OAKWELLYN WELSH PONIES OF COB TYPE

Ben

Ben has been with us for about fifteen years now, we got him as a five year old. My mum used to teach his old owner. Ben was a very talented horse but really new how to be naughty, if he wasnt lunged before he was ridden he was absolutely impossible to do anything with. Ben is a welsh cob X thoroughbred, we believe his previous owner bought him through the cob sales. Ben lost his eye in an accident when he was eight and unfortunatly his career was cut short. It was a great shame because Ben could easily have gone on to be a top show jumper, but his lack of concentration meant it was not safe to continue competing him. Instead he stayed at home and taught me how to ride and jump. Ben retired at seventeen due to the sight fading in his other eye and since then Ben has baby sat for all the younger horses, teaching them manners and also teaching them how to be naughty! Ben will be here for the rest of his life, hopefully a good many more years, looking after the youngsters.
