Darkness

Michelle had once loved her father, but now hated him for all that he had done. 40 years ago, when she had been 7, her father had loved her and spoiled her. Back then she had been a good angel, now she was a dark angel. She would have given up being an angel completely, but you can’t change what you are, only who you are. She would have been a really great angel, but now her wings were black and her soul lost. And it was all because of the day her father had gone to the human bar and not come back. Now all she did was sit in dark places wondering what things could have happened, if her father had come back. All of a sudden she stood up. What am I doing here! I can’t change what happened and I can’t go back! There is no point in dreaming about what things could be like, because it’s never gonna happen! she thought.

She started walking home, enjoying being outside at night. Then a little girl came running toward her. “Help me, help me! Please, Angel, please!” she said.
“What’s the matter?” Michelle asked her.
“My brother got a really bad owey!” she said.
“Alright, let’s go,” Michelle said, picking the little girl up and going up into the air.

Even though she was a dark angel, she was still an angel and felt the need to help people. “Where is he?” she asked.
“Over there,” the little girl said pointing at some trees.
Michelle flew over there and landed. Then she saw the little girl’s brother. He would have been extremely handsome, if he had not been covered in blood and not had a severe gash on his stomach. “Oh my God!” Michelle said.
“Is he gonna be okay?” the little girl asked.
“I really hope so. What’s your name?” Michelle asked.
“Maria,” the little girl said.
“That’s a pretty name,” Michelle said as she bent down to help Maria’s brother.
“Thank you. His name is Karanu. What’s your name?” Maria asked.
“Michelle.”

Michelle put her hand over Karanu’s stomach and it slowly started healing and the bleeding stopped. Maria stared at Michelle in amazement. “Karanu isn’t your full brother, is he?” Michelle asked.
“No, he’s not. My daddy slept with lots of pretty ladies, but he only had 2 children, then he died,” Maria said.
“You were lucky, because if your brother had not been half demon, he would have died from blood loss,” Michelle said.
“Michelle, how come your wings are black? I thought angels had white wings,” Maria said.
“I’ll explain to you some other day. But now we have to get your brother somewhere safe. What attacked him, anyways?” Michelle asked.
“It was a wolf demon,” Maria said.

So that’s why the cut was so bad. Michelle thought. She picked up Maria and Karanu, then flew out of the forest. “Where do you want me to leave you?” Michelle asked.
“I don’t ever want you to leave!” Maria said, “I want you to be my guardian angel!”
This surprised Michelle. Was this her chance to be a good angel? Did she even want to be a good angel again? “I’ll give it a try,” Michelle said.
She had never been a guardian angel before, and wasn’t sure how it worked. “That is so great! Now you can protect me and play with me!” Maria said.
“Doesn’t your brother play with you?” Michelle asked, not sure that she wanted to play games all of the time.
“He does sometimes, but he has to go out sometimes, otherwise he gets restless and might set everything on fire,” Maria said.
“Oh, so where are we going?” Michelle asked.
“Anywhere is fine,” Maria said.
“What do you mean?” Michelle asked.
“We don’t really have a house. Ever since our father died we’ve had nothing,” Maria said.
“That’s so sad! Why don’t you come to my house?” Michelle asked.
“That would be great! Could we have something to eat too?” Maria asked.
“Of course,” Michelle said.
Then she turned around and started flying home.

When Karanu woke up, the hole in his stomach had been healed. What happened? he thought. Then he saw Michelle, and to him, she was the most beautiful creature in the whole world. With her black eyes, hair, and wings. Then he saw his sister next to the angelic creature. Am I in Heaven? he thought. “Oh you’re awake!” the angelic creature said.
“Where am I?” Karanu asked.
“Your new home! We get to live with Michelle, she’s going to be my guardian angel!” Maria said.
“Cool. What happened?” Karanu asked.
“The wolf attacked you, then you set it on fire and it went running. Then you fell over and I went running, trying to find some help. Then I saw an angel walking through the forest and asked her to help me. So she flew me back to you and she put her hand on your stomach. Then the hole closed up and no more blood came. Then she flew us out of the forest and here, because I told her that we didn’t have a house,” Maria said.

“I told you not to tell anyone that!” Karanu said.
“It’s ok, she’s my guardian angel, she would have figured it out,” Maria said.
“It doesn’t matter now. What matters is that you stay in that bed and get better,” Michelle said to Karanu.
“I’m fine!” Karanu said.
“Fine, but take it easy,” Michelle said.
“Fine,” Karanu said, while thinking to himself, I don’t need to take it easy!
“You guys stay here, I’m going out,” Michelle said.
“I wanna come with!” Maria said.
“No!” Michelle said.
“Someone should pry go with you, to make sure you’re safe,” Karanu said.
“I’ll be fine, nothing attacks angels,” Michelle said.
“Alright, but come back,” Maria said.
“Don’t worry, I will,” Michelle promised.

That had been 20 years ago. Michelle had not come back. Karanu and Maria never knew what had happened to the angel, but from then on, they had never trusted anyone again. Now the 2 lived alone in Michelle’s house, barely able to keep going, because there was little food and many demons. By now Maria was 27 and her brother much older, but he looked like a 20 year old man. Poor Maria’s heart had been broken. She had loved the angel like she were her mother, and then Michelle had left her, promising to return. She would never forgive Michelle for that, never.

Michelle went out and flew to her favorite spot to be at night. She had to be alone, she had been with those 2 for a week straight, never once having a moment of alone time. She had just landed, when a man grabbed her and tied her up, so she couldn’t get away. The man and his bandits carried her away. Even though she tried her best she couldn’t get away, she couldn’t even break the ropes. They must be magic. she thought. They took her to a large temple and threw her on the ground. Then a man appeared in front of her. “You have betrayed the darkness!” He said.

“How so? And what makes you think that I was ever with the darkness?” Michelle asked.
“You are a dark angel, and you have a child that you are guardian of,” he said.
“I don’t care what the darkness thinks, it can’t stop me from loving that little girl!” Michelle said.
“Yes, it can!” he said.

With that, the men that had captured her, picked her up and went down below the temple and threw her into a cage. They shut the door, and the ropes that had bound her vanished. She sat there, thinking only of how she had to return to the little girl and her brother.

~*~*~ 20 years later

He came back to the cage she was being held in. He sat there for 5 minutes staring at her, and she stared right back, trying to use her magic to make Him open the cage. Moments later, He put his hand in Hs pocket and pulled out some keys. Her magic was working! He found the right key and put it into the lock. As soon as the door was opened, she was gone. Michelle flew as fast as she could toward her home. He was enraged. He shouted at everyone, “We must find her, she must not get away!”

Immediately, everyone in the temple went out and started hunting for the dark angel. A very dangerous thing to do.

Maria was looking out of the kitchen window, when she saw a dark angel flying toward the house, very fast. “Karanu, come here quick!” she said.
“What is it?” Karanu asked.
“I think it’s Michelle!” Maria said.
“What?” Karanu asked, running to the window.
“It is her!” Maria said, running outside, with Karanu hot on her heels.

As soon as she landed, Michelle said, “We must get out of here and fast!”
“Why?” Karanu asked.
“We are all in danger, I’ve only just escaped and they are furious! Karanu, you must burn down the house! I will leave some of my feathers inside so they will think that you killed me,” Michelle said.
“Alright,” Karanu said.

So Michelle and Maria went scattered some of Michelle’s feathers throughout the house, and as soon as they were out, Karanu burned it down. Michelle picked up both Karanu and Maria, then she flew away.

“How come you didn’t come back?” Maria asked.
“They captured me and locked me in a cage. I didn’t have a chance to use my angel magic before, because He never came near me. And He was the only one with a key to the cage. But today, He came by and I was able to bewitch him long enough to open the cage. Then I flew away and came to the house.”

At this point, Maria and Karanu knew that Michelle had tried her hardest to get away, and the only reason she couldn’t was because the people of darkness had cheated by using magic. “I’m sorry that we hated you for so long,” Maria said.
“It’s not your fault, for all you knew I could have just left you,” Michelle said.
“That’s what we thought,” Karanu said, “Where are we going to live now?”

When Michelle landed, she used her angel magic and built them a nice little house. “Is this how you got your other house?” Maria asked.
“No, my mother gave me that house,” Michelle said.
“What happened to your mother?” Karanu asked.
“The darkness killed her,” Michelle said.
“I am so sorry,” Maria said.
“Don’t be, it’s not your fault, it’s mine,” Michelle said.
“How can that be?” Karanu asked.

“Because I was consumed by the darkness after my father left, that’s why my wings, hair, and eyes are black. Anyways, because I was consumed, the darkness could use me to see. They had wanted to kill my mother because she had saved so many children from being consumed, but they could not find her. The day that she had given me that house, the darkness had been using me to see, and they saw my mother. After she said the house was mine, she went to see one of the children she was guarding, but she never made it,” Michelle said.
“But, if your mother saved so many children from the darkness, why couldn’t she save you?” Maria asked.
“Because, after my father left, I didn’t ever want to be with people again, so I was always on my own. Making myself an easy target for the darkness,” Michelle said.
“But, you’re an angel, couldn’t you have fought off the darkness?” Karanu asked.
“I didn’t want to. I no longer wanted to be an angel, but you can’t change what you are, only who you are. To me, it seemed that being a dark angel would be the closest thing to not being an angel at all, so I let the darkness consume me,” Michelle said.

“What is the darkness?” Maria asked.
“I’m not really sure, but I know it’s made of evil, hate, pain, and sadness,” Michelle said.
“So, when it consumed you, you became those things?” Karanu asked.
“Not exactly. I was never evil. That’s why I was able to help you,” Michelle said.
“How did you “betray” the darkness?” Maria asked.
“I saved Karanu and I became your guardian angel,” Michelle said.
“Then, how come your wings are still black? And won’t they be able to find you, if they can see through you?” Maria asked.

“When I became your guardian angel, they lost their grip on me. I like having my wings black, so I’m keeping them this way,” Michelle said.
“Won’t that make it easier for them to find you?” Karanu asked.
“Probably not,” Michelle said.
“You must have had a terrible life!” Maria said.
“It has been, but now it’s improving."
