2006 KayCee Stroh Interview exclusively for the Wildcats Website!

1) How did you first get involved with acting?
A: I was always into performing because of dance, I was in the 4th grade and I tried out for a musical rendition of The Wizard of Oz. I got the part of Dorothy. It was then that I realized I could combine the 3 things I loved the most. Dancing, Singing, and Acting.

2) How did you get the part of Martha Cox, hip-hopping braniac, in High School Musical?
A: I was a dance teacher and heard about an audition that called for dancers of all types. I decided I would take all my students and because I am young I thought I'd would give it a try too! There was approximately 500 dancers who showed up for the audition. It was the longest audition I had ever been to. I waited for 2 hours because I was the 19th group to audition. When I finally got the chance to audition Kenny Ortega (the director) pulled me aside and said "On your resume it says your an actress and a singer. I think I have a part for you to audition for. I love you, your different." To make a long story short, I auditioned for the part 3 weeks later, and the Martha Cox legacy began.

3) Many of the other stars in High School Musical have said that working on the movie was a lot of fun.  Did the cast really bond that well?
A: It is true that the cast got very close. We were all a big family shooting for 1 great big dream. It wasn't just the leads though, We bonded with the dancers and the crew. Everyone was very supportive and pushed each other to be their very best. Kenny Ortega was the glue that held us all together.

4) High School Musical started out as a Disney Channel movie, but has turned into a cultural phenomenon, winning numerous awards.  There are already clothes and a book, and sheets and a 2-disc DVD are soon to follow.  What does it feel like to be a part of something so successful?
A: I'm so proud to be a part of the original HSM cast. All of knew we were doing something great but I don't think we expected it to be a phenomenon. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. It just shows if you're "All In It Together" and you "Getcha Head In the Game" pretty amazing things can happen. HAHAHA

5) On the same subject, because of High School Musical's success, many people think the movie's stars are automatically on the top of the audition charts for numerous other acting projects.  Lucas Grabeel has been open about saying that he is still struggling as an actor even after the success of High School Musical.  Do you think that the movie has helped your career?
A: I can only speak for myself. I have been blessed so greatly through HSM. I have wanted to be a triple threat since I was 5. I used to go around as a little girl telling everyone I was going to be famous. I just never knew how I was going to pull it off. Right when I was about to give up hope, HSM came my way. Now I am in Hollywood with a manager, agent and publicist. HaHa. I'm living my dream and I couldn't be more grateful! However this is a lifestyle that takes a lot of patience. I think everyone struggles in this business at one time or another. Sure HSM looks great on a resume but it doesn't make you shoe in for other parts. It all comes down to your acting ability.

6) What are your upcoming projects?
A: My episode of "The Suite Life" just came out and I am excited about that. "Leslie" is a fun character to play because she has so much energy and is so clueless. She's definitely the opposite of "Martha Cox" in which I am hoping to play again in the sequel.
I have auditioned for some great stuff lately and I am just waiting to hear back on them. So when I do, you will be the first to know!
I recently did a photo shoot/Interview for Torrid.com They are a plus size fashion company that has been kind enough to sponsor me. P.S. Check out 1 of my outfits from Torrid in the November Issue of Popstar Magazine! I am really looking forward to a singing career so I am busy perfecting my voice. I am thinking about teaching dance here in Hollywood. I have been a substitute a few times and the kids really freak out when I walk in. LOL

7) Since your part in High School Musical, you have become a role model for a lot of young girls.  Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
A: I love being a role model for young girls. I often think to myself... At the end of my life God is not going to care how many movies I was in. He is going to care about the type of person I was and how many others I inspired. "God doesn't check your credits." I love my fans they mean the world to me. I hope I can teach them to be Powerful, Classy, and to not judge others or measure themselves by a waist size.

"What is KayCee Stroh really like?" By: Katie M

Many celebrities claim to be "down to earth," "normal" people who don't act any different than us.  At the same time, may celebs are pompous, arrogant and self-absorbed, thinking that they are better than their fans.  So, is KayCee Stroh this type of celebrity??  NO WAY!!

KayCee Stroh is one of the sweetest people I have ever been lucky enough to talk with.  She is helpful, kind, and very appreciative of all of the support her fans give her.  When it comes down to it, KayCee is an all-American, every day girl who is lucky enough to be living out her dreams in California.

While KayCee seems to have shot to success over night, dont think that her "Bop to the Top" has been without work.  She is an accomplished (and very dedicated) singer, dancer, and actress who continues to inspire other young girls by continuing to teach dance lessons!!

After being nice enough to let me interview her, helping me the the "Martha's Page" section of the site, and answering my endless questions, KayCee certified her Sweet Status by thanking me for being a fan and sending me a package of autographs that I will treasure forever.

If any of you are thinking of becoming celebrities, definitely follow KayCee's amazing example of a humble, kind, and appreciative young girl.  After reading her interview and learning more about KayCee, I think you will definitely agree that she deserves all success that comes her way!

The Wildcat Website (and me particularly,) wish KayCee the best of luck in all of her future endeavors!

KayCee Stroh Interview - July 2007

High School Musical 2:

1) What was it like reuniting with the cast of High School Musical to film High School Musical 2?

It was like a big family reunion! We all gathered around and asked each other what everyone had been up to. However it felt like we had never been apart.

2) Which of the two scripts did you like most, HSM or HSM2?

I definitely like HSM2 better, it really digs deeper into the characters and shows how over the top we all really are. It also shows the different sides of our personalities that the audience probably didn't know we had.

3) When you and the rest of the cast filmed the first High School Musical, you were all virtually unknown. Now, you are all internationally recognized stars. Did ego get in the way of how you all got along while filming HSM2?

Not at all, Kenny Ortega (the director) told us all that if we wanted to make this movie great then we needed to put everything we had into it like we did last time and push everything else aside.

4) While doing publicity for the original HSM, you all claimed to be great friends and hang out on the weekends. Is the cast still as close?

We are still very close, however our schedules are a lot busier so we don't get to be together as much as we would like. =(

5) What can you tell us about the rumors of High School Musical 3? Will there be another HSM movie or is HSM 2 the end of the line?

It looks like there will be a HSM3 but no one has any details at this time. So be careful what you listen to online.

6) What can you tell us about High School Musical 2? Anything that you can reveal to us about the plot?

It begins with the last day of school (what time is it) all of us are discussing getting summer jobs, and our futures. We all happen to get jobs together at a country club that Sharpay's family owns. This leads to an interesting summer!

High School Musical: The Concert:

7) (I know that you already told me about this, but I would love to include it in the interview, so) What was it like going to the HSM concert?

Going to the tour show was quite an adventure. LOL! When my face came up on the jumbo screen, the crowd around me started to realize who I was. Let's just say I ended up getting mobbed. Security took me upstairs to sign autographs with the rest of the cast. Ha-Ha I didn't expect that reaction.

8) How cool was it to see your face up on the screen at the concert during "Stick to the Status Quo?"

I felt very blessed! I had this moment when I thought to myself "wow a year and a half ago you were teaching dance in SLC god has been good to you". I often think of that moment when I need to count my many blessings.

About You:

9) What is going on with your own personal career?

Busy Busy Busy! I am doing a lot of charities, events and auditions right now. I also just filmed another episode of "The suite life of Zack and Cody" and took a trip to New York (my first time) for auditions and publicity.

10) What are your plans for the summer? Are you going to keep working or do you get to take some time off?

I already spent a month at home in Utah for my vacation, so I think that will be it for me. There is a lot still going on in the business this summer so it looks like work for me.

11) What was it like getting to go back to your hometown as a celebrity?

It is a great feeling going back to my hometown as a "celebrity" however I don't think of it that way. It just feels great to have a sense of pride for accomplishing so much in such a little time. I'm proud of myself for not listening to the critics, and for following my dreams. My family are the ones that are most "freaked out" when I come home, because when we go out to eat or shop people will stop me and ask for autographs on napkins and on their t-shirts etc. My moms jaw drops every time LOL!

12) Is there anything you want to tell the fans?

Thank you so much for all of your support. I hope that you will follow your dreams and know in your heart that no matter what situation you may come from anything is possible with hard work. Remember Be Classy Be confident Be you!
