Welcome to the Bohemia-Sachsen Transport Heritage Park

The idea of the Transport Heritage Park came about in the year 2000 and has been spearheaded by the Ústecká spolek pro historik autobusy ( Ustecka Bus Historic Group) with the support of several other groups and organisations who have come together with the common aim of looking forward to the future while preserving our transport heritage past.

The support of the town of Chabarovice has been vital in securing the site at Zaluzany, a former state coal mining maintenance facility which is a 11.85 hectares (30 acres) secure fenced site with an adjoining green field site of 45 hectares ( 112 acres) for further developement in the future.

The site is well located being less than seven minutes from two junctions on the new D8 Autobahn currently under construction and due to open linking Berlin with Prague , Bratislava and Budapest by 2007. It is also  a few minutes from the main Teplice – Ustí nad Labem highway and less than 15 minutes from the exisiting E55 Dresden – Teplice – Prague autoroute to the west.

The site is  on the edge of the Chabarovice Lake and Recreation area,  2750 hectares featuring a 800ha. fresh water lake and recultivation area of former coal mine workings which is due for completion in 2008. Our own plans for the next four years include the following .........

  • The opening of a new exhibition hall to better display the collection of buses.
  • Workshops.
  • A working narrow gauge industrial railway line currently under construction.
  • The developement of existing buildings to house a small exhibition area , cafe and souvenir shop , the existing working model railway and a club rooms and library.
  • The establishment of a working trolleybus demonstration line.
  • The reconstruction on site of various railway buildings typical of North Bohemia.
  • The re.opening of the railway spur to the former Chabarovice Station (buildings now demolished).

Currently the groups involved with the Transport Heritage Park project have over thirty-five buses, trucks and trolleybuses in their collection and this figure includes vehicles from not only the Czech Republic, but also Germany (DDR), Hungary, Switzerland, and Great Britain. We have currently five operating English double decker buses at our disposal and have a special licence to use these in passenger carrying duties inside the Czech Republic on special occasions.

We welcome new members to join this exciting project and we also welcome information on any old vehicles from the humble stationary oil engine to old cars, buses , trolleybuses, and even old tramcars or railway vehicles which might be unwanted in a barn or orchard and which could provide the basis of a future exhibit or a source of valuable spare parts.

We are also interested to hear from potential partners and business sponsors who can help us move this project forward in any way.
