Higginshaw put on a superb team performance on Saturday, scoring 3 great team tries in the process, despite having 4 players out injured, shutting out Eccles until the very last minute for a 20 point to 6 win.
Higginshaw 's defence carried on from last week it was spot, on snuffing out several Eccles attacks, unsettling them on the ball with some big hits and brilliant defence from Dane Armstrong, Matty Corbally, Gary Dobbs and Stuart Barry, with young Paul Turner and Sam Abbott sweeping up at the back.
The game was nip & tuck for the first 20 mins with Steve Perry and Sheldon Lord going close, before Higginshaw ' s Dane Armstrong scored when he hit a Paddy Jennings short ball at pace from 15 yards out carrying the defenders over the line in the process, Jennings converted, for a 6 nil score.
The next try was a cracker, with a move over 70 yards resulting in young srum half David Hewson scoring the try of the match , when a sweeping move initiated by Gary Dobbs sending away Paul Turner, new Signing Gary Walsh, and Steve Perry all linked up to send David Hewson in under the posts with Paddy Jennings adding the extra's 12 - 0 on 32 minutes.
Higginshaw scored their final try from Steve Perry a fine individual effor from 50 yards , after another sweeping move out of defence, involving Sam Abbott, Mark Ward, Carl Fields, Paddy Jennings, Alan Dunn all handling before putting Steve Perry in for a try under the posts, Paddy Jennings adding the extra's 18 - 0 on 36 minutes, Eccles were shell-shocked with a 18 - 0 half time score.
Higginshaw's defence in the second half held firm with Mathew Corbally, Kevin Tighe, Steve Perry and Carl Fields working tierlessly to keeping Eccles at bay.
Higginshaw added a Penalty from Paddy Jennings on 70 minutes sealed the victory, only for Eccles to score a converted consellation try in the final minute for scoreline of 20 - 6.
The whole team were outstanding on defence , but Dane Armstrong, Gary Walsh, Sean Stubbs, Paul Turner deserve a special mention,
Man of the Match was Paul Turner , with Sam Abbott and Steve Perry following closely behind him.
Defence won the day on Saturday in a very competitive game against
Cadishead Rhinos,
in a tight game Cadishead scored first with a drop goal on 10 minutes
and then score a try & goal for a 7 nil lead on 20 minutes.
Higginshaw showed they meant business from the off, with some powerful
running by Props Stuart Barry, Andy Kelly, Dane Armstrong, well backed
up by youngsters Chris Tomlin and Gary Dobbs in the forwards, with the
experienced Paddy Jennings at stand off outstanding , the team had a
more balanced feel to it, forming a good understanding with young Adam
Horabin at scrum Half.
It was Andy Kelly who got Higginshaw back in the game with a well worked
move coming onto a short ball from Paddy Jennings to blast in from 15
yards out, after Chris Tomlin had made a 30 yard for try line with
Jennings converted for a 6 - 7 score.
Cadishead Rhinos increased their lead with 2 penalties for offside, 6 -
11 score line at half time, playing downhill in the second half
Higginshaw started to make ground before Jennings was again the
instigator with a chip into the in goal area for Ryan O'Donnell to dive
in for a good try, Jennings converted to give Higginshaw the lead at 12
- 11, from the kick off, Cadishead hit back with a converted try after
capitalising in a Higginshaw error, to lead 17 - 12. Then against the
run of play Cadishead scored again for a 21 12 lead, Higginshaw
continued to play attacking rugby up the left with, Paul Turner, Chris
Tomlin and Sean Stubbs all combining to making big inroads into the
Cadishead half, before new boy John Duffy decided to take on the defence
with a darting run from 40 yards out and score by the posts for a great
individual try, Jennings converted for a 18 - 21 with 3 minutes to go,
Higginshaw tried to pull it back but in the end they were beaten by the
clock.
All of the Higginshaw Team deserve some praise for their efforts in the
first game of the season, Man of the Match was Chris Tomlin , Paddy
Jennings and Adam Horabin, all impressing and with young guns David
Hewson and Sam Abbott, deserving a menssion.
Higginshaw play Golbourne Parkside at Home on Saturday 08/09/07
With the end result not reflecting the balance of the game, with St Anne's running in 3 late tries to clinch the match, in front of a healthy rain drenched crowd on Oldham Edge on Saturday.
St Anne's showed they meant business from the off with a try on their first attack, scoring wide out on the left, they then added a superb try when their full back went in from 40 yards and added the goal on 10 minutes for a 10 nil lead.
This seemed to be the wake up call Higginshaw needed, who were giving their illustrious opponents too much respect, with forwards Andy Kelly and new signings Gary Dobbs and John Duffy, making big yards to set up Stuart Barry on a run to the line resulting in a penalty for high tackle, Paddy Jennings converted for a 2 - 10 score on 20 minutes.
With St Anne's threatening to hit back, Higginshaw's defence was excellent with Stuart Barry, Kevin Tighe, Sam Abbott and Full back Paul Turner outstanding, Higginshaw turn defence into attack with a great move Adam Horabin making a half break supported by Kris Richards and Andy Allen, who passed onto Paddy Jennings who's superb chip for the corner was gathered by winger Sheldon Lord to race in for great try, to bring Higginshaw back into the game, at 6 - 10 at half time score.
Higginshaw carried on in the second half playing open rugby with full back Paul Turner in great form making several jinking runs, well supported by Wingers Mark Ward and Josh Griffiths who was unlucky not to score, just failing to touch down after after a 60 yards chase, chasing a kick from Paddy Jennings.
In the second half St Anne's went all out for the winning try but Higginshaw 's cover defence was superb, time and time again denying St Anne's chance to score.
It was a cruel deflection that turned the game, with the ball deflecting into the arms of the on rushing St Anne's centre for a converted try for a 6 - 1 6 score on 70 minutes, the Higginshaw in the closing minutes with the heavy conditions taking its toll on the Higginshaw players St Anne's took the game away with 2 tries and a goal for a flattering score of 6 - 26 at the final whistle.
All of the Higginshaw Team deserve praise for their outstanding efforts, Man of the Match was John Duffy, Paddy Jennings, Adam Horabin and Sam Abbott, were all outstanding, along with Forwards, Stuart Barry, Dane Armstrong, Gary Dobbs, Andy Kelly, and young hooker David Hewson, taking on the big St Anne's pack.
This was a brilliant team effort from the Higginshaw players with coaches Craig Dickinson & Jason Donbavand exited at the teams prospects for the coming season, which begins on 1st September with Cadishead away.
NOTE
Higginshaw ' s Past & Present Benefit Match & Race night on the 5th August in Aid of Terry Sweeney was a great success, Terry donated the £900 raised to Charity, half going to his favourite Charity New Start For Kids and half to Higginshaw's Injured Players fund.20/12/07 -
STEVE Perry suffered an unwanted 21st birthday present during Higginshaw's 29-18 home defeat to West Bank Bears.![]()
In a division four game played in arctic conditions, Perry suffered a knee ligament injury after 50 minutes and now faces a lengthy spell out of the action.
Higginshaw, already missing several players with injuries, played a full part in an enjoyable game.
After conceding a converted try, Higgy responded when Perry dived in at the corner. And, after conceding two further tries to go 16-4 down, the home side started to click.
David Hewson and Ryan O'Donnell began to exert their influence and Perry got on the end of Michael Smith's peach of a pass, ending a move in which Dane Armstrong's 30-yard run played a big part.
That was on the stroke of half-time and five minutes after the restart, Higgy went over again when Paddy Jennings touched down Ryan O'Donnell's kick through. A Smith penalty closed the arrears to two points.
Higginshaw then had a player sent to the sin-bin for dissent and West Bank took full advantage by scoring three tries in that time to take the game away from the home team.
Smith's try three minutes from time was little more than a consolation, with West Bank knocking over a drop-goal right on the final whistle.

Andrew Walker ( Whack ) Has broken his neck in 3 places whilst diving in Goa with his girlfriend during an expedition in a remote coastal area. Andrew, who is a second row forward for the Higginshaw Rugby League Club, was rushed to an Indian hospital three weeks ago, where he was placed on ventilation and is expected to stay for the next few months. His girlfriend, who is from London, remains by his bedside.A friend told the Advertiser: "He has always been there for us – now we have to be there for him. He is dedicated to the club, and loves the craic and camaraderie at Higginshaw.
"As far as I know there was no negligence involved – it was just one of those things. He has been taking food in the last few days, which is a good sign.
"We all wish him well for his recovery and we’ll do all we can to support him."
Andrew, who has been a member of the St Stephen’s Street club for five years and is affectionately known as ‘Whack’ by teammates, is also central to the club’s fundraising and social activities.
His friend added: "He used to have a sports shop in Shaw that he ran as a sideline with a group of friends.
"They sponsored and donated shirts for us, and helped organise sportsmen’s dinners. He has been travelling up to Scotland quite a lot with work recently – he hasn’t been able to play much since the beginning of the season. But he is always the first one there when anyone needs anything."
Another team mate added: "He took to us – we’re his kind of team.
"We know how to enjoy ourselves and he enjoys the social side."
Friends rallied round after the accident and formed a committee to raise money for Andrew’s rehabilitation, with a fundraising day to be held at Tara Leisure, Shaw, in the coming months.
Higginshaw 22 - 0 Heysham Atoms
Higginshaw 0-14 Blackbrook
Higginshaw were unlucky not to take anything away from Saturday's game against a
strong Blackbrook side, in a great game rugby in atrocious conditions on Oldham
Edge. Higginshaw again fielding a side full of young promising lads who gave
their all and gave as good as they got from high flyers Blackbrook in the
opening exchanges. with some superb defending from Ian Sutton, Steve Perry,
Ryan O'Donnell and new boy Gary Burbridge keeping the line intact, until
Blackbrook took the lead with a converted try after 12 minutes in a game that
was a credit to both sides. Blackbrook increased their lead on 14 minutes with a
try wide out for a 10 nil lead, slowly Higginshaw started to turn the game
around with constant pressure in the Blackbrook line, Ryan O'Donnell, Jamie
Borland and Michael Smith all had a chances but were stopped short of the line,
on 25 minutes, Blackbrook increased their lead to 14 nil with a converted try.
This try seemed to fire Higginshaw on defence and never conceded another point
all game, with the young lads growing in stature as the game wore on, Ian Sutton
and Michael Jewitt setting the lead and all the lads followed by example with
every attack being repelled time and time again.
In the second half Higginshaw carried on with their good work and all out attack
going close after Jamie Borland burst the cover defence to hand onto Arron Lees
and Michael Smith who in turn set up Scott Foote just a foot short of the line,
but unperturbed the young lads stuck at their task and battled it out to the end
never once letting their guard down against a team full of experience to gain a
moral victory.
Mark Ward, Chris Tomlin, Scott Foote, David Smith, Carl Fields, Eddie Aspin Man
of the Match Gary Burbridge and Ryan O'Donnell all worked overtime on defence
throughout the match.
The whole Higginshaw team deserves praise for their efforts against a big strong
Blackbrook team, everyone tried hard and our first victory will not be far away
if we carry on from here.
Outstanding for Higginshaw were Man of Match Gary Burbridge, Chris Tomlin, Eddie
Aspin, Mark Ward, Jammie Borland and Steve Perry.
Higginshaw 6 - 30 Heysham Atoms

Match report to come soon
Higginshaw 6 - 40 Ince Rose Bridge
Higginshaw missed several of their more experienced players and they were further handicapped when another seasoned performer, prop Ian Sutton, dislocated two fingers in the pre-match warm-up.
When Sutton was forced to quit after only five minutes, the average age of the Higgy side was 19.
New boys Jamie Borland and Carl Ashton, plus John Fullen and Steve Perry worked hard in defence.
And Higgy soon scored a cracking try in which Carl Field made the break, Ryan O’Donnell carried the move on and Kevin Tighe side-stepped two defenders on his way tot he line.
O’Donnell added the goal, but Higgy couldn’t sustain their early effort and Rose Bridge went on to build a 30-6 half time lead.
Shell-shocked, Higgy picked themselves off the floor to restrict the Wigan side to only ten more points and to go close to scoring themselves several times. David Smith, Borland, Field and Paul Turner were all held short of the line .
A certain number 9 also deserves special praise. :p

Higginshaw 14 - 22 Leigh East
Higginshaw were unlucky not to take anything away from Saturday's game with
Leigh East, when they came back from 10 nil down on 25 minutes to lead 14 - 10
after 50 minutes in a brilliant game rugby in atrocious conditions on Oldham
Edge. Higginshaw gave as good as they got from high flyers Leigh East, with some
superb defending from Andy Kelly, Steve Perry, Ryan O'Donnell and Kevin Tighe
keeping the line intact until Leigh East, took the lead with a converted try
after 15 minutes in a game that was a credit to both sides. Leigh East dominated
the first 20 minutes and increased their lead on 25 minutes with a try wide out
for a 10 nil lead, slowly Higginshaw started to turn the game around with
constant pressure in the Leigh line resulting in a penalty when Josh Griffoths
was impeded when chasing a kick, Ryan O'Donnell adding the penalty goal, also 2
more for offside offences to bring Higginshaw right back into the game. On 35
minutes Stand off Paul Turner split the Leigh East defence supported by Ryan
O'Donnell and Chris Cheatham who made 40 yards before setting up a try for Man
of the Match Chris Tomlin who wrong footed the defence with and angled run to
the posts from 20 yards out, to tie the scores at half time.
In the second half Higginshaw carried on with their all out attack which
resulted in a 1st try of the season for second row man Kris Richards, Marcus
Clarke, Dane Armstrong, Dave Smith and winger Mark Ward all handling before
sending in Kris Richards from 15 yards out with 3 men on his back as he crossed
the line, Ryan O'Donnell was just wide with the conversion, with Higginshaw
leading 14 - 10. Leigh East hit back with 2 quick unconverted tries for a 14 -
18 lead on 65 minutes, Higginshaw tried had to hit back and went close on
several occasions with Youngsters Carl Fields and Sean Stubbs making a good
impression on their debuts being held short of the line. Leigh East scored a try
on the final whistle to give a final score of 14 - 22 that did not reflect
Higginshaw's impact on the game.
The whole Higginshaw team deserves praise for their efforts against a big strong
Leigh East team, everyone tried hard and our first victory will not be far away
if we carry on from here.
Outstanding for Higginshaw were Man of Match Chris Tomlin, Kris Richards, Andy
Kelly, Dane Armstrong, and Steve Perry.
Chris Tomlin playing an absolutely blinder.
Higginshaw Training starts at 6:30pm on Mondays and 7:30pm on Thursdays at Counthill School in Moorisde.
Higginshaw 2-44 West Bank Swans
Higgy tried hard and they had brave battlers in Scott Hewson, Michael Jewitt, Steve Perry and the outstanding Andy Kelly. Kelly running some hard yards was bowling them over like bowling pins. Marcus Clarke, like Hewson, showed up well on his return to the club. Scott Hewson a specialist fullback playin out of posotion at centre deserved a special praise.
17/9/05 - Higginshaw 12-34 Pilkinton Recs
MICHAEL Jewitt scored twice and Andy Kelly won the man-of-the-match award as Higginshaw produced a brave performance in defeat at Pilkingtons. The St Helens side won 34-12 to pick up their first points in NW Counties division four, but it was a game that could have gone either way until Higgy lost Steve Perry and Chris Tomlin through injury in the later stages.
They became disorganised defensively after that and conceded 16 points in the last ten minutes after missing several gilt-edged chances earlier in the game.
Kelly, Mark Ward, two-try Jewitt, Steve Perry and Simon Wood, on his debut, all showed up well for Ray Ashton's team, while Ryan O'Donnell converted each of Jewitt's touchdowns.
At 4-0 to Pilkingtons, Perry and Stuart Donnelly were both held close to the line as Higgy piled on the pressure.
Winger Karl Curly also went close after good work by Jewitt.
Pilkingtons, finishing the stronger, went 8-0 ahead, whereupon the impressive Kelly made two 30-yard breaks, culminating in Jewitt's first try after good work by O'Donnell and Tomlin.
The home side built up an 18-6 lead before Higgy got back into contention with Jewitt's second try after an exciting move featuring Chris Cheetham, Ward and Paul Turner.
The visitors then went close to drawing level. Josh Griffiths picked up a loose ball 20 yards out, but with several options available, Higgy spread the ball wide and it went into touch.
17/9/05 - New Pics Uploaded in the pictures section & Higginshaw match report to follow in the next few days.
1/9/05 - Higginshaw 13-14 Cadishead
HIGGINSHAW were pipped 14-13 in a NW Counties fourth division thriller against Cadishead on Oldham Edge.
Coach Ray Ashton had a big squad available – a far cry from last season and one which bodes well for Higgy's prospects.
Cadishead took an early 4-0 lead, but Higgy hit back with Steve Perry impressing at centre, Paul Turner and Ryan O'Donnell creating openings and forwards Stuart Donnelly, Alan Dunn and Chris Tomlin running straight and hard.
Higginshaw had vital players missing with players like Scott Hewson, John Fullen & Raging Ross Edgerton missing out due to either work commitment or lack of team spaces.
Ashton's men got their reward when Ian Sutton and Mark Jewitt sent new-boy Turner through a gap. He chipped over the defence and was pulled back, but Higgy were awarded a penalty try which Tomlin improved.
A penalty goal pulled the visitors back to 6-6 at half-time, but Higgy edged in front again with O'Donnell's drop goal before the home side threw away a gilt-edged opportunity to go further head with another try.
Cadishead made them pay with two quick tries to go 14-7 ahead with ten minutes left.
Still fighting, Higgy came strongly again when man-of-the-match Mark Jewitt provided O'Donnell with a cracking try from 30 yards. Tomlin goaled.
With Dane Armstrong, Chris Cheet-ham and new signings Kris Richards and Mark Ward showing up well, Higgy went all out for the winner, but failed in their bid.
HIGGINSHAW went down 16-6 at Blackbrook (St Helens) in division four, this despite promising displays by Ryan O’Donnell, Andy Kelly, Stuart Donnelly, John Fullen, Mark Jewitt and big prop Andy Kelly.
Higgy had an early setback when O’Donnell, Paul Turner and Fullen created space for Donnelly to cross only for the referee to rule that he was held on his back.
However, there was no denying the Oldham side when a crossfield kick rebounded off a crossbar and Chris Tomlin picked up to stroll over the line for a try which O’Donnell converted.
Kelly and Dane Armstrong, the props, made the hard yards and veteran hooker Mark Jewitt rolled back the years with a vintage display of ball handling.
The team took time to settle, but new signings Mark Ward, Steve Perry and Karl Curly showed plenty of promise.
The second half was a slog, but young winger Ward was held inches short of the line and Ian Sutton, O’Donnell and Mick Jewitt all went close.

On behalf of myself and the Higginshaw rugby league club comittee we would like to welcome Ryan O Donnell to the club.
Ryan has played most of his rubgy league career at Oldham Saint Annes and has now joined the Higginshaw side for the 05/06 campaign. He played a few games towards the end of the season and impressed the players and club.
29/4/05 - Higginshaw Had a dissapointing 04/05 season this year finishing bottom of NW counties Division 3.
They are hoping to bounce back in 05/06 and need some experienced ball players.
Contact the club if interested on 0161-626-2009.
2/4/05 - HIGGINSHAW produced their BEST display of the season – and that against high-flying Thatto Heath in the third division of the NW Counties League.
Still seeking their first win after 20 league games, they went down 38-26 against one of the strongest sides in the division.
Ray, who has also committed himself to Higgy for next season, recognises he will need several new and experienced players in key positions to add to the nucleus of his current squad.
With promising young guns in Adam Horabin, Chris Thompson, David Smith, Joshua Griffiths and Ryan O’Donnell to name but a few who are starting to believe in their own ability, Ray knows he has something to build on next season.
Higgy trailed 18-14 at half-time, but they were level at 18-18 ten minutes into the new half and they were still in serious contention, trailing 26–30, late in the game.
Man-of-the-match Joshua Griffiths was a hat-trick hero, while Michael Jewitt and Sheldon Lord also scored tries. Chris Thompson and Ian Sutton (2) landed goals.
Griffiths had a blinder and there were impressive performances, too, by Andy Kelly, Sutton, Chris Tomlin, Horabin and Lord.
O’Donnell and Mark Jewitt set up the first try for Griffiths and just before half time O’Donnell and Lord linked well to send in Michael Jewitt for the second try.
Early in the second half Smith, Kelly, Tomlin and Horabin did the spade work for Griffiths to score his second try with a great outside break from 40 metres distance.
Smith went close several times and Higgy got their reward midway through the half with a try by Lord after good work by Kelly, John Fullen and Terry Sweeney.
Griffiths then completed his hat-trick when he chased a Horabin kick to put Higgy only four points behind./
Thatto Heath hit back with two unconverted tries to lead 38-26 and although Higgy mounted further attacks, Horabin, Fullen and Michael Jewitt were all stopped just short of the line.
Higginshaw RLFC were stunned recently with the head coaches John Donegan and Ian Kirkland walking out on the club just past the midway point of the season.
Ex-Oldham RLFC Star and former Higginshaw Coach Ray Ashton has taken over as the head coach until further notice.
Please let us know your feelings about this in the GUESTBOOK.
12/2/05 - Higginshaw produced the best performance of the season with a gutsy display
against high riding Milnrow. Higginshaw showed no respect from the start with
Young Adam Horabin taking advantage of a loose ball kicking forward 3 times over
60 yard, before fumbling the ball over the line. with 5 minutes Higginshaw were
in from with an interception try from scrum half Sheldon Lord who showed a clean
pair of heals over 50 yards to score under the posts with Ian Sutton adding the
extras for a 6 nil lead.
Milnrow hit back with a long range try to make it 6 - 4, both sides had a share
of the game early on with Andrew Walker, Andy Kelly, Michael Jewitt and Stand
off Chris Tomlin prominent for Higginshaw. Milnrow hit back twice within 5
minutes with two converted tries for a 6 - 16 lead, unlike previous game the
season Higginshaw's heads stayed up for the battle and grabbed a try back
through the impressive Michael Jewitt when he followed up a Chris Tomlin grubber
kick to make the score 10 - 16 at half time. The Higginshaw forwards put in some
hard work to keep Milnrow at bay with Alan Dunn, Bernard Ward and Ian Sutton
tackling them selves to a stand still. In the second half Milnrow scored 2 early
converted tries to put themselves in the driving seat at 10 - 28, Higginshaw hit
back with a superb break by centre Scott Hewson and Dave Smith gave full back
Adam Horabin a scoring chance only to be halted short.
Milnrow had a spell in which they scored 2 tries in 10 mins to kill the game and
increased their lead to 36 - 10 after 70 mins. Higginshaw tried manfully in the
second half to get over the whitewash again, with Terry Sweeney making the
initial break before Big Andy Kelly finished it off under the posts, Ian Sutton
added the conversion for a final score of 16 - 36.
Higginshaw again showed some fighting spirit with every player playing for each
again if we carry this into our next game a win cannot be far away. Scott
Hewson, Andy Kelly, Andrew Walker, Chris Tomlin and Adam Horabin deserve a
special mission.
05/02/2005 - Higginshaw suffered another defeat against Bamber Bridge 38 - 0, both sides
had a share of the game early on with second row Andrew Walker and hooker
John Fullen said "Higginshaw Played the best rugby league football I have seen for a long time in the first 20 minutes but seemed to slack off, we must improve or we face the drop indefinately."
Higginshaw played well in parts but will have to improve if they are to avoid
the drop onto division 4, as we have seen there are no easy fixtures in
this league.
29/01/05 - Higginshaw suffered another defeat this time against a
strong Leigh Harriers side 48 - 4. in the first half both went at each other
hammer and tongue, with Leigh taking the lead on 10 minutes for a 6 nil lead
teams. Higginshaw hit back with Mark Jewitt and Andrew Walker impressing on
their return to the fold with a move made over 40 yards to create an opening
wide only for the ball to go to ground with the line begging. Leigh increased
their lead to 14 nil capitalising on a couple of Higgy mistakes. Higginshaw had
their best spell in the last 10 minutes of the first half despite losing

15/12/04 - ROCHDALE side Mayfield have targeted a Standard Cup win – and they proved it by throwing their big guns at Higginshaw.![]()
Higginshaw new signings Aaron lees and Ryan O Donnell made there Higgy debuts. John Fullen also made his season debut after returning from an ankle injury.
"The pitch was in a terrible condition and the rain from the night before didnt help any of us" said John Fullen
Higgy scored first – a goal by Ian Sutton – but Mayfield then scored 15 tries and ten goals without reply, stand-off Gartland leading the way with all ten goals and a hat-trick of tries.
Even though Higgy lost the game and are out of the Standard cup there is a glimmer of light for the rest of the season as Higginshaw fielded a full 13 man squad and had a couple of subs on the bench which hasnt happened much this season..

06/11/04 - Higginshaw 0 V 42 Haydock
Higginshaw's suffered another defeat this time against Haydock 'A' for the
second time in 5 week at the hands of a very strong Haydock side 42 nil. For
the first time in week Higginshaw showed some fighting spirit with every player
playing for each other keeping Haydock at bay for long periods. Higginshaw had
several chances to score but did not get the rub of the green from the man in
the middle, Scott Hewson, Kevin Tighe, Ryan Kirkland, Ian Sutton all going
close. Higginshaw showed signs that in the coming weeks against some of the
lower placed teams they will start to pick up some points on the back of today's
performance thus restoring some pride with a gutsy display in keeping a strong
Haydock side to 3 second half tries.
Outstanding for Higginshaw were Sheldon Lord, Alan Dunn, Ryan Kirkland and new
