"simple" explanation of baseball
This is a game played by two teams, one out the other in. The one that's in, sends players out one at a time, to see if they can get in before they get out. If they get out before they get in, they come in, but it doesn't count. If they get in before they get out it does count.
When the ones out get three outs from the ones in before they get in without being out, the team that's out comes in and the team in goes out to get those going in out before they get in without being out.
When both teams have been in and out nine times the game is over. The team with the most in without being out before coming in wins unless the ones in are equal. In which case, the last ones in go out to get the ones in out before they get in without being out.
The game will end when each team has the same number of ins out but one team has more in without being out before coming in.

MABS announces schedule for Winter Tournament.
Malta Baseball & Softball Association announced the dates for the annual Winter Tournament. This year’s tournament will feature reigning National Champions Mellieha Northenders together with the 2 other teams based in Malta Gzira Mustangs and Zabbar Devils.
Games will take place at Marsa Baseball Ground on the 8 and 12 of December 2009 with the follow Fixture:

This will be a good opportunity for Team Managers to set and fine tune their respective tactics as teams normally use the tournament as pre season warm-up prior to the start of the 2010 National Championship which should start in February.
Softball League Continuation
On Sunday 29 November the battle for the 2009 Softball Co Ed league will continue at the Marsa Baseball & Softball ground when the three teams will meet again for their second round commitments. On a very positive note for the Maltese Softball Movement a fourth team has recently joined the Association. The new team Panthers will be playing some exhibition games next Sunday in the adjacent football field.

The 2nd point was the most important regarding the start of our next leagues season, All the league must start by next end of September, beginning of October, so by End of April the MG will start work for a long project with a definitive solution for our field that will take between 1 to 2 months each year in 2009 / 2010 / 2011
Training sessions have to restart twice a week so we’ll be fit again for the season.
Saturdays @ 16.00 and Wednesdays @ 17.00

This Saturday saw the start of the National Baseball League as reigning champs Mellieha Northenders took on the Devils for the opening game of the season.Starting pitcher for Mellieha, Marlon Borg struck out the Devils’ offence with 11 pitches in the top of the first inning, after which the Northenders got to go through their whole line-up at the plate.
Devils’ pitcher John Farrugia, starting in his first game ever at this position, couldn’t seem to
settle down and was substituted after facing the first five batters of Mellieha’s line-up, Silvan Bussutil faired slightly better and after a walk settled down quickly to end the inning. However the damage was done and Mellieha started off the 2nd Inning with a 6 run lead. More of the same followed in the 2nd inning when Borg struck out two Devils and eliminated another on a soft-hit ground ball to the mound.
Unfortunately Bussutil couldn’t limit the damage during the bottom of the 2nd and after suffering 9 runs and only eliminating 2 batters he had to surrender the mound to Giancarlo Tolu, who finally closed the game when he struck out the fifth batter he faced.
In a game that ended with a score of 18-0 it was obvious that it was the Northender’s experience that won against a team, who although are improving considerably, still have a lot to learn on the field of play.
