Sultans originally come from Turkey, where according to tradition,
used to live in the sultan's castle gardens in what was then called Constanditinople .
Sultans are full feathered , and the neck has profuse plumage , they also have large round crests,
they also have a V-shaped comb (horn comb) ,
which in the hen is almost completely buried within the crest.
Sultans also have beautiful beards in stead of wattles .
Thier legs are slate blue although completely covered in feathers , and they also should have 5 toes instead of the normal 4.
Sultans come in only one colour, white .
Sultans are a rare breed and are not encountered oftern,
Sultans are calm friendly birds and the hens lay reasonably well and have pale shells ,
there are not many breeders of these vigorous chickens even though they have a pleasent placid nature .
My first sultan was a cockerel who i named Stompy due to his funny walk , i have really fallen for Stompy and now have some hens for him and hope to breed as many as i can this season ,
he has a lovely nature and follows me around and sometimes gets under my feet , but i dont mind ,
i hope to be adding a few pictures of stompy and his wives in the near future
