(Successor to the Hoginwood Light Railway)

Welcome to the website of the Bellaria, Alpine & Northern five inch gauge garden railway. The railway is the successor to my original Hoginwood Light Railway and I am hopefully building on experience gained from that project in the construction of the new line in our garden. The original Hoginwood website will remain via the link at the top of this page and contains some background information about me and my interest in this hobby.

The BA&N follows the same principles as the HLR did. The gauge is still five inches (127mm) and I will be sticking with narrow gauge practices and a modelling scale of two and a half inches to the foot. There are however some changes to construction techniques and permanent way materials.

We bought our house in February of 2007 and moved in during June of the same year. The garden comprises a total of 1800 square metres (just under half an acre) and the BA&N will operate on a minimum curve radius of 15 feet (4.57 metres) and a ruling gradient of 1 in 40 (2.5%).
