Lower Canada

Hello again! Welcome to the page where we start talking to you about Lower Canada (Quebec). Even though Lower Canada (Quebec) and Upper Canada (Ontario) were really close to each other they really had a difference between each other. Here's the tricky and hard part to figure out. Even though right now on a map you see that Quebec is higher drawn than Ontario, why do you think they called Quebec Lower Canada and why do you think they called Ontario Upper Canada. I will now tell you. The reason why they called Queebec Lower Canada and Ontario Upper Canada was because of the land elevation. Quebec's (Lower Canada) land elevation was was lower than Ontario's (Upper Canada) land elevation which is was higher than Quebec's land elevation.

Lower Canada had a large population increase compared to Upper Canada's population. Lower Canada's Population first started out as 250 000 and then went all the way to 717 000 people! WOW! That was an extremely large population increase for Lower Canada. How did the population get so high? Well you're about to find out. The reason why Lower Canada's population got so high was because of the high birth rate they had among the french speaking people who lived in Lower Canada in that area. They Practically had a population EXPLOSION!

Changes to Lower Canada
There were 3 major changes in Lower Canada between the War of 1812 and the
Rebellions of 1837.The war of 1812 and The Rebellions of 1837 changed the popluation
explosion and the timber trade, which affected both Upper and Lower Canada.

                                            Unrest in Lower Canada

The Unrest in Lower Canada is basically about rivarly with French-speaking
people and the English-speaking people. Which leads into "Wolfred Nelson" vs
"Louis Joseph Papineau", because "Wolfred Nelson" is on the Canadian side and
"Louis Joseph Papineau" is on the french side. Another problem was the "Chateau
Clique"(means to have a small group of powerful people).

                                             Government in Lower Canada

Government in Lower Canada is basically about the power of the
elected Legislative Assembly and how it was limted by the governor and the concils.
The Governor was English-speaking so they spoke English.
