John Cusack and Hilary Duff will team for writer/director Mark Roper's SF film Talking to Dog.

Described as a cross between Mad Max and Blue Velvet, the Remstar Distribution movie is set in two small communities in a post-apocalyptic future in which humans have suffered from global warming and women have lost the ability to have children. A young man arrives with the ability to communicate with the dead and learn the secrets of the past.

The film is set to shoot before mid-year and will also star Rodrigo Santoro, Tom Conti, Joe Anderson, Lance Henriksen and Steven Berkhoff. Alan Robinson and Neil Dunn produce.

DUFF AND MADDEN SPLIT BECAUSE OF STALKER?

LATEST: HILARY DUFF and JOEL MADDEN's recent split came after the rocker refused to take threats a stalker made against his girlfriend seriously, according to US reports. The pop star, 19, and the GOOD CHARLOTTE rocker, 27, originally blamed the split on their age difference, but other factors behind the break-up have now come to light. Earlier this month (NOV06), police arrested a man who is allegedly obsessed with Duff and had threatened to harm her. A source tells American publication Us Weekly, "Hilary has been so freaked out about it, but Joel didn't think it was as big of a deal. They fought about it all the time. He wants less drama."

DUFF AND MADDEN SPLIT?

HILARY DUFF and GOOD CHARLOTTE rocker JOEL MADDEN have ended their relationship, according to media reports in the US. Madden made a guest DJ appearance at Chicago, Illinois club Enclave on Wednesday (22NOV06) night and openly talked about his newly-single status. According to the Chicago Tribune, Madden told fellow clubbers Duff broke up with him about ten days ago. He cited their eight-year age difference as the source of the problems in their relationship. Duff is 19, while Madden is 27. The LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS singer didn't seem to let the split get to him - he was seen mingling and taking pictures with ladies until the early hours of the morning. Last month (OCT06), the pair filed for a restraining order against two men, alleging they were stalking the teen singer/actress.

DUFF PRAISES BULGARIAN EATING HABITS

Singer/actress HILARY DUFF has fallen in love with Bulgaria - thanks to the quality fruit and vegetables on offer. Duff, who is currently filming in the Eastern European country with JOHN CUSACK, was impressed by the Bulgarians' attitude towards fresh organic food. She says, "They really love salads! "I like it a lot because, since Bulgaria doesn't use pesticides, their vegetables are super fresh. "In America, an apple can last a week because of preservatives and pesticides, but in Bulgaria, after a day or two, it will be old."

MAN JAILED AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING TO KILL DUFF

LATEST: An 18-year-old Russian immigrant has been jailed after threatening to kill singer-turned-actress HILARY DUFF. Alleged stalker MAKSIM MIAKOVSKY was arrested on Friday (03NOV06) at the Residence Inn hotel in Manhattan Beach, California. He was later booked on charges of making criminal threats and stalking, according to entertainment news website TMZ.com. According to sources, a private investigator from Sunset Protective Services contacted Miakovsky at the hotel and he stated his intention of killing Duff on Sunday (05NOV06) at an event she was scheduled to attend. Last month (OCT06), Duff and her boyfriend, GOOD CHARLOTTE singer JOEL MADDEN, requested a restraining order, alleging that Miakovsky "has stated his intention of 'removing' his 'enemies' (other potential suitors), has stated his intention of purchasing a weapon, and has threatened to kill himself and to engage in dramatic actions to get her attention." Legal papers filed by Duff state that Miakovsky came to the US "for the sole purpose of meeting and becoming romantically involved with Ms Duff". Miakovsky is currently being held on $200,000 (GBP111,000) bail at the Manhattan Beach jail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow (07NOV06).
