Creating Healthy Leaders for Tomorrow

Be an Achiever! Join the High5Kids

High5Kids is giving kids a LEG up in life by providing positive experiences and education to grow on.  The cycle is Learn, Experience and Grow. It is vital to expose kids to healthy habits during their formative years.  These habits carry forward into adulthood providing quality of life and lower health care costs along the way.

Learn... How the freshness of the outdoors affects the body and how just getting out of the house and becoming physically active revitalizes the body.  Our program addresses 'Nature Deficit Disorder' which is affecting our contemporary lifestyle children. Our focus is getting kids outside exploring and exercising not only for their bodies but their imaginations.

Experience... The benefits of the physical activity.  Our key objective of High5kids is to establish a community program involving local businesses, health practices, other Non-profits, and park & recreation centers as a platform for educating children and families about the benefits of the outdoors and physical activity ~ leaving no child inside because of lack of funds!

Grow... Education is the key in making lifestyle choices for a healthy body.  We teach kids how to be nutritionally responsible and make healthy choices for a strong body. We provide lifestyle workshops addressing key issues such as obesity, learning disorders, behavioral challenges and other health issues.  Our workshops have a proven track record of making a measurable difference in quality of life.

Spending time outdoors good for kids' eyes

In the study, 2367 12-year-old Australian schoolchildren underwent eye examinations and completed questionnaires about their daily activities.

The lowest rates of myopia were associated with the highest rates of outdoor activity, irrespective of how much near work, such as reading, the children did.

THE hours spent in front of the PlayStation or at the computer play no role in ruining a child's sight, with Australian researchers finding that being cooped up indoors is what gives children glasses.

Children should spend two to three hours a day outside to prevent them becoming short-sighted, says a study by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Vision Science.
