China was the foal i had gone to buy at the 2006 Royal Welsh Cob Sales. She was described as being a 'dark cream' which meant she would probably produce diluted foals. She was due to be sold on the last day of the sale and the idea was to stay for her and then head off home, we looked around the stables and kept returning to the stable she was meant to be in and finally she arrived with her half brother and her full brother. her full brother wasn't very big and was rather on the chubby side but had good conformation. He was a pale palomino. When we came across china, she turned out to be a grey foal but with a brown tinge to her coat, the owners were sure she was going to turn into a browny cream colour and we were sure she was going to either be a roan or a grey. she was very pretty, out of a section D by a section A. she was petite but with good conformation and she seemed to have been well handled. We asked in which month she had been born so we could do an age height comparison and the owner said June and that for that reason they had called her June. (she had actually been born in May, one reason for changing her name!) She went through the ring and we bid for her but somebody else wanted her nearly as much as we did so in the end I paid rather more than I should have done but i think she will be worth it in the long run. She went to her first show towards the end of February and came 5th in her class of yearling section Cs, we were very pleased, she was very well behaved and seemed to enjoy herself.
