Guidelines

  1. RPing Conduct:

  2. [1]Extrme swearing is not allowed.
We are allowing members to swear in RP threads, as long as it is not taken out of hand. If members begin to swear to often, we will ban it altogether and everyone will lose the privilege. In addition, please star (*) out ‘large’ cuss words, only leaving the first and last letters.
[2]Do not harass members out of RP threads.
There will be some harassment against other characters (for example, muggles or house elves), but do not take it out of the RP threads. Any member found harassing another member out of RP threads will be punished. Furthermore, if you feel you are being harassed, please contact the administration.
[3]Mature threads are to be marked as such.
If you are RPing a mature thread, please mark the thread mature in the title (for example, Thread Title [mature]). This is to prevent younger members from viewing things they shouldn’t be viewing. Mature topics includes sex, extreme violence, or anything a younger member shouldn’t see.
[4]Rude comments out of RP threads will not be tolerated.
Do not disrespect other members out of RP threads. Making rude or nasty comments towards members will not be tolerated, and you will be punished.
    [5]Do not write for others.
When RPing with another character, please do not RP major actions for them. Make sure it is something that they would do or say or do before writing it. Do not, unless you have received the other writer’s permission, have the other character leave the thread, say or do something they wouldn’t normally do, or anything else considered a ‘major’ RP action.
[6]Do not assume special powers without first clearing it with the administration.
Please keep your RP threads realistic. Do not assume special powers (super strength, ability to see into the future, etc.) without clearing it with the administration. In most cases, you will be turned down, as we are trying to keep this as realistic as possible.
[7]Extreme violence and gore is not welcome in a normal thread.
Minor violence (such as a fist fight) is fine in a normal thread. However, if there is going to be extreme violence or gore, please mark it as a mature thread.
    [8]Please write in proper English!
When writing in an RP thread, please keep the following things in mind:
*Please do not post short messages or pointless messages (for example, “lol”). They are pointless and distracting.
*Regularly posting OOC messages in RP threads is not welcome (for example, “I have to go… be back later). Send the member a private message instead. If you really must, make sure they are in brackets. In addition, small text is preferred.
*Do not use net speak in RP threads (for instance, “r u red e to go so u n I can have fun”). It is distracting and isn’t welcome.
*Please use third person writing style (“James walked to the door and smiled at Ben.” is preferred over “James walks to the door and smiles at Ben.”).
*Please write out your actions instead of using stars (we would rather see “Jeff walked to the door.” than *walks to the door*).
*Please use correct capitalization and punctuation.

  3. Character Guidelines:

[1]To create a character from the books, you must have the administration’s approval.
At Hogwarts Realm, the main focus will not be on canon characters, that is, characters from the books. There will be a list of characters from the book that are available for you to RP. However, you must remember that they will only play a small part.
[2characters will be completely human unless approved by the administration.
Unless a canon character, all characters will be completely human. You may choose your own bloodline (muggle-born, full-blood, or half-blood) but you may not be half-giant, part-squib, etc.)
[3]Unless approved by the administration, no special powers are to be assumed.
We are trying to keep this a realistic RP, and unless the administration approves it, there will be no special powers!
    [4]Please make your characters realistic.
When creating and writing your characters, please keep them as realistic as possible. We don’t want any students who are “the smartest,” or “the prettiest.” We don’t want any characters who never mess up and who everybody falls in love with. Please try to think of the real world when you write your characters. Students:

[1]In order for a student to remain active, they should appear on the board at least once every week. If this is going to be a problem (for example, if you’re going to be on vacation), please let the administration know and you will be excused.
[2]Students are also allowed to created as many characters as they wish. However, if creating another student in a different house, they must not create the character to spy on the other house. The writer should remain loyal to both houses.
[3]Students of any year are allowed to participate in Quidditch. However, if the writer has multiple student characters in different houses, they may only play quid ditch in one house (for example, if someone has a Gryffindor and Ravenclaw character, they may only play Quidditch in one house).

  5. Professors and Staff:

[1]Professors are permitted to have as many additional characters as they wish, with some limitations. If the professor teachers an elective course, any student characters cannot take that elective. In addition, the writer must remember that something discussed in the staff board or in a staff meeting isn’t something the student characters will know. Finally, a writer may only have one professor character unless granted permission from the administration.
[2]Head of Houses are also permitted to create multiple characters. However, the additional student shouldn’t be created in order to spy on other houses. The writer must remain loyal to both houses, not selling out the other one by providing information.
[3]Professors and staff members should be on the board at least two times a week. If this is going to be a problem (if you’re going on a week-long vacation, for example), please let the administration know and you will be excused.

  6. House Points:

[1]The house points system allows students to be rewarded for doing good deeds and students to be punished for misbehaving. At the end of the year, the house points will be tallied and whichever house has the most will receive the House Cup, quite an honor.
[2]Any staff member (professors, head of house, secondary staff, etc.) can award or deduct house points. In addition, the head boy and head girl may deduct or award up to 50 house points at any given time if they have a good reason.
[3]You may earn house points by doing the following:
    [a]Participate in class.
[b]Help around the school (for example, find technical errors and report them).
[c]Write articles for the daily prophet!
[d]Become an active writer and participate in threads.
[e]Doing something not listed here that deserves house point awarding.
[4]You may lose house points by doing the following:
    [a]Don’t show up for class.
    [b]Act up in class.
[c]Cause trouble or break the rules.
[d]Not using correct grammar and punctuation in RP threads.
    [e]Making too many OOC posts.
    [f]Posting for others.
[g]Doing something not listed here that deserves a point deduction.

  7. Special Titles:

[1]Every year, a new Head Boy and Girl will be nominated by the students. The administration will then look at the list and decide who would make the best Head Boy and Head Girl. These two will then be responsible for setting a good example, stepping in when professors can’t, and leading the prefects.
[2]Each year, Head of Houses should start a thread in their common room. Students of that house will then be able to nominate two prefects (one boy, one girl) for their house. After that, the Head of House may decide how the prefects will be chosen. They can either leave it up to the house, or they may decide for themselves. Prefects are to set a good example and lead the house.
