1595 Geneva Bible Facsimile page

The Geneva Bible was a Bible of firsts.... It was the first English Bible with our modern Chapter and verse divisions, it was born out of persecution when Queen Mary 1 known otherwise as "Bloody Mary" decided she would return England from the Protestant Bibles of Henry VIII back to the Latin Bible.
It was the first English Bible to be translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, it has copious side notes and was widely circulated and accepted by the average man. More editions were printed of the Geneva Bible than all preceeding Bibles.This is a Facsimile page of one of our originals and comes ready to frame.

King James 1625 Bible Leaf - Jeremiah 47 -

The printing of the 1625 Bible is a story in itself. It was printed on a moveable type printing press, but complied by staff who were mostly illiterate and hence earned a lower wage, as a means of cutting the printing costs. The get around the compilers illiteracy the printer would print the first word of the next page at the bottom of each previous  page allowing them to simply recognise the matching words. (See image below). This is a facsimile sheet of one of our originals and comes with a backing sheet ready for mounting.

Stephanus 1544 Hebrew Bible Page

Stephanus, other wise known as Robert Estienne a 15th cenury printer in Paris, was the first to print the Bible in the modern verse division. He was appointed official producer of the Hebrew and Greek Bible to the King of France, along with many other achievements. He produced a Latin Thesaurus, and after fleeing to Geneva to escape persecution produced a french Bible, a Latin Bible with glosses and many of Calvin's writings to print. This is a facsimile copy of our original miniature Bible page. It comes with a backing sheet ready for framing.

The Great Bible -1569-Facsimile

A Facsimile full size copy of the Great Bible produced by J.Caewood in 1569. It was the first authorised Bible by Henry VIII of England and was intended for reading in the Church of England. It was prepared by Myles Coverdale under the supervision of Sir Thomas Cromwell.

We are building a resource base on the History and Development of Writing, and what seemed appropriate was to offer some fascinating collectibles from the past. From Dip pens from those early school days ( ie for those of us over 55 years of age!) to writing materials, inkwells and other writing memorabilia, not to mention our huge range that is already available on our other pages...See our Interactive Papyrus page.

In the future we plan to do Interactive Workshops on "the History of Writing - 5000 years of writing!"

These will be in the Hunter Valley initially.
