HISTORICAL TOUR 

A First Time Tour of the Dallas Hispanic Communities Historical Sites

 

Bus to loaded at 9:00 and left the Hotel at 9:10  Friday morning

Mr. Lee Sanchez takes care of El Rancho Cemetery and was an instigator to have the Historical Marker awarded.

Rancho Grande Cemetery - Mexican Americans who worked in the Rancho Grande Ranch are buried here - It has been declared a historical site.

St Mary's now a school

Jesse Tafalla (close to the Marker) was the organizer of the Tour and is President of the Dallas Mexican Amercian Historical League.

Mr. Martinez's (Center) family is buried in Cemento Cemetery.  He headed the campaign to make this cemetery a Historical Site. Conference attendees Crispin Rendon and Dr. Eliud Martinez are left to right.

PECAN ROOM

  Pictures of the past displayed by Dallas Mexican-American Historical League

Mission: Dedicated to preserving the historical significance of the Mexican-American heritage and recognizing their contributions to the Dallas area.

Purpose: To document the history of Mexican-American in Dallas, Texas through:

                   Audio, visual and written documentation

             Collection of photos, articles and artifacts

                          To recognize Mexican-American veterans

                   To recognize civic and public leaders

 

Exhibit of picture Depicting Mexican-American from 1907 to 1970

 

·         An exhibit on the lives of Mexican-Americans in Dallas from 1907 to1970 will be on display during the conference.  This exhibit pays homage to Mexican-American barrios' history such as the first settlers in segregated areas and the ways their work ethic distinguished them to the military and music, labor on highways, railways and in factories.

·         The pictures are the collections of the Dallas Mexican-American Historical League
