit games
until you really have got the skill of reading the opponents
hands and how to be betting at what time.
To start playing in such rooms will help
you to gain a few new skills;
First of all how the software and betting
rounds work.
Next to see what cards people might have
gained from the flop, river and turn and how their betting
pattern changes.
Last to get to know how your playing
against other people will work out, and if you have the right
skill, patience and discipline necessary to make a winning in
a poker game.
Do not believe that this will tell you
everything that you need to know though!
First of all; In the fun rooms and in the
real money lower rooms there is a lot of betting and raising
going on which will make it very hard to read the opponents
cards.
This makes it on the one hand harder to
see what cards the different players have got while on the
other hand it should create a better balance money wise by
winning larger pots by playing only some very selective
hands.
As soon as you can handle the fun money
places OK and see that your profit rises you should go to the
real money lowest levels of a hold'em limit table, since this
playing pattern will be very similar to the fun money tables
you've just been at.
Another level though, which is a lot more
accurate, is at a $0,25 and $0,50 Holdem limit table. Here you
will find that it is by far more easy to read what cards the
players are betting hard on or not and you will find a lot of
very tight players sometimes mixed with a few loose
players.
If you can manage to follow the above
advice for the most part then you also should manage to make a
profit at this level.
The least you should bring in at this
level is $25 and if you lose all of it then there are several
pieces of advice given on this page that you have not been
following properly. You will do things differently than I have
described here, we both know that, but the more of my advice
you choose not to follow and the more often it happens the
more money you will hand over to the other players at the
table.
And in that case I hope that I will see
you there! :-)
Stay away from any no-limit table and any
stack higher than the $0,25 and $0,50 tables.
The reason for this is that the playing
style is quite different in such places, and the skills of the
players is by far better than yours. You are almost doomed to
die in these rooms. Play where you can stand a
chance!
Your best chance is at a full 10-man
table with a few loose players and a lot of tight players
already in. If you sit and watch the game for maybe 30 minutes
or an hour before joining in you should have learned something
of their playing pattern and be able to enter with a great
chance of winning a few rounds.
When you have been practising for a while
you could also try a few tournaments out there. This demands a
totally different playing style and you will no doubt need to
read some accurate information on this special
issue.
After playing in limit tables and having
gained about 250 hours experience and managed to make a
growing profit in these kind of rooms, then it will be the
right time to take your experience into the no limit
tables.
It
is here you will have to adjust your previous experiences into
the new kind of playing style, but simultaneously to keep your
very tight to tight-aggressive way of playing as a standard
until you have learned the different playing style on such
tables. After a few good winning rounds your blinds will
become pretty small to pay compared to your income, and this
will make you able to play a few more cards from the start as
long as the blinds is not raised later on during the first
betting round.
The
no limit tables are also where you will make the most money,
and your previous experience from the limit tables will be the
major reason for being able to do so from the very
beginning.
I
can not tell you all the details of odds and rights or wrongs
to this or that situation, that takes a lifetime of experience
and reading to learn, but by following these guidelines your
start at the real money poker table should be going far
smoother than my own start did.
-
The
best way for you to transfer money to and from the poker and
your bank account will be by using the online bank service
NETELLER. You will find this service at http://www.neteller.com
Make
sure to add all user data exactly the same way as you are
registered at your bank. This will prevent you from running
into problems when withdrawing the money you have
won.
-
I
don't know how much money I have spent to gain my level of
playing skill, but I will give you the benefit of the
knowledge gained from my mistakes here, all for free. The only
thing I would ask as a favour back from you is that if you are
happy about the advice I have been giving you and if you see
that this information has been a help for you then please
write a few lines about this website in a poker information board or send
a link in a mail to a friend. Because when I see this website
visitors' counter is going up then I will know that my advice
is helping people out.
Thank you very much for taking the time
to read my Limit Holdem Poker advice.
