Ahoy Matey!
Since the release of the movie "Pirates Of The Caribbean" there has become a huge interest in life on the high seas. I've created this site so that you may learn more about the famous and infamous pirates throughout history, but please take note that I have not copied or taken any information from the movie "Pirates Of The Caribbean", I have done my own research for this site. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me (but no spam please!) at southern_belle_1865@yahoo.com.

I sees that you've decided to visit my vessel (well, my site)

so allow me to tell you a little about myself. I am 21 years old and i live in the birthplace of John Henry "Doc" Holliday,  which is in Griffin, Georgia. I also am a Civil War reenactor and a public speaker,(click here to visit my Civil War site!) but find life on  the high seas just as interesting! Hope you enjoy the site and happy plundering!

Other Pirate Plunders

*The Pirates "Code""

Pirates didn't have special codes or laws to go by. The rules and regulations that they followed were laid down by the captain of the vessel they were on. Pirates didn't have rules officially set, hence the name "pirate". What ever the captain ordered, they did, or didn't do.

*Walking The Plank*

Although Hollywood has made it seem like making a victim walk the plank was an everyday ordeal, it wasn't. There is only one case of anyone walking the plank....ever.

*The Appearance Of A Pirate*

When constructing the physical being of a pirate, you must keep in mind their life style. A pirate led a rough life out on the high seas. Their teeth were not pearl-white, in fact, the teeth that they still had were probably a nasty yellowish color, and I'm sure a few were black. They didn't have the chance to brush their teeth like we do today. Due to a shortage of fruits while aboard, many contracted gum disease and Scurvy, which caused rotten teeth and gums, not to mention the  loss of teeth.

Pirates were known for stealing and plundering, so the clothes that they wore didn't always fit. Their clothes became tatterd and torn due to  the rough work that had to be done on a ship. They couldn't always bathe, their hygiene habits were quite different from ours. When they would dock, and decided to steal from others, they would take household goods, like soap, to keep then going while onboard. Amongst other items stolen were anchors and rope to  keep their vessels sea-worthy.
