Hilary Duff may be the proof that nice girls really can finish first. In an age when the formerly virginal Britney Spears gets a quickly annulled Vegas marriage, one-half of the Olsen twins is in rehab and Lindsay Lohan jiggles her way through every tawdry party in town, Duff looks a lot like the teen antidote to puerile pop culture. While many young stars have tried to distance themselves from any kind of "goodie-goodie" persona, Duff, 16, is content being the entertainment world's "normal" girl - the 2004 Annette Funicello.

Duff uses Olsen to blast teen pressure

Teen singer Hilary Duff has blamed the intense pressure heaped on young stars for causing TV rival Mary Kate Olsen's battle with anorexia. At 16, Duff is two years younger than Olsen - who last month checked into a clinic to be treated for the eating disorder - but the So Yesterday star can already empathise with her, because she's fully aware of the demands forced on rising talents to look glamorous. She says: "It's the pressures put on young celebrities. "You open a magazine and it's all about someone being too skinny or too fat, no longer pretty, having the wrong hair colour or not making it into the most recent popularity poll. "(I don't) pretend to know what Mary Kate is going through, but I can understand a bit of it on a certain level. "As a young celebrity, there are times when you feel your life is being controlled by so many other things that eating is the last thing you really do have some control over." But she has assured fans she will never succumb to anorexia: "I love food too much. I eat sensibly, but I do love to eat."

Hilary Duff Extends Concert Tour

Even before she steps onstage next week at the Centrum Centre in Worcester, Massachusetts, the "Summer of Hilary Duff" will already be under way — and it's about to last even longer, as the singer has announced another month's worth of dates. Duff kicks off a six-week summer tour on July 20, just days after her latest movie, "A Cinderella Story," opens in theaters. The soundtrack to that movie hit stores Tuesday (July 13) and features four new Duff songs, including the duet with her older sister, Haylie, "Our Lips Our Sealed." ET's MARIA MENOUNOS chatted with America's teen sweetheart about several hot topics, like dating, driving, and the most important one of all -- has Hilary found her own real-life Prince Charming? "No, I have not," she says, smiling. "I don't know if I should be looking ... I'm always working. I'm not closing all the doors, but I'm not out there looking. I don't really even know the type of guy I'm into either ... I'm learning I guess." Hilary also admitted that dating is extra tough in the spotlight: "It's really hard to have a private life. You go grab coffee with a friend and all the sudden you are dating them!" One thing the single gal isn't missing out on is kissing -- she gets to smooch a lot with her "very cute" co-star CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY ("One Tree Hill") in the movie: "It was the third day of us working together. It was so embarrassing." Hilary adds that she really enjoyed working with Chad because he is "really nice and normal." Substituting for a love interest at the moment is Hilary's brand-new car (she recently got her license!). The new driver says she loves the freedom that her hot wheels give her. "I can go to the beach ... I can drive everywhere! I don't even mind if I'm in traffic. I'll sit there and listen to music." In her CD rotation -- BLINK-182, NORAH JONES and EMINEM! Back to the fairy tale at hand, in this version of the classic story, the former 'Lizzie McGuire' star's character moves in with her stepfamily after her father dies, "which is very hard on her." "And she has to work at the diner that her dad used to own that her evil stepmother has taken over," says Hilary. "She lives in this life where she feels like she doesn't fit in. She has goals, but she just never believes she can ever accomplish them because of her horrible family situation. [But] she overcomes that in the end and meets her Prince Charming." That prince is played by hunky Chad, but instead of finding Hilary's glass slipper, he instead finds -- her cell phone? "My Prince Charming and I meet through a text message and through the Internet at school," she explains. "So he finds my cell phone and puts posters around the school and tries to find me." Christina's Road Report: ACS Premiere

I know, I know! The road report isn't supposed to offically start until the 19th. But, I had to start it early because I have to tell you guys about the "Cinderella Story" premiere, which happened on the 10th of July @ the Mann's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. This was so much fun!! Instead of a red carpet it was a pink carpet, it was the cutest thing I ever saw. Hilary looked great. She wore a white lace skirt with a matching off the shoulder top and a pair of gold shoes, that were to die for! There were stars like baseball great Jose Conseco, Heather Locklear and her husband Richie Sambora; who is the guitarist in BonJovi, Jason Ritter and not to mention Hilary's costar Chad Michael Murray. On the carpet, Hilary and Chad had a million interviews. I overheard Hilary and Chad talking about how crazy and exciting everything was. They couldn't believe how many people came out to support them. Once we were in the theatre Hilary sat in the middle of the theatre with Haylie and all their friends. Chad sat in the row infront of Hilary with his friends. While we were waiting for the movie to start a few of Hilary's new songs which are on the "Cinderella Story" soundtrack began to play. **DONT FORGET... the soundtrack is released and in stores tomorrow(Tuesday) July 13th!! O.K, so, when Hilary and Haylie's song, "Our Lips are Sealed" began to play everyone began to sing along it was so funny. Then, when the movie started everyone in the theatre started to clap and whistle when Hilary and Chad's name appeared on the screen. The movie was so cute! I loved it! It is the classic story of Cinderella and her quest to find her "prince charming". Of course, it had it's own little twist to the story, which made it funny. When the movie was over Hilary received a standing ovation for her performance. Once Hilary received all her congratulations from her friends she headed for the after party, which was at the club "Highlands" located directly across from the theatre. Once we were there we were all hungry, especially Hilary because she hadn't eaten all day. It was alot of fun, everyone was dancing and joking around. Hilary's bodyguard, Troy, was hilarious. He was dancing with his daughters and telling jokes. Hilary was able to meet many of the kids from the charity "Kids With a Cause". She told me how being able to actually meet some of the kids really touched her. She was so happy that she could put a smile on their faces. It started to get late and Hilary was tired and excited because she had an early flight to catch. She was leaving to go to Nashville to rehearse for her first big concert tour of the U.S. We are all proud of the movie and we can't wait to see what everyone else thinks about it. Why did you quit Lizzie McGuire? It's not like it was my choice. I was going through what Lizzie was going through — that teenager stage where you don't really know who you are. It was a good thing for me, but I worked my butt off. Everybody made a big deal out of it, like it was this horrible split. So the rumors that your mom was a stage mom... I love my mom. I totally look up to her, and she just doesn't let anybody take advantage of me. People might call that a stage mom. Lindsay Lohan joked about you on Saturday Night Live, and Avril Lavigne called you a mommy's girl. What gives? Honestly? I couldn't even tell you. With Lindsay Lohan, I don't think she likes me very much. With Avril Lavigne, her CD is in my car right now. You know what I did? I said something I shouldn't have said. It's not so sweet being 16 when the only time you're legally allowed to hook up with hotties ages 18 and up is in the movies. That's the bizarre life of Hilary Duff, who seemingly should be about 25 by now but doesn't even turn 17 until Sept. 28. Saturday afternoon at the premiere for A Cinderella Story (opening in theaters Friday), Duff, wearing gold stilettos and a super-short glittery skirt and with bright pink glossy lips, once again was put in the position of having to deny her latest reported canoodling — this time with Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, 25. "Everybody talks so much stuff," Duff said on the Grauman's Chinese Theatre's pink carpet. "I can't have a boyfriend right now. And I'm definitely not interested in him. I think his band is cool, and we're friends, but we walk down the street together one time and all of a sudden we're like a couple." A year ago, Duff sparked whispers of a romance with her Cinderella Story Prince Charming, Chad Michael Murray, 22, when the two were seen holding hands at the Freaky Friday premiere. Asked whether a romance developed off the set, Cinderella Story director Mark Rosman said, "You'll have to ask them." Both, naturally, denied it. "It would be a huge scandal," Duff conceded. Rosman offered an account of rehearsing the co-stars' make-out session: "I needed Hilary to get over the nervousness, because Chad's a bit older, so I brought them into my trailer and told them, 'Start kissing — just kiss, kiss, kiss.' Then I left them alone to work on it for another 20 minutes or so, and when we finally filmed it again, it was great." Said Murray: "It was one of the weirder situations I've been put into in film." The actor's date was Sophia Bush, 22, his One Tree Hill WB co-star and real-life fiancée. Duff brought her older sister, actress/singer Haylie Duff, 19, who said she and Hil will be starring in their own concert tour "reality" series — as animated characters. In two weeks, Haylie will release her next single, Screwed, and says she has blocked Paris Hilton from attempting to release the same song. "Paris has talked to the people who wrote the song, and I think it's all under control now," Haylie said. Among the guests who declined to wear masks to the Masquerade Ball after-party: Jason Ritter and 8 Simple Rules' Amy Davidson. Both are prepping themselves for Sept. 11, which will be the one-year anniversary of the death of Jason's dad, and Amy's TV dad, John Ritter. "It will be the first one, so no ritual has been established yet," said Ritter, who regularly visits his father's grave. Davidson said she has not yet visited Ritter's grave but imagines she'll find herself there on the anniversary. "I don't know where else to spend that day."

Interview With Kelly on "Raise Your Voice" credit: Hilaryonline.net Just a couple of days ago Noel was lucky enough to be able to ask Kelly a couple of questions about Hilary's upcoming movie "Raise Your Voice". Now, how does Kelly know about the movie you ask? Well, she was involved in a special screening of "Raise Your Voice". That is where a selected group of people get to watch a movie before it is out or official edited. That means they may still change things about the movie before it comes out. Thank you and enjoy!!! :) Noel: Whats the plot of the movie "Raise Your Voice"? Kelly: Basically, the school year ends and it is the beginning of summer. Terri (played by Duff) has already sent in an application for this performing arts school in Los Angeles, but her father is very protective of her and doesn't want her leaving home. Her brother (played by Ritter) is very supportive of her aspirations and during the summer he video records her singing at home, messing around at the piano, being a vibrant girl, etc. and mails it to the performing arts academy. Shortly thereafter, Terri and her brother sneak out of the house and attend a Three Days Grace concert (she got the tickets for her brother as a surprise). As they are driving home, having a good time listening to the band's CD, their car is struck by a drunk driver. All we see are the bright headlights of the approaching car and the next scene begins with Terri in her hospital bed. As she is waking up her mother is at her side and tells her what had happened. Throughout the film, whenever Terri sees bright lights she is taken back to that dreadful day in her mind. Time passes and we see the struggles the family is having at home coping with the loss of Terri’s brother. Terri is not the same girl she was before. One day she walks out to the mail to find a letter from the Los Angeles performing arts academy. She opens it to discover she has been accepted. She initially does not want to go anymore, due to the current circumstances, but her mom and aunt are supportive of her going. Her mom and aunt work together to come up with a cover story to tell Terri’s father. They tell her father that she will be spending some time with her aunt in the desert (Palm Desert I believe), so her father agrees and Terri takes a bus to Los Angeles. Terri arrives at Union Station (has her jacket stolen while she puts her luggage in a cab) and takes a cab to the academy. It is late at night and when she arrives at the academy it is closed. She is standing at the front door with all her bags when Jay (played by James) lets her inside. She locates her room and finds out that her roommate Denise is very serious about winning the scholarship that is given out to the best performance at the end of each summer. The rest of the movie revolves around Terri and her ups and downs at the performing arts school as she finds friends, romance, hardship, and happiness to say the least. There are also obstacles outside of the school as she struggles to hide the truth from her father. I don’t want to give much more away…so here are some questions that pertain to the latter half of the film… Will her father find out that he has been lied to and that she is really in Los Angeles? Will she win the scholarship? What will happen between her and Jay? Will she finally be at peace with herself and the reality of her brother’s death? Noel: How old is Hilary's character in the movie? Kelly: Hm...i don't believe it specifically said her age...just that it was between two of her high school years Noel: Did the people ever give you guys a release date on the movie? Kelly: No, i think someone asked during the focus group, but they weren't sure. the people said they were not associated with the film...they wanted unbiased people to do the screening and such. Noel: What would you rate the movie from 1-10. One being really bad and ten being a great movie for everyone. Kelly: That was actually one of the questions on the survey i filled out... I believe I gave it a 9...I would have said 8.5, but they only had whole numbers on the form. Noel: How long would you guess the movie is? Kelly: About an hour and 40 minutes...could change though for the final cut...I thought it was a good length and it flowed well. Noel: Would you consider this a different side of Hilary's acting? Since mainly she has done comedy's and not so serious roles? Kelly: I would definitely say yes. It was completely dramatic to the point where there was no comedy, but it was nice to see her playing a more dramatic role. There is comedy and romance, which we have seen her do already (or will in A Cinderella Story), but this film requires more of her...there are times in the film (including one breakdown) where I really felt for Terri. I thought it was very good that although I saw "Hilary" a lot of the time when Terri was singing, during the more dramatic scenes, I forgot that I was watching Hlary and she really became the character Terri. Noel: Would you recomend this film to children under the age of 12? Or is it to mature for them? Kelly: I think its hard to say...hopefully parents will know what their children are comfortable with. There were quite a few children under the age of 12 in the audience, afterwards some had no problem with the film and some thought it was too intense at times. I would safely say that it is fine for the 12 and over crowd, probably most of the 10 and over crowd and even age 7 or 8, because there were a few in the screening. it really depends on the child...the crash scene is a little intense, there are a few references that will probably go over their heads, and alcohol use.. but it is all in context. I would say 12 is a safe estimate for a good age. Noel: Would you say it is a good movie for adults? Like over the age of 30? Kelly: I think that parents that go with their children will enjoy the film. I think the 20-25 crowd might enjoy it, but it definitely wasn't geared toward the over 25 audience. It is a more mature film, but I could tell when watching that they were careful to not ignore the fact that she has younger fans who will want to watch the film. Noel: What is your guess the rating of the movie will be? Or did they tell you? (Rating as in R, PG, PG13, or G) Kelly: They weren't completely sure. I'm sure they are debating between a PG and PG 13 rating... the language, alcohol use, subject matter (brother's death) and inuendo (very few references) might get it a PG 13 rating. I know one mom walked out with her young daughter during the film because she didn't think it was appropriate, the daughter was 7 or 8. Noel: Was there anything you disliked about the film? Kelly: Nothing I really disliked...the ending was cool, but Terri's performance was really long in comparison to the other students who performed and it seemed like a Hilary concert. lol. Nice for Hilary fans, but I'm sure people who aren't fans of Hilary just wanted her song to end. it was a little bit predictable, but not to the point that it wasn't surprising. :) Keep in mind...it could be edited by the time it comes out. Noel: Will you go see it again when it comes out? Kelly: Yep...I really want to see how the final version turns out in comparison to what I saw. Globe magazine reports that when Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden and his underaged galpal Hilary Duff were strolling near the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto, a fan asked if they'd pose for a photo. "Sure, I don't mind," Hilary said, but Joel had second thoughts. "Maybe later," he shouted, then grabbed Duff by the arm and took off running with her down the street.

A Streaker Spoils Hilary Duff's Wild Party

The Enquirer reports Haylie and Hilary Duff hosted a wild party at their home in Los Angeles while their mother and father were out of town. It got so loud that neighbors threatened to phone the cops, and did when a young man streaked around the property completely naked. After a neighbor told the Duffs that cops were headed their way, the girls cleared out the house.

A Few things about A Cinderella Story with Behind the Scenes Interviews

We all remember the story from our childhoods. Poor orphaned Cinderella, forced to carry water from the well and sweep the dirt floors of her evil step-mother?s dreary cottage every day while dreaming of a handsome prince who would rescue her from her life of toil to go live in his drafty old castle. Very medieval. Plus, there was a fairy godmother sprinkling pixie dust, a pumpkin morphing into a golden coach and a lot of talking mice. Okay? and this relates to real life, how But wait What if its 2004 and our princess-in-the-rough is a high school senior like Sam Montgomery, and instead of chopping wood for the family hearth shes bussing tables and scrubbing the linoleum floors of her heartless step-mothers tacky 50s diner after school and running errands for her nasty, spoiled step-sisters. What if shes not looking for a handsome prince, per se (not that shes opposed to the idea), but studying for the SATs and dreaming of Princeton and her future beyond the San Fernando Valley And what if, instead of magic pumpkins and chatty rodents, she gets one very cool, no-nonsense fairy godmother who encourages this modern Cinderella to find the strength within to be herself and realize the kind of life that, well, fairy tales are made of Producer Clifford Werber, who originated and developed the idea of a smart, contemporary Cinderella story with comedic parallels to the classic,notes that the enduring appeal of the original is its heart and soul, the ultimate wish-fulfillment fantasy and an underlying message of empowerment. In that sense its as relevant today as when it was first introduced. Without losing any of the storys time-honored elements, A Cinderella Story transports the action to a suburban high school, where, appropriately enough, most young people first begin to grapple with the issues of identity, loyalty and integrity the Cinderella tale traditionally touches upon. Lest that sound a bit solemn, fear not, as Werber attests: First and foremost, its a comedy. Werber, whose Hollywood career includes tenure as a film executive at both Warner Bros. Pictures and 20th Century Fox through the 80s and 90s, has worked on films across a range of genres from Home Alone and Grand Canyon to Braveheart, Trainspotting and My Dog Skip, but found himself happily breaking new ground as a producer on A Cinderella Story. Having always been on the other side of the fence, Id never been involved with a film completely from start to finish, he says, good-naturedly adding that one of the films messages offortitude, and sticking with your instincts, could easily apply to a producers job. It helped that he was collaborating with an old friend, producer Dylan Sellers, whose expertise was invaluable. When my young daughter (a huge Hilary Duff fan) approved the script, I knew I was doing the right thing, offers Sellers, also a studio executive-turned-producer, who recently produced the hit Cody Banks films. Describing A Cinderella Story, he says, The issues are very much high school. The characters are teenagers and the writing is cool and edgy but its still a classic love story and that has always transcended the age of the characters and the time theyre living in. Whether its Youve Got Mail or Romeo and Juliet, its irresistible to see the understanding grow between two people who are from opposite ends of a spectrum or perceive themselves to be very different from one another. Werbers first choice to write the screenplay, Leigh Dunlap, wrote from his initial pitch and, he says, brought back a story and characters with exactly the right voice and a sense of uniqueness. The opportunities for comedy just popped off the page. Im still a teenager at heart, admits Dunlap, a former Valley Girl and USC Cinema student now married and raising a son in London. I dont think you ever lose that feeling of being in high school. Its amazing how those four years can stay with you through all the years that follow. As Werber recalls, he and director Mark Rosman did a lot of research prior to production. We went to high schools in the Valley, both public and private, to talk to the kids because we wanted to be sure this movie spoke to them. We saw what they were wearing, what kind of music theyre listening to, and in the process we confirmed an integral theme of the film that so many people wear figurative masks of one sort or another. Theres a point where the Austin character, writing anonymously to Sam, says something about how the world is full of people pretending to be something they?re not. Hes a high school football hero whos under parental and peer pressure to pursue a certain kind of future and would rather take another path. So many of the kids we spoke to were aware of being judged for how they looked, how they dressed, what peer group they belonged to, and in general they felt the need to hide their inner lives from this kind of scrutiny, notes Rosman, who employed this mask motif throughout the film. Austin is only able to reveal his true character when hiding behind a chat room alias. Sam, of course, is seen wearing a mask, literally, at the Halloween ball, but her real mask is the one that hides her true power and beauty from everyone every single day. Sams friend Carter is an aspiring actor and dresses in a variety of outlandish costumes to avoid having to be himself. Even Sams step-mother, a cosmetic surgery addict, is always undergoing some procedure she hopes will make her beautiful. For producer Hunt Lowry, exploring these issues is what movie-making is all about. In recent years he has been involved in the production of a number of films, both comedy and drama, that feature young people in the process of growing up, discovering themselves and emerging as stronger, wiser adults (films such as A Walk to Remember, White Oleander, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, What A Girl Wants). One of the great things about life is that we learn from each other and ourselves, he says. I like to see that reflected in movies, especially where, at journeys end, its a positive resolution. Reflecting on his own teen years and on what advice he might like to go back and give his 16-year-old self, Lowry says sagely, Two thoughts guided me on the script, says Dunlap: One, to believe in yourself and not look elsewhere for validation and two, dont be afraid to participate in life. You arent confined by how you look or where you come from or how much money you have. Producer Ilyssa Goodman, who helped develop the Moolah Beach series for Fox and the Family Channel, in which teen teams met physical and mental challenges to compete for a prize, concurs. ?Nearly all the projects I become involved with have underlying themes meant to inspire, empower and entertain kids. There are so many timeless themes in the Cinderella classic to which we can all relate to the underdog scenario, the lesson that slow and steady wins the race and about staying true to yourself. But, I believe the original put too much emphasis on being rescued by a handsome prince. Sam, instead, plays a more active role in her own life and actually serves as an inspiration to Austin. In our story, says Rosman, Cinderella saves herself. Rosman counts among his credits multiple episodes of the phenomenally popular Lizzie Maguire Show, starring Hilary Duff, and it was initially his working rapport with Duff that made him the production's first choice to direct Cinderella. He soon proved the right choice for many reasons. He has a genuine sensibility for the material, notes Sellers, and he's seriously interested in the reality of each scene. Hes very intuitive about all of it and about getting the actors into the right frame of mind. Duff agrees, citing Rosmans focus and tireless attention to detail before boiling down her longtime admiration for the director to three essential and heartfelt words: Hes very cool. The most essential ingredient in this creative mix was, of course, Hilary Duff, whose timely involvement in the project Werber enthusiastically recalls as lightning in a bottle. The effervescent young star, who made her performance debut at six in the BalletMet Columbus touring company of The Nutcracker and now, at 16, balances film and television projects with a burgeoning recording career and concert schedule, was intrigued by A Cinderella Storys modern spin. Having loved the story as a child, Duff believes the original will always have its special appeal to a younger generations imagination, while this version speaks to a more sophisticated age group. It shows what a lot of people go through in high school, which is funny but it can be brutal too,she says. Theres always the popular group and lots of cliques, and so many people trying to be something theyre not or just dont have the freedom to be themselves. A lot of things get complicated and sometimes people get stuck with labels or take on labels that really limit them. I hope that kids who watch it will get the message that they are not alone, that this stuff happens to everyone. At first reading, Hilary Duff realized she had little in common with the Sam character. and thats what piqued her interest in the role. Im nothing like Sam, she reflects. Ive been very lucky. Im a pretty happy person, upbeat, with lots of energy. Im very close with my friends, whereas Sam doesnt have many friends and sometimes feels isolated with her problems. Where she struggles with an unhappy home life and an unsupportive step-mother, my mom and I get along really well. Were like best friends, completely honest with each other. Its a great relationship. Sam doesnt have any of that so she?s sometimes lonely and unsure. ?There were times during filming when I had to ask myself, what would Sam do in this situation, how would she say this because everyone handles their emotions differently. Considering that the powerhouse actress/singer was probably only 10 years old at the time this story was conceived it seems especially serendipitous to all concerned that she was exactly right for the part of Sam when it came time to cast A Cinderella Story. It takes a long time to get a movie from concept to screen,offers Goodman.In the end, this movie was made for Hilary and thanks to the beauty of synchronicity it all worked out. While the details and the individual challenges of their young lives may be poles apart, what Duff shares with Sam is an undeniable resiliency of spirit, immediately apparent to fans, peers and colleagues alike. She radiates determination, spunk and courage as Sam, says Lowry. At the same time, she is very accessible. Watching her, she makes you feel as though you know her and youre rooting for your best friend. As Rosman points out, Duffs ability to connect with fans aptly complements the universality of the story. Cinderella speaks to human emotions; conflict and drama, the hopes and wishes and fears that everyone can relate to, the director posits. Hilary embodies that perfectly. As phenomenally popular as she is, she still seems like a girl you could walk up to and say hello. Shes a real person. Even though shes a big star shes very down-to-earth, very centered, genuinely sweet, and that quality comes through in her performances. If anyone could identify more closely to the Sam/Cinderella character it would be Chad Michael Murray, who takes on the Prince Charming role in the form of Austin Ames captain of the football team, big man on campus and, as Werber puts it, the quintessential high school hottie.Ironically, the charismatic young star of Dawsons Creek, One Tree Hill and the recent hit comedy Freaky Friday admits,I was Sam in high school, Sam the nerd that was me. I had no friends, I used to walk through the halls at school worried about getting slammed into a locker. Thats why its so funny for me to be walking down those hallways again, like high school all over again except that now I get to be the cool guy. Like Duff, Murray saw his character as a stretch, a guy whose life circumstances couldnt have been more different than his own upbringing. Austin looks so perfect in his perfect life. Hes the big football star; hes got the friends, the girls, the popularity, the car. Hes been handed absolutely everything and now hes having his whole future laid out for him. But the interesting thing is that hes not content. None of it is necessarily what he really wants, so he goes through the story battling with his father and his peers. This duality allowed Murray to simultaneously play the public jock and the private person, another aspect of the project that appealed to him.It was a great opportunity to fake the stereotypical jock thing, to play that and yet have an underlying sensitivity and conflict.Theres always a sadness to Austin. Hes so busy being the guy his parents want him to be or his friends want him to be that he cant take a break to figure out what he wants to be. As Rosman puts it, hes a prince who doesnt want to be a prince. ?We were so impressed with Chad, we altered the start date of production to accommodate his TV series schedule Rosman recounts, having found the actor after a lengthy and extensive casting process. Chad is able to bring a sense of maturity to the role while remaining a believable teenager and bringing in the romantic aspect at the same time. Hes a very serious actor with an analytical approach.He and Hilary ended up having great chemistry. It was the stars first time working together and, as luck would have it, the shooting schedule dictated that one of their first scenes together was up-close and personal. We had met but hadnt had much time to talk to each other on the set, Duff recalls, and then maybe the third day of shooting we had this big kissing scene. We barely knew each other, Murray chimes in. It was a big scene, and it had to be raining, so we were being pelted with these big fat drops of fake rain, because regular sized rain doesnt show up well on camera.Im talking quarter-sized drops of water dropping down on us. Imagine a waterfall going over your face and every time you try to breathe while youre kissing, bubbles go up your nose or water goes into your mouth. Fun, right??Everyone was respectful and Chad couldnt have been nicer so it was fine but there was still a whole bleacher full of people watching us, says Duff.Yeah, it was just a little embarrassing but totally worthwhile, as both admit capturing the moment was key.It was really sweet, a great scene and I know that when people watch it theyre not going to care what may have been going on around us, says Murray. But alas, Cinderella must endure a lot of grief on the way to that transcendent kiss and her awful step-mother and step-sisters are on hand to provide it. Lots of it. When asked about casting Jennifer Coolidge as step-mom Fiona, Werber laughs and responds as any 15-year-old might:Hey, its Stiflers mom! in reference to Coolidges memorable performance in the irreverent American Pie movies. Coolidge has built her career on brilliantly comic turns in a variety of indelible roles like Stiflers mom, as manicurist Paulette Bonafonte in the Legally Blonde films and as Sharri Ann Ward Cabot, the trophy wife of a catatonic rich codger in Christopher Guests acclaimed mockumentary Best in Show.Jennifer is amazing in everything shes done, the producer attests. In her hands, says Rosman, the character of Fiona is funny as well as wicked, and even kind of pitiful in her own obnoxious way. Coolidge was happy to take on the role, admitting that shed always yearned to play a villainess. Ive always said in interviews that I want to play someone evil because Ive never had that opportunity and now I got my wish,she says. The most interesting parts to play are evil people.Id like to play lots more of them. Although impervious to emotional growth, Fiona undergoes a severe physical transformation as the story progresses.Initially introduced as a drab and dumpy bespeckled woman in shapeless outfits, she splurges on her image as soon as she gets the cash from her late husbands life insurance and embarks on a complete physical overhaul that includes an eye lift, nose job, plumped lips, implants, colored contact lenses, Botox, liposuction and various assorted procedures that would test the stamina of a rhino.Her ugliness is on the inside, yet she is preoccupied with fixing the outside,observes Coolidge. Caught in full-Fiona costume and makeup on set one day, she told a reporter,the reason I look so hideous in this scene is that I have wires pulling my face back, hidden under my hair. I dont have my real nose or real lips its all plastered on. The problem with prosthetic makeup, Coolidge goes on to explain, is that, you cant eat a sandwich in the middle of the day when you have the fake lips on and you cant stand out in the sun because your nose melts off. Fionas pride and joy are her (fraternal) twin daughters, Gabriella and Brianna, played to whiny conspiratorial perfection by Andrea Avery, in her feature film debut, and Madeline Zima, who made her first television appearance at age 5 and is perhaps best known for her role as Gracie on The Nanny. Fiona has these two terrible girls, says Coolidge,and she has big dreams for them to grow up and become gold-diggers like herself. She tries to pass them off as talented by giving them synchronized swimming lessons. Actually, theyre un-synchronized swimmers, quips Rosman. But of course they think theyre Olympic caliber athletes and terribly cute,all the while theyre bumping into each other and flopping around like fish on gravel, each trying to upstage the other. Were more silly than evil, more like evil wannabes,says Avery, admitting that the talentless twosome often fall short of their desire to be truly hateful. We set Sam up for embarrassment and rag on her and treat her like dirt thats our job. Im the dumber of the two step-sisters,concedes Zima, and I end up being the butt of a couple of jokes in the movie but the truth is, theyre both kind of stupid so its not much of a contest. Regarding the indignities these two troublemakers endure when their schemes go awry, the actresses cheerfully offer some highlights: Lets take a minute and reflect on the things weve been through while shooting this movie, Zima begins. Well, we were waxed. We went through a car wash with actual wash rollers hitting us over and over again in the soapy suds for two days.We got messy and dirty and threw each other around a lot, adds Avery. We had to walk around in a cat suit costume, a torturous thing that only has three legs, with both of us inside. We were planning to burn it when production wrapped. Their favorite scene Id have to say the car wash, says Zima. Definitely, the car wash, Avery concurs. It was fun being all sudsy and having a great cat fight on top of Lincoln Navigators and Jaguars and just to beat them up and not have to worry about paying for any of it. With family like this, it often seems to Sam that everyone is against her but she actually has an important ally in Rhonda, a woman shes known most of her life. A waitress in her fathers diner, now Fionas diner, Rhonda, played by Regina King, has been in the picture for years, watching Sam grow up. The two have logged countless hours working together, their easy rapport making the job go faster. Sam can truly be herself around Rhonda, a luxury she hasnt known since her father was alive. Im always there for her, says King of her character. I have her back, if necessary, but I really want her to come to the realization on her own that she has to stand up for herself in this life. When shes ready to learn that lesson, Im there to help. I guess Rhonda would be the fairy godmother character in the Cinderella story, except that I dont come out in a big dress with a magic wand. King made her feature film debut in John Singletons Oscar-nominated Boyz N The Hood and went on to star in a number of high profile features including Higher Learning, How Stella Got her Groove Back, Mighty Joe Young and last years hit comedy Legally Blonde 2, in which she worked with her Cinderella co-star Jennifer Coolidge. It was her role as Cuba Goodings wife in Cameron Crowes Oscar-nominated Jerry Maguire that first captured the attention of producer Dylan Sellers, who recalls,She was an instantly memorable character great, warm and human and very funny. Ive always wanted to work with her. It may have been the story that attracted her initially but, King admits, she had another, perhaps more compelling reason to join the Cinderella cast.I knew Id be a big hit with my son if I did a movie with Hilary Duff. Meanwhile, with the moment of Rhondas greatest guidance still to come, Sam relies on her best (actually her only) friend Carter to get through the daily grind of high school life where they both exist on the outer edges of the social structure. Carter, played by Dan Byrd of Any Day Now, is an ever-optimistic aspiring drama student and film fan who protects himself by adopting a series of movie and music industry personas some of which even Sam is embarrassed to be seen with. Rounding out the cast is Julie Gonzalo as Shelby, the perfectly coifed, perfectly dressed and perfectly despicable head cheerleader, beauty queen of the school and Austins demanding girlfriend; Shelbys ladies-in-waiting Caitlyn and Madison, played by Kady Cole and Erica Hubbard; plus Brad Bufanda and J.D. Pardo as Austins good-time buddies David and Ryan, who don?t have a clue what hes really like. Kevin Kilner is Austins car-wash-tycoon father Big Andy, determined to push his son into USC football and the family business, in that order; and Whip Hubley makes a brief but significant appearance as Sams loving Dad who gives her some very special words to live by. Sam spends her entire waking life at high school and at her step-moms diner, aside from the tiny attic room in which she sleeps. All of this is part of the Valley World, as is the car wash owned by Austin Ames father, where Brianna and Gabriella frequently hang out in hopes of catching Austins attention even if it means carefully applying grime to their matching Beetles beforehand. In contrast, the hotel ballroom setting for the schools Halloween Homecoming Dance and the breathtakingly romantic grounds outside convey a dreamy, almost luminous quality reminiscent of old Hollywood, complete with a whitewashed gazebo. Here, stealing a moment away from the ball, Sam and Austin seem to cross momentarily into another world. With the help of locations manager Patrick Mignano, the production secured a number of Southern California sites that lent themselves perfectly to Breens thematic framework, starting with the suburban Spanish-style Monrovia High School, where filming coincided with the regular summer session and a number of students appeared as extras in the movie. We dressed the various places where wed be shooting and we did it in about 10 days, says Breen. Its ordinary, a kids world, functional and realistic. The climactic finale on the high schools football field placed more than 200 extras in bleacher seats while the actual Los Angeles University Citrus College football team took the field, playing the parts of Austins high school team The Fighting Frogs as well as their rivals, The Lancers. For the pivotal Halloween Homecoming Dance, where Sam and Austin finally meet, the filmmakers chose the historic Los Angeles Theatre as their venue a gothic and majestic former movie palace in downtown L.A. Its lobby, featuring ornate architecture and a sweeping staircase, made it the perfect spot for Sams dramatic entrance. The lush Huntington Gardens in Pasadena provided the exteriors, where Sam and Austin escape the ball for a little private conversation and a dance under the stars. When you arrive at the dance,Breen continues, its the same kids but in costumes and in this stylish setting with the grand architecture and it becomes a different world. Remaining in the Pasadena area, the production subsequently shot scenes of Sams family home, actually an Alta Dena residence with perfect storybook architecture. Diner exteriors were captured on a busy Long Beach corner, but the inside was built on Stage 22 at the Warner Bros. Studios, as most existing diner-style restaurants are too small to accommodate a film crew. Stage 22 also served as the set for Sams cramped bedroom. Working in concert with Breens overall theme, costume designer Denise Wingate, who previously collaborated with him on Robert Iscoves 1999 comedy Shes All That, outfitted Hilary and her co-stars with an eye toward hip but timeless. In a film like this the fashions have to be contemporary but you dont want to make them dated, she says. I try to avoid trends that I know will be out after a certain amount of time. Taking her cue from her star, the designer acknowledges that,Hilary is such a trendsetter and so accustomed to being in the public eye, she is very much aware of fashion and has certain designers whose work she favors.I was happy to incorporate some of those elements into her wardrobe. As Rosman points out, it was never our intention to make this an ugly duckling story, so there isnt a climactic physical transformation in which she goes from being unattractive to suddenly beautiful. Truth is, shes naturally pretty just as Sam. The idea was that she doesnt believe that shes pretty. She doesnt believe shes smart or that she really has a chance to get what she wants in life. What happens is that she comes to believe those things and thats the transformation. Consequently, says Wingate, her aim was to support Sams progress subtly, using muted colors in the beginning and going just a little bit baggier. As she became more confident we used stronger colors and better fit, to show that she was, in a way, peeling off useless layers. Another symbol of Sams emerging self-confidence was the exquisitely beautiful ball gown she wears at the Halloween Homecoming Dance, in which she meets her cyber soulmate for the first time. This special dress helps make Sams grand entrance and captures the awed attention of all her classmates. (Or, as the jealous Shelby is heard to remark,Love the dress.Hate her.) The gown, a white strapless with a beaded bodice and fairy-tale tulle skirt, comes from the collection of Beverly Hills-based designer Monique Lhuillier, who specializes in wedding and evening gowns known for their elegant simplicity. Wingate credits Susan Duff, Hilarys mother and a co-executive producer on the film, for helping make the selection from a group of photos the designer had assembled.We agreed that it had to be spectacular, says Wingate. When Susan saw this picture of Moniques gown she said thats it, thats the dress and it certainly was. It was perfect, a dress for a princess. Wingate complemented the look with a sparkling white demi-mask to conceal Sams identity from Austin as well as her step-sisters and schoolmates, then set about the awesome task of outfitting hundreds of high schoolers in a wide range of costumes for the ball. After weeks of planning, shopping, fitting, altering and re-fitting, the designer welcomed the opportunity to cut loose with renowned comic actress Jennifer Coolidge while preparing the distinctive wardrobe for her character, Fiona the shape-shifting step-mother. Not only is she hilarious,the designer attests, shes absolutely fearless. She would try anything. I could take her so far out that people kept trying to rein us back in but we were just having so much fun playing into the stereotype of her character and she took it 100 percent. After Fionas extensive liposuction, she invests in a flashy new wardrobe that, Wingate slyly remarks, proves the old adage that just because you have money doesn?t mean you have good taste. Once she made the transformation, says Wingate, she couldnt have been gaudier or flashier. I have never done bad taste so well! It was so bad it was good.

Duff takes credit for having started the verbal feud between herself and Lavigne. "I think I'm a pretty nice person, but I guess I said something one time that wasn't very nice and it upset Avril," the young star says.

A Cinderella Story Premiere

The premiere of A Cinderella Story will be held at Grauman's Chinese Theater July 10. Soundtrack comes out July 13 and the movie will be out July 16th.

Hilary comments on her 'weight gain'

Houston Newspaper: Teenager Hilary Duff was ridiculed in the Star in a recent photo spread comparing pictures taken this year and last. "The pressure is outrageous to try to deal with," Duff, 16, tells USA TODAY. "It's disgusting. Everyone's picked apart and it's so superficial and not real. I'm not super skinny and not overweight. I'm just normal." Duff has not gained any weight and her size has not changed since last year, says her publicist, who adds that the 2004 photo was "exaggerated" by the Star. Duff, however doesnt let these comments bother her, "I try not to listen to what people say because I'm comfortable in my own skin," she says.

Avril Finally Lets Go....

From The Toronto Star [by Rita Zekas]... "The feud between Avril Lavigne (who really is the size of a hand puppet) and Hilary Duff is apparently over. There has been mutual slagging but Duff said her remarks about Lavigne had been blown out of proportion. 'It's over and done with,' she said. When told Duff had apologized, Lavigne said, 'That's cool.' What would Lavigne say if they met? "Nice to meet you." Perhaps Duff's bonhomie is due to her new guy, Good Charlotte's Joel Madden. The duo arrived at the awards separately but they were all over each other kissing and hugging in Yorkville on Saturday and after dinner at Morton's that night and over lunch yesterday at Sassafraz."

Sure, she avoided humiliation in high-school hallways ? barbs against her just get printed in magazines. But don't feel too sorry for her. As she told MTV News' Kelly Marino, she's got two more films and a two-month tour with her sister to look forward to this year alone. Before the clock strikes 12, HILARY DUFF transforms herself from wallflower to wonder girl in an update of the classic fairy tale, 'A Cinderella Story,' in theaters this July 16th! ET's MARIA MENOUNOS chatted with America's teen sweetheart about several hot topics, like dating, driving, and the most important one of all -- has Hilary found her own real-life Prince Charming? "No, I have not," she says, smiling. "I don't know if I should be looking ... I'm always working. I'm not closing all the doors, but I'm not out there looking. I don't really even know the type of guy I'm into either ... I'm learning I guess." Hilary also admitted that dating is extra tough in the spotlight: "It's really hard to have a private life. You go grab coffee with a friend and all the sudden you are dating them!" "My Prince Charming and I meet through a text message and through the Internet at school," she explains. "So he finds my cell phone and puts posters around the school and tries to find me." Hilary Duff is fearless in her attitude toward dressing

According to Lucky magazine, Hilary Duff is fearless in her attitude toward dressing. "I once wore this tight Kimono with crystals on it-it was really cool, but everybody ragged on me for it," Duff said. "And I was like, I don't care. I love it. And I still do. I'm not the type who dresses according to what people say." As far as shopping goes, Hilary always finds time for retail therapy. "I'll have back-to-back meetings, but somehow I'll find 15 minutes to hit my favorite stores," she admitted. "Everything in my closet can be worn with flip flops and heels." Her three favorite boutiques are Belle Gray, Dari, and Tryst. She has also been seen purchasing revealing outfits when she always says she doesn't like to show off her boobs and her butt.

Hilary Duff PUFFS UP!

Star Magazine wrote an article about Hilary's weight gain. Dr. Howard Shapiro, a New York City weight-loss specialist stated out that she appeared to be about 115 to 118 pounds during August 2003, but now she looks closer to 130 to 140 pounds. However, her rep tells Star Magazine, "Hilary has not gained any weight and her clothing size has not changed. Perhaps the scarf she has around her middle and the angle of the photo [in Star magazine] give the illusion of a weight gain, but that's not the case."

Hilary and Joel were spotted hanging out again. Another article states that Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, 25, was photographed with his arm around his rumored new girlfriend Hilary Duff, 16, in Toronto.

Avril Lavigne and Hil at Much Music Awards

The MuchMusic Video Awards presented a chance for teen idols Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff to either call a truce after a recent much-reported spat, or take the feud one step further - on live TV. Which happened? Hard to tell. The name-calling supposedly began months ago after Duff made some negative comments in the press about Lavigne and how she treats her fans, which led to Lavigne responding angrily in her own interviews. On Sunday night, when Lavigne walked down the red carpet before the show, she seemed unconvinced by Duff's reported comments that she wanted to apologize and put the war of words behind them. "Yeah, I'd like to see that one," Lavigne said sarcastically. The two teen singers didn't appear on screen together during the show and both were no-shows for their scheduled press conferences backstage.

When multi-media pop sensation Hilary Duff first arrived in Tinseltown six years ago, she and her mom and sister played it safe and took an apartment at the famed home-away-from-home for aspiring Hollywood tots and others, the Oakwood Apartment complex in Burbank. After "Lizzie McGuire" was an assured hit with 65 episodes ordered, it was move up time once again. This time, the family purchased a modest, but spacious Spanish two-story home in the same town. Sister Haylie lived out back in the guest house. For the first couple of years, the property was not gated, but after reported stalker issues associated with Hilary's skyrocketing celebrity status, a solid fence and gate were added. And now we have clear evidence that Hilary Duff is indeed continuing to move up in the world. The family has purchased a palatial, gated, lake front Spanish villa complete with turret valued at approximately $2.8 million and located two doors down from Kirsten Dunst's old digs. This fortress is sure to keep out nosy paparazzi, various assorted stalkers and the odd egg-pelting teen pop rival. And why shouldn't she trade up residences? Reportedly taking in $2 million last year, the multi-tasking teen's earnings could easily top $10 million this year. Her fee is now reportedly $2 million per movie and she has three new films in various stages of production. Her first CD, Metamorphosis is multi-platinum with another album due out this summer. She has her own clothing, accessory, and pet supply lines and several other lucrative endorsements such as Visa pre-paid cards and a kids' video player. The young mogul may not have much time to enjoy lounging lakeside in her backyard though. She is currently in Toronto shooting A Perfect Man and will be going on tour to continue to promote Metamorphosis and her new album this summer.

 Double-Duff Treatment

PASADENA, California Jessica and Ashlee Simpson aren't the only sisters in pop poised to have a sizzling summer. Hilary and Haylie Duff are touring together, recording albums and releasing their first duet. The single, a cover of the Go-Go's' 1981 classic "Our Lips Are Sealed," will be featured on the soundtrack to Hilary's movie "A Cinderella Story," opening July 16. "We really wanted to work together, and my label knew that, so we found this song and we're like, 'Yes! We have to do this!,' " Hilary explained excitedly backstage at Saturday's Wango Tango On-Air festival, where the sisters debuted their version. "I thought it fit in the movie because there's a secret relationship going on in 'A Cinderella Story' and it's kind of like a secretive song," Haylie said. "The movie's kind of about what goes on in high schools and how people are mean to each other, so I think that it fits really good," Hilary added. The Duffs recently shot a video for "Our Lips Are Sealed" in Toronto with director Chris Applebaum (Britney Spears, Fountains of Wayne). "The video is awesome," Hilary said. "We were in a car driving around the city and we were in a fountain, which was really fun, but it was freezing outside." "We had the best time up there," Haylie said. "We had the whole band with us and our family, so it was a really cool experience."

HOLLYWOOD ? With the temperature hovering around 100 degrees, it was an especially hot night for the sixth annual Young Hollywood Awards Sunday at the Avalon nightclub. Among those trying to stay cool on the red carpet were Hilary Duff, Josh Duhamel, Scarlett Johansson, Alicia Silverstone,Spider-Man director Sam Raimi, George Lopez, Ron Perlman and James Garner. Duff said she wasn't amused by being spoofed on NBC's Saturday Night Live in a sketch satirizing her reported feud with teen star and guest host Lindsay Lohan. "I knew it was going to happen," Duff said. "I don't think she likes me very much, but I wasn't insulted. I think it's really mean when they make fun of people. If I ever hosted SNL, I wouldn't do a skit about her. I liked that I got to dress all in pink, though." Duff later received the Today's Superstar award, one of several given by Hollywood Life magazine to showcase merging talent. The evening was hosted by Entertainment Tonight's Maria Menounos, and the first award went to Halle Berry, who two years ago won an Oscar for Monster's Ball. She arrived wearing a white tank top and low-cut jeans with her long hair in a ponytail. "To know I'm a role model for just one person is special, and this is very meaningful," Berry said before giving presenter and Monster's director Marc Forster a big hug. Garner got a standing ovation for his Legend in Acting award. Singer/songwriter Ben Jelen rocked the crowd with songs from his debut album, Give It All Away, which recently hit the Billboard album chart. Johansson, looking smashing in a black sequined dress with a low-cut back and silver heels, hung out at the after-party held upstairs at the Moroccan-themed Spider Club. Heart of Summer Details

LOS ANGELES The club was crammed, Three Days Grace were rocking the stage and a blonde on the shoulders of a dude in the front row was flashing devil horns. It was a typical rock concert except for one small detail. The blonde was pop starlet Hilary Duff. And while the singer/actress has been listening to heavier music lately, she was actually at this show to work; her afternoon with Three Days Grace and several hundred extras was being captured for a scene in her upcoming movie "Heart of Summer" (see "Hilary Duff Can't Stay Away From Big Screen A Moment Longer"). "Basically what happens [before the concert scene] is my dad and my brother got in a big fight because my brother's fighting for me to go to this [performing arts] school because he knows that I'll do a great job there," Duff explained. "And he gets grounded ... and I had gotten tickets for his graduation present to this concert ... so we sneak out and we drive there and we go to the concert and we have a great time." Sounds like another fluffy Duff movie, right? Not exactly. On the way home from the concert, her brother, played by Jason Ritter ("Freddy vs. Jason"), is killed by a drunk driver. Duff's character learns later that her brother had secretly signed her up to attend a summer session at the arts school in Los Angeles. "She really wants to go to because she has a really great voice, but she has to kind of lie to her dad to get there and her aunt and her mom are in on it," Duff said. "But at the same time, she's like, 'I don't know if I should go because it's so soon after my brother dies.' "She's just going through a lot of stuff and she's kinda the type of person that bottles it all in," she continued. "She has a very strict dad and he kind of wants everything his way. And her whole entire life, she's just gone along with it. ... Her brother's always been the type of person pushing to get out [of their small Arizona town]. And she's always just gone with the flow and now she wants out." David Keith, who has played villains in dozens of movies (most recently "Daredevil"), plays Duff's father, while Rita Wilson ("Runaway Bride") plays her mom and Rebecca De Mornay ("Identity") plays her aunt. John Corbett ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding") and Oliver James ("What a Girl Wants") also co-star as a teacher at the school and Duff's love interest, respectively. "This is my first step toward working on a more dramatic movie," said Duff, whose credits include "Cheaper by the Dozen," "Agent Cody Banks" and "The Lizzie McGuire Movie." " 'A Cinderella Story,' which is the movie that comes out before ['Heart of Summer'], definitely has a little more edge to it," Duff explained. "[My character] deals a lot with her father dying and with not being accepted at school, but the movies are totally, totally different. It's a little more serious, it's a little more older. "I'm not saying I totally wanna go there right now, though, you know," she added, smiling. That's because, at the moment, she was having too much fun going to a rock concert. "It's really funny, because I have been on tour lately and people just want to touch your hand and they get so excited and I didn't know what that was like," she said. "I didn't know too much about Three Days Grace before we had started the filming, but I really love their music now. And it's funny to be on the other side, like 'Ahh,' screaming crazy, you know, being obsessed with somebody. It was a little awkward at first, but I got the hang of it."

Tour Dates

Jessica Simpson will sing the national anthem at this year's Indianapolis 500, which takes place on May 30. ... Just a few days after Hilary Duff announced plans for her upcoming tour, the teenage pop star added a few more dates to her summer trek. Following a couple of newly announced performances in Los Angeles, May 15 at KIIS-FM's Wango Tango show and May 16's benefit concert for Radio Disney, Duff spliced in a pair of shows in the Tri-State Area. On July 25, she'll be in East Rutherford, New Jersey, while on the following day, Duff travels to Uniondale, New York, for a show at Nassau Coliseum.

Noth & O'Malley Suitors for Duff's Perfect Man Source: The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday, April 20, 2004 The Hollywood Reporter says Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Law & Order) and Mike O'Malley (Yes, Dear) are set to play opposite Hilary Duff in The Perfect Man, which Mark Rosman is directing for Universal Pictures. The story centers on a teenager (Duff) who is trying to find the best mate for her single mom. Noth plays a friend of the family who, unbeknownst to the women, just might have all the qualities they are looking for. O'Malley is one of the potential suitors. The role of the mother has yet to be cast. Production starts April 29 in Toronto. Actress Heather Locklear is also -----set to play Hilary Duff's unlucky-in-love mother in upcoming romantic comedy The Perfect Man.
