Duluth, Minnesota
9/25/03,anon email,Find superior street in downtown duluth and you will find some great
friendly folk. this is also where the public library is. you can also
find (the name is slipping on me) the touristy area which is only a few
blocks away but you gotta get over the big pedestrian bridge over lake
superior... i think this street is called "lake avenue". there are great
places to camp in duluth too: off of the boardwalk on lake ave or you can
go to 4th street and hang a right (superior and 4th street) and go down to
where it dead ends... hang another right and you will see some abandoned
passenger train cars... now you will see a tiny creek to your left ...
follow the creek to the left underneath the interstate overpass and climb
over the right side of the retaining wall and you are in "graffiti
graveyard", this is a good place to stash your gear in the rafters and to
look at crazy graffiti. people do come down here and tag pretty often but
they won't bother you if you just let them know you are down there
sleeping. also if you are riding trains out of superior and need a ride to
minneapolis on BNSF you should go to 40th and tower and find the trailer
park and cut through the woods to the departure tracks ... 10am daily to
minneapolis/northtown yard... and for union pacific you will want to take
a bus to Itasca (from downtown Duluth) and get off when you see the choo
choo bar and grill on your right... you can wait behind there but i
wouldn't burn out that spot if i were you... or you can wait down further
in the bushes towards the yard office ... train to chicago around 3am and
a train to minneapolis/des moines/kansas city (and sometimes st. louis)
around 9pm-midnight... it should be on the track closest to the bar but
sometimes it isn't (and it always doubles over).
